"But to me, you are very clean."
Li Han frowned, looking at her intently: "I don't ask you to forget the past, or deliberately abandon it, because your past experiences have shaped who you are today, and I like who you are now. I like everything about you."
"You don't need to rush to deny yourself. I like your appearance, but I like your soul even more. It's not dirty. To me, it's my perfect match and my cure."
Zhang Xin frowned: "Antidote?"
"Mmm." Li Han wanted to take her hand, but in the end he was afraid of being too forward, so he suppressed his impulse and looked at her and said word by word, "I am poisoned by lovesickness, and only you can cure me."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Xin's face flushed red.
She dared not look into his eyes, for the burning intensity in them made her feel as if she were being set ablaze.
She tilted her head: "You... did you learn these cheesy pickup lines from Sister Chi or from your brother-in-law?"
The topic changed so quickly that Li Han didn't react for a moment. But when he saw her blushing face, his anxious and restless heart was suddenly calmed down.
She wasn't unintentional towards herself.
Li Han suppressed the urge to smile and said softly, "This is not something I need to learn from anyone; it comes from the bottom of my heart."
Zhang Xin pursed her lips and muttered, "Glib talker."
Her voice was low, but Li Han still heard it, and the corners of his lips, which he had been trying to suppress, lifted slightly again.
Zhang Xin's reaction gave him great encouragement and confidence.
He asked seriously again, "When I come back, will you be my girlfriend? We don't have to be like Zhuo Fang and Xu Fan, or like Chun Li and Liu Daniu. We can take it slow."
Zhang Xin remained silent for a long time, so long that Li Han couldn't help but feel uneasy again, and finally nodded slightly.
Seeing her nod, Li Han excitedly grabbed her hand, his eyes, brows, and lips filled with a deep smile. His voice trembled with excitement as he said, "I...I'm so happy, Zhang Xin, I'm so happy!"
Zhang Xin's hand was a little sore from his grip, so she gave him a reproachful look and pulled her hand away.
This glance, however, was captivating to Li Han.
He felt he must have caught Liu Daniu's influence, otherwise why would he be smiling like a fool?
Looking at his expression, Zhang Xin smiled slightly: "Alright, go back now. You have to leave early tomorrow morning."
At this point, Li Han's brain had stopped working; he just nodded and said "okay" to whatever Zhang Xin said.
Li Han escorted Zhang Xin back downstairs, his eyes still lingering on her.
Standing on the steps, Zhang Xin looked at him, her face flushed slightly, and she whispered, "I'll wait for you to come back."
He quickly turned around, went inside, and closed the door.
Zhang Xin leaned against the door, took a deep breath to calm herself down, and then started walking upstairs.
In the second-floor corridor, Chunli, Chixia, and Ranzhu were all looking at her with smiles on their faces.
Meeting their teasing gazes, Zhang Xin felt a little embarrassed and shy.
Just as Chunli was about to say something, Chi Xia nudged her with her elbow: "Alright, it's getting late, go back to sleep."
Chunli raised an eyebrow at Zhang Xin, then smiled and stretched: "Oh, I'm so sleepy, I'm going to sleep now."
Watching them go back to their rooms and close the doors, Zhang Xin patted her face before heading towards her own room.
Li Han's smile never faded. He didn't leave, but stood quietly outside until the lights in the second-floor room came on, before turning around and going back to his own house.
