Chun-Li smiled, clearly genuinely happy.
Zhang Xin looked up at her, saw the smile on her lips, and said softly, "I'm still different from you."
"Nothing is different."
Chunli said seriously, "Your past is just the past. If nothing unexpected happens, a person can live for several decades. You can't bury the rest of your life just because you took a few wrong turns. Besides, I don't think you made any big mistakes. You didn't kill anyone or commit arson. Why can't you let go of the past and live a good life?"
"Besides, Li Han doesn't mind, so why are you so bothered? This is the apocalypse. We don't even know if we'll live to see tomorrow. Shouldn't we enjoy life and cherish the present moment?"
Chunli finished picking the vegetables, dusted herself off, stood up and said to Zhang Xin, "Really, Sister Zhang, you're very good. You're even better in Li Han's eyes. Before you reject him, shouldn't you give him and yourself a chance? Even if you were to reject him, you should at least give him a reason."
“You have no idea how good he was when he was out a few days ago. He was all smiles and smugness. But look at him now. While you are torturing yourself, you are torturing him even more.”
After saying this, she picked up the dishes in front of her, smiled at Zhang Xin, and said, "I'm going to wash the vegetables. Don't let yourself regret it. Have a good talk with Brother Li."
Zhang Xin didn't speak, but only a small piece of the dish remained in her hand.
She sat there for a long time before she came to her senses, threw the discarded vegetable aside, and picked up a new one to pick.
After the meal, a campfire was lit, and everyone sat around it, chatting casually.
Zhang Xin remained silent, simply watching the flickering flames before her.
Liu Daniu was riding high these days, and he couldn't stop talking about Chunli. He would try to flatter her no matter what. Chunli glared at him several times, but he was completely oblivious.
Chun-Li finally lost her temper and said, "Shut up."
He then obediently shut his mouth, and even gave Chun-Li a pitiful look, which drew laughter from everyone.
Zhang Xin didn't laugh. Even though she kept looking at the campfire, she knew that Li Han's gaze would occasionally fall on her.
She was thinking about Chunli's words, about how happy Li Han was that day.
She knew how happy he was; she could clearly see it from his excited return and his overwhelming emotions when he left.
Zhang Xin didn't think that her situation with Li Han was the same as Chunli's situation with Liu Daniu, but she felt that Chunli was right about something: even if she wanted to reject him, she should have a proper talk with him and give him an explanation.
That's settled then.
Zhang Xin made a decision: when she returned from the Nine Lives Base, she would have a proper talk with him.
After three days of driving, they arrived at the entrance of the Nine Lives base. Han Junche introduced himself and was respectfully ushered inside by the people of Nine Lives.
Nine Lives Base is the closest to Starfire Base. Since the establishment of Starfire Base, Nine Lives Base has lost many talented people.
The person in charge of the Nine Lives Base, who was also their leader, was both wary of Han Junche and his group's strength and dissatisfied with them, making the negotiations very difficult.
They talked back and forth for two or three days, but still couldn't reach an agreement.
Han Junche was getting impatient, and his face grew colder by the day. Qin Zhao said calmly, "These people are just asking for trouble. You wait, I guarantee they'll be begging to join our alliance tomorrow."
Han Junche frowned: "You have a good idea?"
Qin Zhao smiled coldly and said four words: "Zombie siege."
