Jerry knew she was thinking about Mengmeng.
Mengmeng is a wolf after all, and it's not suitable to keep her around as a pet. Even if she doesn't mind, she still has to consider the lives of the people around her and Mengmeng.
But she couldn't bear to release Mengmeng back into the wild; keeping her in his space meant she could at least catch a glimpse of her occasionally.
This is the best arrangement.
Jerry comforted Chi Xia, saying, "In a few days, when the little ones are a bit older, I can bring Mengmeng and the little ones out to see you."
Chi Xia was still a little regretful that she couldn't be there for Mengmeng during childbirth. She sighed and said, "That's all we can do. Send me the video; I want to keep it and watch it slowly."
Jerry nodded, sent the video to Chi Xia, and also sent a copy to Qin Zhao.
After the transfer was complete, he put away his phone and said to Chi Xia, "I'll go back to my space to stay with her and get some milk for Mengmeng. She just gave birth and needs to replenish her fluids and nutrients."
Upon hearing this, Chi Xia quickly said, "You should go now."
Jerry nodded, and just as he was about to leave, his phone rang. It was Qin Zhao calling.
Jerry waved his phone in front of Chi Xia. After seeing the caller ID, Chi Xia smiled and said, "Answer it, put it on speakerphone. I want to see what this cheap in-law has to say."
Jerry immediately answered the phone as instructed by Chi Xia and put it on speakerphone.
As soon as the call connected, Qin Zhao's voice rang out: "Where are my grandsons? Are they all healthy? Are there any defects? Why are they all red-haired? Where did my Qin family's gray-haired ones go? I checked, there are six in total? Is Mengmeng's milk enough? Don't let my grandsons go hungry!"
He rattled off a whole bunch of questions like a machine gun, leaving Jerry completely bewildered and unsure where to begin answering him.
Getting no answer, Qin Zhao grew anxious: "Jerry, are you there? Give me an answer!"
Jerry snapped out of his daze, sorted out his question, and said, "They are all in good health, mother and babies are safe and sound, no defects. The red hair is a dominant gene, the gray hair is not. There are six in total. There is enough milk for now, they are not hungry."
After answering Qin Zhao's questions in one breath, Jerry took a deep breath and asked, "Anything else you want to ask?"
Qin Zhao was stunned by his series of answers. He couldn't figure out which answer was which, but in short, everything was fine.
But he was still somewhat dissatisfied: "Why haven't I seen a single gray-haired dog in my Qin family? Aren't gray-haired dogs good-looking?"
Hearing his complaints, Chi Xia couldn't help but laugh and said, "You should be grateful to have grandchildren. Other fathers-in-law get rewards when their daughters-in-law give birth. What about yours?"
Hearing Chi Xia's voice, Qin Zhao scoffed. He stood up and went to the window, looking at the lights in the darkness. He snorted and said, "I've already sold myself to you, what reward do you want? You should be more decent, you know? If you want a reward, ask that vampire Han Junche."
"Besides, there wasn't even a single gray hair. I'm already being lenient by not asking you and that vampire Han Junche for compensation for emotional distress."
"Heh." Chi Xia scoffed, "Let me tell you, if you don't prepare the proper etiquette for being a father-in-law, you won't get to see your grandchildren!"
"What father-in-law, father-in-law?" Qin Zhao snorted. "I'm fully functional."
After saying this, he realized that it was inappropriate to say this to Chi Xia, so he changed the subject and said, "Let's set a date and have Jerry bring Mengmeng, Xiaohui, and my grandchildren out so we can have a get-together at your place. Your place is big enough for them to play in."
Chi Xia nodded: "Sure, whenever you're free."
