Chapter 16 Magical Cards

Zhou Xinya was isolated.

She cherished the floral dress her great-grandmother made for her. She finally managed to wear it out and wanted to join the children downstairs, but as soon as they saw her from afar, they would laugh and avoid her, refusing to play with her.

She didn't understand why.

Then she saw a group of children leading a security guard toward her. The chubby girl in the lead pointed at her and shouted, "That's her! The garbage collector ran in here! Get her out of here!"

The chubby girl Zhenzhen lives in their building, and they've bumped into each other several times on the stairs! How can you say she's a garbage collector?

Zhenzhen wouldn't play with her and wouldn't let anyone else play with her either. If anyone talked to her, they wouldn't get a lollipop.

"Fine, I won't play then." Zhou Xinya's face showed a stubborn expression. "Anyway, I don't need friends."

Upon hearing the reason, Sun Lifang became furious. She hadn't been this angry even when she was being scolded earlier. After taking a breath, she was about to say something when the doctor called out, "Next, Zhou Dahai."

Sun Lifang quickly pushed the wheelchair inside.

The doctor in the white coat, wearing glasses, squatted down to examine Zhou Dahai's leg, and after a while, shook his head.

His serious expression made Sun Lifang nervous as well. "Doctor, how is he?"

"Why are you only arriving now?" The doctor glanced at Sun Lifang's attire and the pretty little girl with braids next to her; they clearly came from a well-off family.

Meeting the doctor's gaze, Zhou Xinya answered first: "Grandpa just came from our hometown, and Mom brought him here as soon as she had time."

The doctor coughed, realizing he had misunderstood, and smiled: "It's a bit of a delay, but once the cast is changed, remember to take good care of it and pay attention to hygiene when you get home, it should be fine."

When is your next follow-up appointment?

Afraid of forgetting, Sun Lifang put a small notebook in her suit pocket before leaving home, taking notes as she listened. "Okay, I understand, I'll pay attention."

The doctor could tell from Sun Lifang's actions that she was kind-hearted and willing to put in the effort. He looked at Zhou Dahai, who was peeking out from behind the curtain of the medical bed, and said to Sun Lifang, "Don't worry, it will take time for him to recover at his age. Anyway, you have the means, so just let him take his time."

When Zhou Dahai came out and heard what the doctor said, he looked at Sun Lifang with some unease.

Try to minimize your presence.

Upon hearing this, Sun Lifang realized that the inflammation and swelling were due to inadequate care and occurred along the way. Knowing it wasn't a serious problem, she felt somewhat relieved.

The pharmacy had prescribed saline solution for cleaning, and a large pile of various pills were wrapped in white plastic bags.

Zhou Xinya saw her mother use that magic card again, and with a "beep," she could take away a large bag of things.

Amazing! Cities are wonderful!

She now firmly believes this, and occasionally steals a glance at the card, then secretly chuckles to herself after looking at it.

Seeing this, Sun Lifang simply handed the card to her, letting her hold it and look at it however she wanted.

Zhou Xinya skipped and hopped all the way, and even her fear of facing the doctor had largely dissipated.

The specialist appointment that Sun Lifang booked for her daughter was with an elderly professor. His hair was gray, but his eyes were still bright and alert, giving people the first impression of wisdom.

The female professor adjusted Zhou Xinya's chair height and asked her face-to-face, "Do you know why you are nearsighted?"

Zhou Xinya glanced at her mother with a vague look in her eyes and shook her head.

“Then let’s change the question,” the female professor asked again, “When did your vision start to blur?”

Zhou Xinya answered the question quickly, while Sun Lifang was led to a small room next door by her assistant.

The professor measured his daughter's pupillary distance and prescribed glasses.

Her voice was cheerful, making Zhou Xinya giggle from time to time. Then she said to Zhou Xinya, "Knowing why we become nearsighted is important to protecting our eyes. Mom isn't here now, so tell Grandma why we become nearsighted?"

Zhou Xinya now trusted the professor completely.

Then, caught off guard, Sun Lifang heard the reason.

Zhou Xinya said she wanted to watch TV, even though it was a TV her mother bought, but her grandparents wouldn't let her watch it.

During the day, they made her do chores, saying she could watch TV after she finished. But when she came back, the TV was surrounded by her uncle and aunt's family. They broke their promise!

She'll peek even if I tell her not to! That was bought by Mom for her great-grandmother, why should they take it all?

Finally finding a quiet time, she got up early and, to avoid making any noise, stood close to the TV. This way, the volume was so low that only she could hear it, and she wouldn't be noticed.

Later, I became nearsighted and couldn't see things clearly.

Sun Lifang was so angry in the next room that her hands were shaking.

Making five- or six-year-old children glean wheat under the scorching sun? They have no shame! The "great-grandmother" Zhou Xinya mentioned is Sun Lifang's grandmother. The TV Zhou Xinya bought for her grandmother was stolen; one can only imagine what happened to the clothes and nutritional supplements Zhou Xinya sent her.

It's not like they didn't give her money. The money she sent back could have built a house in her hometown. Is this how they treat their daughter?

Over here, Zhou Xinya came out wearing pinkish-purple children's glasses, with a prescription of over 100 degrees in both eyes. The glasses also came with a string so she could hang them around her neck.

"If she does more outdoor exercise, there's still hope for her eyes." The professor smiled as he saw them to the door, and said to Zhou Xinya, "Listen to your mother, she loves you."

Zhou Xinya's eyes widened, and she winked at the professor in surprise.

That look seemed to be saying, "No, no, don't tell on me!"

The professor just smiled and didn't say anything more.

"Thank you, doctor. Besides exercise, are there any other care methods?"

Sun Lifang mentioned it briefly, recalling that a friend had later told her about femtosecond laser surgery.
