Chapter 2: Mom Doesn't Want You Anymore After You Have a Younger Brother

Six-year-old Zhou Xinya arranged the shoes in the entryway one by one, then started wiping the floor with a rag, clearly assigning herself the task.

Who would have thought that such an obedient child would grow up to end up in a juvenile detention center?

“Xiaoya—” Sun Lifang suddenly called her.

"ah?"

Zhou Xinya's straight back suddenly shuddered. She quickly glanced up at her before lowering her head again, staring at her toes. Every move she made showed her "obedience".

As long as she behaves well, her mother will love her even more.

Sun Lifang felt a pang of sadness, her throat tightened, and she couldn't distinguish between the past and the present, which was a dream.

She sat on the sofa and waved to Zhou Xinya.

"Let's go out for lunch, and then go to the company." She cleared her throat and asked Zhou Xinya, "How about we eat at the restaurant you wanted to go to last time?"

"Hmm?" Zhou Xinya looked at her curiously; her mother seemed a little different today.

Sun Lifang had expected her daughter's reaction. She patted her daughter's shoulder and said, "Hurry up and get ready, or I won't wait for you."

She opened the drawer, took out the access card, and suddenly a small head popped in from underneath.

Zhou Xinya's eyes widened as she asked, "Is it a reward for getting a perfect score on the test?" Her mother used to never allow her to eat strongly flavored food at home, saying that strong flavors pollute the air.

Sun Lifang understood that Zhou Xinya was rebellious at heart; the more you forbade her to do something, the more she would do it.

She shook her head with a smile: "No."

My daughter's big eyes darted around.

Sun Lifang squatted down to look her in the eye and rubbed her head. "Mom isn't trying to reward you. It's because I love you. Everything I do is out of love, not because you did well on the test."

"oh."

Zhou Xinya nodded as if she understood, let go of her hand, and calmly walked to the door to wait for her.

—His acting was a bit lacking.

Zhou Xinya was a shrewd person from a young age, with an exceptional ability to read people's expressions and act in a way that adults liked.

Outsiders praise her for being excellent in both character and academics, virtuous and elegant, confident and generous; all the best words can be used to describe her.

Zhou Xinya had just come from the countryside and was going to enroll in first grade in September. There was still time; everything was just beginning. Sun Lifang silently recited this in her heart, looking for her own reflection in her daughter's clear, bright eyes.

Twenty-seven-year-old Sun Lifang has long, glossy black hair that reaches her waist. She holds it up in a bun with pearl clips, making her radiant.

Zhou Xinya stood awkwardly at the door, taking out a small card from her pocket. It was a pinyin card that Teacher Lin had specially brought for her.

Hearing footsteps, she immediately went to meet them and asked in a low voice, "May I carry your bag?"

The daughter carefully held the bag, being well-behaved and sensible.

Sun Lifang had a headache. In her previous life, after her daughter went to boarding school, the mother and daughter had almost no communication. She thought of Zhou Xinya's cold face in her previous life, which was completely different from the thin girl in front of her.

Or perhaps she hasn't adjusted yet, and those soft words she just said were already the maximum she could manage.

Besides, she wasn't good at using romantic gestures. Everyone loves their own child, and she brought her daughter from the countryside to provide her with the best possible environment.

How did it turn out like that?

Sun Lifang turned to the side to think, her confidence in winning halved.

The elevator doors slowly closed, and suddenly someone squeezed in. The person inside cursed and pushed forward.

Zhou Xinya, who was standing by the door, was pushed halfway out of control.

Standing behind, Sun Lifang could only hear her daughter screaming.

Zhou Xinya's hair got tangled, and she tried to pull it out by walking towards the door, tilting her head and reaching out to pull it.

At that time, the elevator was not yet equipped with intelligent sensors. Sun Lifang only heard the piercing alarm of the overload warning. Her gaze moved down and the elevator door seemed like a sharp knife, slowly closing in.

"Xinya!" She rushed over and grabbed the door.

"Make way, make way!" Sun Lifang's voice was sharp as a silk thread and trembled like a string.

With a flick of her wrist, an inconspicuous white watch appeared. As if knowing her thoughts, the elevator doors opened normally, and Sun Lifang held her daughter protectively in her arms.

The regulations told her that her personal safety would be protected if the task involved a life-threatening situation before it was assigned.

If it weren't for system protection—

Sun Lifang shivered, as if she had been stuffed into a cold storage room on a sweltering summer day; her palms were cold and white.

If history repeats itself, what is the significance of her rebirth?

"What are you looking at! What's so interesting!"

Sun Lifang escorted her daughter to the stairwell and sat down.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, Mommy's here." She softened her voice, her daughter trembling in her arms. Sun Lifang magically produced a chocolate from her pocket. "Want some?"

This was originally prepared at home in case she had low blood sugar during pregnancy, but we never expected it to come in handy now.

Zhou Xinya seemed stunned and it took her a while to recover.

The sweet, silky texture spread in her mouth. The mother and daughter shared a piece of chocolate. After she finished eating, the daughter even took out a handkerchief to wipe her mouth.

Someone came up the stairs, and Sun Lifang quickly pulled her up, and the two walked hand in hand down the stairs.

"Mom, slow down, watch out for your little brother."

After whispering a reminder, Zhou Xinya withdrew her hand and resumed her reserved demeanor.

“It might not be a younger brother; what if it’s a younger sister?” Sun Lifang smiled slightly and continued, “Mom doesn’t want to talk about him right now.”

Zhou Xinya was confused and couldn't understand.

Her maternal grandparents back home told her not to upset her mother and to take good care of her.

Even Ms. Lin, who had the best relationship with her mother, said that after her younger brother was born, her mother no longer wanted her.

It's something that's clearly very important, so why is Mom saying she doesn't want to talk about it now?

But she would never ask that!

Sun Lifang glanced at her out of the corner of her eye, pinched her little cheek, and said, "Look, being pregnant is such a hassle. You still have to take care of her after giving birth. The more you think about it, the more tired you feel, don't you think?"
