"Who said I committed suicide?" Kong Xiang blurted out, only to realize something was wrong after she finished speaking.
Provoked by Sun Lifang, she gave herself away and looked at her husband, her eyes flashing.
Upon seeing this, Lu Hua felt as if an ice hole had been smashed into his heart, sending chills down his spine.
"I'm sorry," Kong Xiang confessed honestly. "I had to cook dinner when I got home, and I was preoccupied with something, so I didn't pay attention and cut my hand. The bleeding wouldn't stop, so I came to the hospital."
Kong Xiang sobbed, "My life is so miserable. I still have to take care of the kids and cook when I get home. If I were as successful as you, with a nanny at home and no worries about meals, and someone to take care of the kids, I wouldn't have had to cut off my hand. Sister Hua, tell me, when will this miserable life of mine ever end?"
"Don't say that." Kong Xiang's husband was an honest and kind man. He had contacted Lu Hua in a moment of panic, thinking she was going to commit suicide. He apologized repeatedly, "I'm sorry, please don't take her words to heart."
The story goes that Kong Xiang's husband wanted to become a good doctor, accumulating clinical experience while studying for a doctorate, so that he could provide a good life for his family in the future.
Kong Xiang is a strong-willed woman who can't stand seeing others better than herself. She hopes her husband can surpass others and keeps nagging him to start his own business.
Although he had apologized on the phone before, Kong Xiang's man still apologized to Lu Hua very politely and gave a brief account of their past.
"Did I say something wrong?" Kong Xiang said indignantly, "If I weren't cooking for the kids, would I have been attacked? If your salary weren't so low, would we be unable to afford a nanny and be laughed at like this?"
The man's submissive attitude was jarring to Sun Lifang. She would usually be in bed by now, but she had to deal with this oddball.
Sun Lifang was speechless. How could Kong Xiang blame everything on others? Is it reasonable for her to connect cooking to her husband's low salary and harbor so much resentment?
Just as she was about to say something, she heard Lu Hua's extremely cold voice: "Xiangxiang, you're actually blaming me, aren't you?"
"From your injury to your husband's salary, and then to your rambling about hopelessness, isn't all of this just because I didn't guarantee you a job? Why don't you just say that you hurt your hand today and that's my fault too?"
"No," Kong Xiang argued. "I was just lamenting my bad luck, you wouldn't understand anyway."
Lu Hua chuckled, her eyes clear and insightful: "You still say there's no comparison? You always compare yourself to others. Let's be frank, you borrowed five thousand from me back then and I'm returning fifty thousand to you. It's normal to reciprocate, not that you're holding a grudge and want me to vouch for you. How can we be sisters if you have a knot in your heart?"
"Sisters?" Kong Xiang sniffed, her voice clear and bright. "Don't let people laugh at us, I don't believe it."
"Hahahahaha." Lu Hua laughed, but his eyes were crying. "Xiangxiang, let me make this clear to you. I remember all the good things you've done for me, and I've been repaying them all these years. I also remember the favors you've shown me. You can come to me for help anytime. I just hope that one day you can come to your senses."
"Where did the cheerful and witty girl from before go?" Lu Hua roared at Kong Xiang's cold gaze, "You keep saying I don't care about you, but have you ever put yourself in my shoes and thought about me?"
"For your bullshit entrepreneurial dream! You're willing to gamble my entire future, Kong Xiang! You're so selfish!"
"Oh, right." Lu Hua's face was covered in tears. "I went to see the shop you mentioned this afternoon. I even got the price. I was thinking of buying it for you."
Kong Xiang looked up in surprise, only to hear Lu Hua say indifferently, "Now I've changed my mind. You, Kong Xiang, are full of negative energy, harbor resentment, and don't understand the rules of the market economy. Giving you money is no different from throwing money down the drain."
"Besides, I could never agree to a guarantee! You're putting your friend in such a dangerous position just to get a bite of meat? We're both almost forty, are we still that naive?"
Tonight, Lu Hua was shocked by Kong Xiang's "victim" remarks. She had sincerely taken care of everything for her, but Kong Xiang was never satisfied.
If we were to give her money to open a shop this time, and if she were to succeed in her business by chance, Kong Xiang would probably still feel that she hadn't given up everything and hadn't earned more.
If she fails, she will blame others, blame Lu Hua for not protecting her and letting her reach the top directly, blame this and that, but she will never blame herself.
Kong Xiangqing is completely innocent and has done nothing wrong.
"Get out! Get out!" Kong Xiang pointed her other intact finger at the door. "I don't have a sister like you!"
Lu Hua smiled; she hadn't expected things to escalate to this point.
Despite all that was said, Kong Xiang still wouldn't listen and remained in her own world. The help Kong Xiang wanted was something she couldn't provide!
Lu Hua didn't speak. She just looked at that familiar face one last time before her gaze returned to the injured hand.
If Sun Lifang hadn't been provoked, would she have revealed the truth?
The answer no longer mattered. Lu Hua staggered to the door and said in a voice only one person could hear, "Then let's call it a day."
I don't know who he was saying it to.
Sun Lifang followed behind Lu Hua, who seemed lost in thought the whole way.
“You two are fundamentally different,” Sun Lifang said, following behind. “Think carefully, what do you have in common?”
"It's just that you spent a lot of time together, and you were going through a lot of hardship back then. Even if you hadn't broken off your friendship today, it wouldn't have lasted."
Sun Lifang was telling the truth.
In the images displayed on the 【Zhiyuan】APP, the elderly Lu Hua has lost her family and is left with only a stray dog to keep her company as she spends her remaining years.
Where did her best friend go?
"Thank you." Lu Hua's knot was untied, and he solemnly thanked Sun Lifang: "Although I don't know why you helped me, thank you."
