Chapter 24 What is the appropriate measure?

The banquet arrived as scheduled. Sun Lifang got up early and dressed up carefully. Jiang Meimei and Zhou Xinya escorted her downstairs, and Li Zhi came down and opened the car door.

"Hello, boss lady." In his haste, Li Zhi only managed to exchange a quick glance with his wife before not having a chance to say hello.

Sun Lifang nodded, looked at the people in the rearview mirror, and waved for them to go back.

"How's Meimei doing?" Li Zhi asked cautiously in the car.

"good."

Sun Lifang leaned back in her chair, her eyes half-closed. She had accidentally stayed up late again yesterday.

Li Zhi was both worried and secretly looking forward to it. His wife, Jiang Meimei, was someone Zhou Yunshi had asked for, and he couldn't refuse. His boss had many capable assistants around him, and he couldn't compare to them in terms of education or family background.

The only thing that can overcome this bond is the camaraderie of fellow townsmen.

“She’s usually clumsy at work. If she makes a mistake, and you’re too embarrassed to tell her, she’ll just call me.”

Suddenly, an excited voice rang in my ears.

“Li Zhi.” Sun Lifang frowned slightly; she gets carsick and usually sits in the passenger seat when traveling by car.

The person speaking clearly didn't notice Sun Lifang's expression and continued their discussion at length.

“She’s clumsy at home. She can’t wash clothes properly, and her cooking is terrible. Even the children love their grandma more.”

The man's tone was undisguised contempt as he said, "There's no need to give her face. Point out any problems you have, and we'll work together to urge her to improve."

"What else can she do? She can't even find a job." Li Zhi suddenly changed the subject, "By the way, did she ask you for this job herself?"

"I'm useless at everything, please bear with me."

A look of displeasure flashed across Sun Lifang's face. "That's not true. Don't make wild guesses."

"Okay." Li Zhi's attempt to get closer to her failed, so he chuckled awkwardly and continued driving.

After driving for a while, the destination was a private villa, and Sun Lifang felt a little drowsy.

"Boss lady." Li Zhi smiled.

"What is it?" Sun Lifang rolled down the car window, sounding somewhat annoyed. "Can you call me when we arrive?"

"Um..." Li Zhi hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped himself.

"explain."

Sun Lifang can't stand people telling only half the story.

After a pause, Li Zhicai asked, "Have you prepared the gift for our partner?" He glanced sideways at the plain packaging and asked with some concern, "Could I take a look?"

“Okay.” Sun Lifang didn’t bother to argue.

After saying that, she opened the box.

Inside, a white velvet cloth was laid out, upon which lay a silk scarf. The scarf was plain in color and had no tag. In Li Zhi's eyes, it was clearly not a high-end item.

“The boss’s wife usually dresses very elegantly, so isn’t it inappropriate to give her this?” Li Zhi frowned as he thought of Mrs. Li’s luxurious and brightly colored cheongsam suits.

“I designed this myself.” Sun Lifang looked at the scarf with satisfaction. “I personally selected the materials and cut the fabric.”

“This…” Li Zhi frowned so deeply it could trap a fly, and said, “This is a very important partner. Mrs. Li studied abroad and returned home. I heard she likes to open gifts in person. If you prepare this counterfeit product, President Zhou will be in a very awkward situation.”

"Alright." Sun Lifang hadn't even given out the gift yet when she was met with this discussion. She paused for a moment and said, "I know how to behave."

What's the point?

Li Zhi was in a bind. Although he had never eaten pork while following Zhou Yunshi, he had seen pigs run. Those big bosses were very materialistic, and if you were to give a gift, you had to give something that people could see its value.

This will only make people laugh.

Li Zhi turned his head and looked at the proprietress's indifferent expression, unable to utter a word.

Oh well, the boss has prepared other gifts anyway. He can help deliver the scarf, and then we can secretly move it. That way, no one will know, and we'll save face.

Boss Zhou Yunshi is a business genius. Even though they are from the same place, Li Zhi admires him from the bottom of his heart after witnessing his methods.

However, Li Zhi glanced at the proprietress and then sighed.

He and his boss are in the same boat.

Other wives either have their own careers or can help their husbands' businesses. It's a pity to encounter a wife like theirs who can't do anything, is embarrassing to be seen with, and has even given birth to a child. In this situation, they can only accept their fate.

"Who is this? The man next to him looks like Mr. Zhou's driver, could he be Mrs. Zhou?"

"Mrs. Zhou? That woman who came from the county and is now working as a clerk?"

"Tsk tsk, why didn't President Zhou accompany her? She came by herself. President Zhou didn't even escort her in. Could it be that she insisted on coming?"

As soon as she stepped into the banquet hall, she was met with scrutinizing gazes.

Sun Lifang's expression remained unchanged, but her skin was covered with tiny, dense bumps, and that feeling of fear returned; she was afraid of social interaction.

She knows what others are saying, and this isn't the first time they've used her as fodder for self-aggrandizement.

There were full-time housewives present, but they were afraid to speak up.

In the years leading up to her serious illness and hospitalization, Sun Lifang was also that kind of person, treated like an honored guest by a wealthy lady.

Even though she was not particularly attractive and wore no jewelry, no one dared to gossip about her at the banquet hall, all thanks to Zhou Yunshi.

In front of outsiders, she is still Mrs. Zhou.

Faced with this scene again, Sun Lifang suddenly thought that in her previous life, Zhou Yunshi must have gradually changed his opinion of her amidst the gossip of others.

Even so, she refused to change, much less try to curry favor.

Let her say it; she doesn't care.

But at that moment, a commanding voice rang out, "Hey there, auntie, could you bring us some snacks?"
