Manager Guo has been quite busy lately. Feeling guilty, he inevitably trembled and his shifty eyes betrayed his emotions while staying in the hospital.
To avoid arousing suspicion, he specifically asked a friend to act as a "conversation starter" to get him out of the hospital, and he even used a very impressive excuse—
“My mother was so worried when she heard that Mengmeng had an accident that she went out in a hurry and didn’t pay attention, and she fell headfirst into a big bump.”
An elderly woman in her sixties fell and was hospitalized. Now she cries out every day that she wants to see her granddaughter.
Manager Guo showed Liu Qing a photo of his mother and softened his voice, advising, "You say I've wronged you, but my mother hasn't wronged you, has she?"
As she spoke, she handed the photo of her mother's injury to Liu Qing so she could see it.
"I'm not looking, get lost."
Liu Qing gave her a shove, utterly annoyed. "Stop this crocodile tears and fake compassion. How many times has your mother come to see Mengmeng? Stop acting, okay?"
No, even though he knows it's all an act, Manager Guo has to keep playing along.
This is one of his usual tricks—
He acted humble and coaxed gently, displaying great patience, in contrast to Liu Qing's impatient face and tendency to scold after only a few words. This made it immediately clear to others that it was Liu Qing's fault.
Everyone was fooled by him, including Liu Qing's parents, who advised their daughter, "Try to control your temper. Guo has been good to you enough. Besides him, who else can put up with your bad temper?"
At first, Liu Qing believed it and didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
But the further she went, the more she felt something was wrong.
Manager Guo is such a good actor. He had Liu Qing, who was a shy young girl when she was young, completely under the control of Manager Guo and his family.
"Nobody is born with a bad temper. Where did I get this temper from?"
It was all because they were forced into it.
Speaking of Manager Guo's family, Liu Qing felt like gouging out her own eyes. "How could I have married into their family?"
When I was young, I didn't know how to judge people. I only saw that Manager Guo was handsome and that our families were of equal social standing.
They only consider external factors, forgetting that marriage is not about finding love, but about finding a partner—a partner who is equally matched and shares the same vision.
Comparing marriage to starting a company, Liu Qing felt she was constantly losing money.
“I’ve been losing out since I got married. Pregnancy and childbirth caused someone to take away the hard work I had put in for half a year. Not only did I suffer losses in both my career and health, but my husband is also a complete shirker.”
How can people live like this if they don't even bother to pick up a fallen oil bottle?
Unable to endure it any longer, Liu Qing decided to cut her losses and filed for divorce, but her mother-in-law managed to "hold her back."
Manager Guo's mother, Cheng Fengnu, is also quite a character. "She's incredibly smooth-talking and loves to act; the whole family are drama queens."
Having sparred with Cheng Fengnu many times, Liu Qing was no longer willing to fall for her self-inflicted injury scheme.
Her words were also laced with malice: "Let her do whatever she wants. What does it have to do with me if she falls? If the law allowed it, I'd want to skin her alive with a knife."
Cheng Fengnu's specialty was feigning injury; she would either fall down and hurt herself one day, or complain of a chestache the next, crying and whining, which was extremely annoying.
"When Mengmeng was little, she wouldn't let me hire a nanny, saying she would help me take care of her, and then—"
Oh no, the whole house is filled with the sound of children crying.
The lingering sound echoed, and the weeping continued.
Speaking of Cheng Fengnu, Liu Qing felt like tearing her apart. "I can't do anything. How can I write a report or go to work while holding my crying daughter?"
The noise was so annoying that Liu Qing couldn't do anything. In the workplace, everyone had their own designated position, and if she quit, a bunch of people would be waiting to take her place.
You're writing this in a state of anxious frustration, while she's crying at your door, holding her child.
And so, they chanted, "We miss Mom, we miss Mom, Mom is making a lot of money inside, we'll wait for Mom here."
Make a damn profit!
The children's noise was making Liu Qing dizzy and disoriented; how could she possibly work?
Honestly, Liu Qing doesn't feel she has let her daughter down. "Countless days and nights of torment, clumps of hair falling out, watching helplessly as my hard-earned success was handed over to someone else because of pregnancy, childbirth, and raising the child."
Even after all this, outsiders still think that Guo Zhimeng's situation is Liu Qing's fault, that her mother didn't take good care of her, and that her mother didn't care enough.
"Where did I go wrong?" Liu Qing asked Sun Lifang. "If it were you, could you have done better than me?"
Why should Liu Qing bear all the losses when the company is run by two people?
That's unfair.
Furthermore, even though the two are already divorced, Manager Guo's family still won't let her go—
Why?
Why is that?
A little thought reveals the answer: "Now that I've made it big, why would they let me go?"
The vampire family, Cheng Fengnu did a really good job, putting on a big facade of illness and staging a self-inflicted injury, it was a piece of cake for her.
This time, with Guo Zhimeng hospitalized, there's a real opportunity to put my skills to use—
Cheng Fengnu wants to seek custody of her granddaughter from the court.
His thinking was very straightforward: Guo Zhimeng is Liu Qing's daughter. With this leverage in hand, how could he not control Liu Qing?
Women are easily moved to pity, and besides, Liu Qing is already over thirty and a tomboy.
Having learned from past mistakes, Cheng Fengnu believed that Liu Qing would not remarry.
If he never gets married, he'll only have one daughter, Guo Zhimeng.
Cheng Fengnu was completely under Liu Qing's control. "If you don't want to lose your daughter, then remarry my son and live a good life together."
Extortion is extortion, blatant extortion.
Given this situation, how could Liu Qing possibly have a pleasant expression?
"If the law allowed it, I could take a knife and kill them." That's what she thought in her heart, but in reality, Liu Qing couldn't do anything to them. Because of her daughter, she couldn't really do that.
