Chapter 34: The Show-Off Went Wrong

Mrs. Tong had stuck her head out several times, only to be pulled back by Tong Guichun.

"What are you looking at?" Tong Guichun asked in a low voice as she looked around absentmindedly, ignoring her friend. "That's very rude of you."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

Mrs. Tong tucked her hair behind her ear, apologized to the person in front of her, put down her wine glass, and walked towards the exit.

"Hello, may I get to know you?"

Mrs. Tong felt a sudden darkness before her eyes, and when she saw the person's face clearly, her heart skipped a beat.

When did Zhang Dali come to her?

"Yes...yes, that's fine." Mrs. Tong stammered as she reached out and shook hands with him.

The man's hands were small, soft, and even more delicate than hers, not at all like someone who had been in a labor camp. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, he squeezed his knuckles hard when he let go.

Thinking of his deeds, Mrs. Tong could only force a smile, glancing away out of the corner of her eye.

"I heard that my daughter had a conflict with a woman today, oh right, the one named Sun Lifang. Someone saw you having dinner with her. You two must be quite familiar with each other, right?"

Sure enough, a woman's intuition is very accurate.

Zhang Dali came for this matter. Mrs. Tong tried to explain, "You may have misunderstood. The conflict has already been resolved. What do you need her for?"

"Has it been resolved?"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Dali narrowed his small eyes, a hint of danger in them, and lit a cigarette. "Don't worry, I won't cause you any trouble. Just tell me where Sun Lifang is, and the rest is none of your business."

He looked behind the woman and said, "If you don't say anything, plenty of others will. I hate trouble the most."

When Tong Guichun saw the two meet from afar, he rushed over in a hurry. Before he could speak, Zhang Dali said, "I know what's going on. You must know something."

Zhang Dali has a baby face and speaks in a soft, feminine tone.

His voice was strange and unpleasant, and although he was thin, he appeared even more sinister and terrifying.

"I don't know," Mrs. Tong said with a forced smile, then looked at Tong Guichun, "Where's President Zhou? You men should have a good talk."

The implication is that men should resolve their own issues.

Zhang Dali clicked his tongue, threw the cigarette butt on the ground, stomped on it twice, and said impatiently, "I'm not looking for President Zhou. If you want to find someone, find Sun Lifang. She's the one who caused this trouble. Who else should I find?"

After he finished speaking, someone whispered a few words in his ear, and Zhang Dali turned his back and walked towards the exit.

"Hey!" Mrs. Tong exclaimed anxiously and chased after him, but Tong Guichun grabbed her arm.

"It's no use you going, I'll go find someone."

"What if something goes wrong?"

Mrs. Tong appeared calm, but her mind was in turmoil. She tried to control her emotions and urged Tong Guichun, "Then you go quickly, I'll go and keep watch at the door."

How did I end up in this mess? Mrs. Tong took a breath and jogged after him.

Zhang Dali seemed to attract attention as he walked towards the door, and many people followed him.

Those nearby who overheard his conversation with Mrs. Tong were buzzing with discussion.

"Sun Lifang is finished this time. Did she think Du Qiaozhi was easy to bully?"

"Zhang Dali keeps a close eye on Du Qiaozhi, picking her up and dropping her off at school every day. Everyone at her school knows that."

"But where did he get the money? He wouldn't have asked General Manager Li for it..."

"You don't know this, do you? Zhang Dali owns several mahjong parlors. Everyone knows what's going on inside, even though it's called mahjong. He doesn't play himself, so how could he be short of money?"

"After so many years in there, the world must have changed drastically by the time you come out, right?" someone scoffed. "It can't be that incredible."

"They're gangsters, they have big shots behind them. Anyway, you can see, things aren't going to end well today."

"..."

He was rich, had connections, and had a history of murder, which made the onlookers somewhat apprehensive.

Du Qiaozhi burst through the crowd and pounced on him like a little bird, "Uncle, what are you doing here?"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Dali looked at her for three seconds. Where did that crying little girl from the phone go?

It's good that she's stopped crying. During the years he was in labor camp, his sister would bring her niece to visit him on every visiting day.

Du Qiaozhi was someone he had watched grow from a chubby little girl into a beautiful young woman. She was also the only girl who didn't mind that he was a convict and would always call him "uncle" sweetly whenever they met. He would do anything for her.

When he was young, he was never afraid to fight people in the street all by himself. Now that he is old and has no children, Zhang Dali is starting to fear that no one will be there to take care of him when he dies.

Zhang Dali flicked the little girl's nose and said with a doting smile, "How did I end up here? You naughty girl."

"whee."

There weren't many people outside the courtyard. Knowing that her sister and brother-in-law wouldn't be there, Du Qiaozhi felt especially at ease. Now, no one could threaten her.

Du Qiaozhi complained that standing was too tiring, so Zhang Dali simply opened the car door and let her sit inside in the convertible.

"I'll teach her a lesson later!" Du Qiaozhi thought of Sun Lifang, her anger still burning. "Who told her to disregard me!"

Zhang Dali nodded repeatedly, agreeing with whatever his niece said.

As for Sun Lifang, give her a good scare and make the little girl happy.

"Brother~" A sweet female voice rang out, and the beautiful woman in a suspender dress who had been brought over leaned against the car, looking at Zhang Dali tenderly.

Du Qiaozhi looked over upon hearing the sound, and said with disgust, "Go away, you scared me."

"It's disgusting, it gives me goosebumps." Du Qiaozhi frowned and looked at her uncle as she watched the girl, who was not much older than her, be so pretentious.

What kind of demons and monsters are you? They could be your fathers by now, call me brother.

In Du Qiaozhi's opinion, girls who marry rich men are the most filthy and disgusting. She waved her hand to drive them away, saying, "Go away, go away, your perfume smells terrible."
