Chapter 38 Foolish Woman

"She's been sleeping for two days now, she should be waking up soon," the doctor advised. "Try not to overthink things, it's not good for the pregnant woman or the fetus."

My body was exhausted, but my mind was incredibly clear.

"Mom is just too tired." Zhou Xinya hugged her doll and said with heartache, "She has to take care of Grandpa and me, and she's pregnant. Why did you still let her go to the banquet, Dad?"

Having already heard what had happened, Zhou Yunshi squatted down to be at eye level with Zhou Xinya.

The little guy scolded, "I won't trust you anymore. Everything's fine when I'm with Mom, but why does something always happen when I go out with you? It's all your fault."

"Shh." Zhou Yunshi picked up his daughter and coaxed her, "Mommy needs to sleep, and her baby needs to sleep too, so the two of them sleep for a while. Do you want to sleep for a bit too, little one?"

Zhou Xinya yawned listlessly, fiddling with the doll in her hand: "Then I want to sleep next to Mommy."

"OK."

Sun Lifang felt a small body quietly move towards her and then hug one of her arms.

"Yaya, don't touch Mommy's needle." Zhou Yunshi came over and turned the IV drip bottle around.

Zhou Xinya rolled her eyes. She was clearly holding the other arm; why was she making such a fuss?

But her mother smelled so good, warm and fragrant. Zhou Xinya sniffed twice, then pressed her face against the blanket and soon fell asleep.

Outside the ward, Zhou Yunshi turned on his phone.

A string of missed calls followed, and after I restarted my phone, another call came in.

Since Sun Lifang fainted these past two days, people have been constantly asking about her well-being. Even some unknown people from banquets have come to send her flowers. He was very surprised that his wife was so popular.

In addition, there was a phone call from his mother, not for any other reason than to ask him directly whether he had contacted Zhou Dahai.

Seemingly sensing something, he managed to divert her attention by mentioning Sun Lifang's hospitalization.

His mother asked him to take some time to accompany her to a medical check-up, as she wasn't feeling well. He also needed to help prepare performance costumes and photocopies for the senior university, things that Sun Lifang used to do with her.

Zhou Yunshi then realized that there was so much to worry about behind what seemed like a simple family life.

The moment the call connected, before it could even speak, a barrage of accusations rained down on it: "What's going on? Did you forget to schedule a tailor to take my measurements? Are you my son or is Xiao Li my son? I was planning to take care of Lifang during her baby's delivery; this was my last performance. I've told you so many times, but you never listened... Good grief, now it's all over. You're pretty smug, aren't you?"

Zhou Yunshi is a big guy; he has so many things to do, how could he possibly remember them all?
