After hanging up the phone, Sun Lifang looked up and saw that the lights on the upstairs balcony were off.
My phone has a few more missed calls.
Sun Lifang went back to the past.
"Madam, where have you been?" Jiang Meimei asked, and before anyone could reply, she continued, "Your mother-in-law just left, why aren't you back yet, it's so late?"
Chen Yan waited in vain for Sun Lifang to return, and went home cursing.
"Where's Ya Ya? Is Ya Ya asleep?"
Instead of answering, Sun Lifang asked a question: Zhou Xinya is a night owl. Recently, after the mother-daughter relationship improved, she learned to "take advantage of kindness" and act cute. If she is not allowed to watch TV, the little girl will hide in her room and read the comic book "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and become very obsessed.
It's not that we don't want her to see them; after several months of physical therapy, Zhou Xinya's eyesight has only just improved a little. Who knows what magic those comic books possess...
Sun Lifang was afraid that she would secretly comply but secretly disobey, and ruin her eyesight.
"Go to sleep, go to sleep. You have to go to dance class tomorrow. You've been dancing at home by yourself, following along with the TV for half the day." Sun Lifang enrolled her daughter in a basic dance class so she could learn the basics first, then observe and try out a few classes before choosing a major dance style.
Children's joy is impossible to hide. Before class started, the little girl put on the practice clothes that Sun Lifang bought from the [Zhiyuan] Mall in the living room, and posed in various ways in front of the mirror. She looked incredibly beautiful.
Jiang Meimei told Sun Lifang about Zhou Xinya's interesting stories in great detail.
She glanced at her watch; it was already ten o'clock. The two women were close, so Jiang Meimei didn't say anything, but they were both mothers, so how could she not miss her son?
Sun Lifang said, "Then hurry up and come down. I've called a taxi for you downstairs."
It's already past their working hours.
No matter how much Jiang Meimei refused, Sun Lifang kept urging her to come downstairs quickly.
"Hurry up!"
He prepaid the taxi driver's fare and told Jiang Meimei to call him when she got home to let him know she was safe.
After saying goodbye, Sun Lifang dragged her tired body upstairs.
My belly is getting more and more obvious now. My four-month-old belly is so big that some of my clothes can no longer fit.
The sound of the neighbor's television drifted through the crack in the stairwell door, making my own home seem even more desolate.
As soon as Sun Lifang inserted the key into the door, a woman peeked out from the neighboring door and asked in a gruff voice, "Where are you going to make your fortune, Boss Sun? Want to come over for some tea? Come in and let's have a good chat, sisters."
The neighbors were curious about how Chen Yan's last argument ended, what the future held for the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and how Sun Lifang, as the daughter-in-law, could talk about her mother-in-law, who was so fierce.
These gossips fueled the public's curiosity, who couldn't wait to find out more, then embellished and spread them a second time, turning them into a source of amusement during their leisure time.
In her past life, Sun Lifang truly believed it.
Thinking she had found a confidante, she told her about her difficulties and the secret that her mother-in-law was using her eldest son's money to help her younger brother-in-law.
The neighbor, a close confidante, vehemently criticized her mother-in-law in front of her, sharing her indignation.
So Sun Lifang, a housewife who had no friends, treated her as a friend and revealed all her secrets.
There's a saying that goes, "Don't tell the secret to the wind, because the wind will tell the whole world."
This gust of wind revealed Sun Lifang's true thoughts to all the housewives in the neighborhood. It even reached Zhou Yunshi, and Chen Yan found out, coming over to scold her for being two-faced.
Some things are sentimental to say, but it's uncomfortable to keep them bottled up in your throat. So, in her past life, Sun Lifang spoke out, but the matter wasn't resolved, and she ended up being stripped naked.
Now 28 years old, Sun Lifang is not so naive anymore. She looked at her neighbor and said, "I'm sorry, I'm very sleepy today. Let's talk again next time."
The neighbor, an older woman, closed the door and complained to her husband, "I don't know what Sun Lifang is so arrogant about? Mother and daughter are exactly the same." No wonder no one in the neighborhood wants to play with her.
Sun Lifang closed the door and changed into slippers before her mood calmed down a bit.
Everyone says it's hard for men to earn money, but isn't it hard for women too?
Taking on the responsibility of procreation and being forced to accept the man's entire complicated family relationships is not enough; you also have to raise your children well and arrange family life comfortably.
What's even more terrifying is that when you dedicate yourself entirely to your family, your figure changes, and your energy is depleted, some people will still jump out and say that you're just freeloading and enjoying a life of leisure...
She told her husband, Sun Lifang, not to have any expectations; they were business partners.
But she couldn't do that with her children; they provided her with too much emotional value.
Sun Lifang calmed down, turned off the main light, and turned on the small chandelier. The dim yellow light swayed back and forth in the evening breeze.
After changing into her pajamas, she sat on the sofa with a cup of hot milk to rest. Suddenly, she heard a noise at the small door. Turning her head, she saw Zhou Xinya rubbing her eyes as she came out to use the bathroom.
When the little girl saw her mother running over and hugging her, Sun Lifang rubbed her little head.
In the quiet of the night, the faint strains of the Little Tigers' song drifted from the television next door: "Don't linger on weekend midnights, come to Apple Paradise, welcome homeless children..."
The fatigue vanished with the music. Sun Lifang smiled slightly, holding the clingy little one in her arms, looking down at her belly, and letting out a long breath.
Her two children are still alive and well, and she is young and has plenty of time.
Sun Lifang dragged her clingy little daughter back to the master bedroom to sleep. Zhou Xinya was unusually clingy today, insisting that she be held while sleeping.
She held and comforted her, gently patting her with her other hand. As Zhou Xinya's belly grew bigger, Sun Lifang noticed that she was starting to feel a sense of crisis, and her recent behavior was quite abnormal.
