Chapter 16
At this moment, Rokudo Mukuro was walking on the famous Rippachi Street in Yokohama.
This is the most chaotic place in all of Yokohama.
Robbery, crime, conflict, bloodshed—these things happen all around us every moment.
This place is a paradise for criminals, a hell for ordinary people, and evidence of the crimes committed by those in power.
Rokudo Mukuro walked quietly down the street, feeling the prying, greedy, and malicious gazes directed at him from the shadows. He knew that the people here were like venomous snakes and hyenas, coveting him as their prey.
However, they dared not invade.
Mori Ōgai has been here with Rokudo Mukuro and Alice for some time now, and he has opened a small clinic in Raihachi Street. During the day, he diligently saves people with that fake smile, acting as an upright and righteous doctor, and is worshipped by everyone; at night, he builds connections, trades information, and earns a little money.
That is why the desperados in the Rippachi Street are wary of Mori Ougai's identity, and no one dares to provoke him, which also provides some protection for Rokudo Mukuro's safety.
After all, Mori Ōgai was the only doctor in the entire Rippachi district. No one was willing to risk their life, and everyone gets sick or injured sometimes. Offending Mori Ōgai and his child was not a worthwhile deal.
Moreover, even if someone comes looking for trouble, with Rokudo Mukuro's strength, he wouldn't know whether they're there to cause trouble or to die.
Rokudo Mukuro glanced at the alley next to him, then walked toward the clinic without pausing.
"Alice-chan~ Try this dress on! You'll look beautiful in it~" Rokudo Mukuro heard these words coming from inside the clinic as soon as he reached the entrance. Those who knew the place would recognize it as a clinic, while those who didn't might think it was a place under strict crackdown!
He walked in without changing his expression. Mori Ōgai was holding up a red dress and gesturing to Alice. Alice, however, sat in a chair, swinging her legs listlessly, completely ignoring Mori Ōgai.
"If you don't like that, here's another one!" Mori Ougai held up another light green princess dress. Behind him was a small pile of clothes, all of which were dresses he had bought for Alice.
It was Rokudo Mukuro's money that he used.
As soon as Rokudo Mukuro entered, Mori Ougai noticed him immediately, his eyes lighting up: "Mukuro-kun, you're back! Would you like to try on the new dress I bought? It'll definitely suit you!"
Mori Ougai is growing more and more fond of Rokudo Mukuro; he's rich, handsome, smart, and even willing to wear pretty little dresses to him!
Right now, besides Alice and Akiko, his favorite child is Mukuro.
Looking at the indigo blue dress that Mori Ougai took out, adorned with red decorations, the whole dress looked both beautiful and mysterious.
Rokudo Mukuro had to admit that while Mori Ougai was somewhat eccentric, he did have excellent taste. The dress he had chosen was exactly what he wanted.
In the past, he would have changed into a skirt without much trouble, especially in this hot weather; it's much more comfortable than pants. But he planned to go out later, so he decided not to change.
Mori Ougai wasn't too disappointed after receiving Rokudo Mukuro's rejection.
"Hmph, Rintaro, you're still making us change clothes here? How long has it been since you earned any money? If this keeps up, you might as well sell yourself to Mukuro-kun!" Alice jumped off the chair, hands on her hips, looking at Mori Ougai with dissatisfaction.
Mori Ougai felt a little guilty after hearing this. How much money could he make running a clinic in Leibo Street? He was making a profit as long as he didn't lose money. He earned money through information trading to keep the clinic running.
However, the clinic needed medicine to be replaced when it broke, and there were daily expenses for the three of them, such as clothes and food... everything required money. The little money he had from his initial intelligence trading business was far from enough for them.
Mori Ougai wasn't unable to get money from other places, but when Rokudo Mukuro took out his black card, showed him the balance on it, and generously offered to lend it to him, Mori Ougai was tempted!
I'm really tempted.
His heart pounded, and when he looked at the card and the owner of the black card, Rokudo Mukuro, love welled up uncontrollably in his eyes.
Money! Money falling from the sky! Who wouldn't love that?!
"Where are you going, Mukuro-kun?" Mori Ougai asked with concern. He wasn't worried about Mukuro's safety; based on their time together, he had already discovered that Mukuro was a man of great hidden abilities.
"Kufufufu... I found two adorable stray rabbits when I went out for a walk the other day. I'll go check them out later," Rokudo Mukuro said with a smile.
Mori Ougai felt no emotion upon hearing Rokudo Mukuro's laughter, but a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes at the other's words. Stray rabbits in Raihachi Street, lovable? Surely he wasn't talking about rabbits.
"Is Mukuro-kun planning to raise rabbits?" Everyone is curious, and Mori Ougai is no exception.
"I do have that plan." Rokudo Mukuro nodded in acknowledgment. In his mind, raising children or animals was simple. As long as they were brought under his control, labeled with his name, and given enough resources, they would thrive on their own.
“Mukuro-kun is so lucky to have met someone he likes. Alice-chan~ Let’s go out for a stroll later! Maybe we can pick up something to keep as a pet!” Mori Ougai said to Alice with great interest.
"Rintaro can't even support himself, what else does he want to support? He'd be better off spending his free time making money." Alice's words were a scathing rebuke to Mori Ōgai.
Rokudo Mukuro wore a comforting smile: "Alice, don't say that. Dr. Mori may not have money, but he has a heart that longs to get rich..."
Mori Ōgai was struck in the heart by another arrow.
Seeing Mori Ougai's blank expression and dejected look, Rokudo Mukuro said goodbye to them in a very good mood, then turned and went out again.
Happiness is indeed built on the suffering of others.
"Mukuro-kun, if you really like it, you can bring the rabbit home to raise!" Mori Ougai said with a smile to Rokudo Mukuro's retreating figure as he walked to the door. How could anything Rokudo Mukuro had his eye on be ordinary?
Rokudo Mukuro did not answer and continued walking away.
Since settling down in Yokohama, Rokudo Mukuro has used his own channels to obtain information about the city and to learn about Mori Ougai's identity.
Now, he was finally certain: Mori Ōgai was indeed the literary giant Mori Ōgai!
The evidence is the completely devastated literary world of this world.
The bookstore was filled with second-rate novels; there were none of the works by well-known literary masters such as Natsume Soseki, Mori Ōgai, Akutagawa Ryunosuke, and Higuchi Ichiyo.
Add to that Mori Ōgai, Yosano Akiko, the swordsman Fukuzawa Yukichi whom Mori Ōgai previously called Lord Silver Wolf, and the wary rabbit he met in Raibatsu Town. Rokudo Mukuro came to a utterly absurd conclusion: all the literary giants of this world had abandoned literature for martial arts and gone off to wield swords and spears.
"What a wonderful world!" Rokudo Mukuro thought to himself, wondering if the Vongola family existed in this world. If they did, he was about to present Sawada Tsunayoshi with a grand gift.
While preoccupied with his own thoughts, Rokudo Mukuro ignored the malicious stares and walked toward a restaurant outside the Raiba Street.
When visiting wary rabbits, it's always a good idea to bring food, as rabbits are delicate and need to be well cared for.
Carrying food in his hand, Rokudo Mukuro returned to Raihachi Street and headed in a certain direction.
A few days ago, while he was strolling around Leibo Street, he spotted a boy with delicate features, black hair and black eyes, and two strands of hair hanging down from his ears that were a gradient color with white ends, making him look just like a lop-eared rabbit.
At the time, the boy was being attacked by several people. Rokudo Mukuro didn't have any extra sympathy and had no intention of helping. He simply hid and watched the commotion from the sidelines. However, the name of the superpower the boy mentioned caught his attention.
"Rashomon".
This name sounds so familiar no matter how I look at it.
After watching the boy finish off those people, he picked up the bread that had fallen to the ground, coughed a few times while covering his mouth, and turned and left with a slightly unsteady gait.
Rokudo Mukuro quickly made a judgment in his mind and immediately followed. Regardless of whether it was the person he guessed, judging from his strength, it wouldn't be a loss to train him.
He saw the child return to a dilapidated hut with the food. Inside the hut was a girl who was a little younger than him. Judging from their somewhat similar appearances, they were probably siblings.
"Brother, you're not feeling well, please take me with you next time, I'll help you." The little girl rushed to greet her brother as he finally returned.
Being in Leibo Street means being in danger. Going out means being injured or dying, which is commonplace. They have long been used to it, but they still want to live.
The boy reached out and patted the girl's head, a slight smile appearing on his usually expressionless face: "I have superpowers, nothing will happen. Here's today's food, eat up."
It's easy to imagine how difficult it would be for two children to live in this cannibalistic Leibo Street.
Rokudo Mukuro carefully observed the boy he had discovered. His body was frail and sickly, his situation was incredibly difficult, and he was also accompanied by an even weaker younger sister...
If this boy really is Ryunosuke Akutagawa, the author of "Rashomon" in his mind, then the world is truly too malicious towards them.
Thinking of this, Rokudo Mukuro, unusually, felt a rare urge to show kindness and help the literary giant he admired. He manifested himself outside the two children's door, but before he could knock, a dark figure burst through the door and lunged at him.
Rokudo Mukuro examined the dark figure. It was a sharp cloth blade with a beast's head at the tip. Its ferocious appearance alone was enough to tell you how powerful it was.
Rokudo Mukuro's figure vanished from his spot just as the beast's shadow was about to pierce him, and when he reappeared, he was already beside the boy.
"Kufufufu... Don't be so fierce, I didn't mean any harm." Rokudo Mukuro spread his hands out and shrugged slightly, showing that he was harmless.
"Who are you? Why are you following me?" The boy did not relax because of Rokudo Mukuro's actions. On the contrary, his eyes became more vigilant, and his supernatural power was stirring behind him, ready to kill him at any moment.
The boy's eyes were fierce, staring at Rokudo Mukuro as if he might pounce at any moment. The boy knew that the person in front of him, who was about his age, was strong, but... his empty eyes hardened.
He could die, but his sister Yin absolutely could not be harmed because of him.
