Disbelief
Xu Xi didn't know when she fell asleep. She only remembered that before she fell asleep, Chen Shuning was in her mind.
In the morning, Xu Xi was woken up by a phone call. It was only 6:30 in the morning, and Xu Xi's mother called and asked her to come over for breakfast.
Mother Xu: "Your dad made breakfast this morning. He made a lot of buns. Come over and have breakfast."
Xu Xi lay on the bed with her eyes closed, the phone pressed against her ear.
"Mom, it's only six o'clock."
Mother Xu maintained her usual attitude. "It's half past six. Six o'clock? You don't have to work right now. Come over, eat, then go back to sleep. We won't say anything."
Xu Xi heard the voice on the other end rise, so she subconsciously moved the phone a little further away. But when she heard the word "work", her head suddenly perked up. Remembering that she had to take Chen Shuning to work later, she immediately jumped out of bed and said to her mother on the phone, "Mom, I'll be there right away."
Xu Xi simply washed up, changed into casual clothes, took her cell phone and keys and went out.
Arriving at her parents' house, Xu Xi smelled a delicious aroma as soon as she walked in. Her parents were sitting at the dining table, having breakfast. There was a half-basin of steamed buns, soy milk, and porridge on the table.
Xu Xi walked over with an incredible look on her face and said in disbelief, "Dad, you made so many buns?"
When Xu Xi came, she also thought that if they talked about more, it would probably just be an extra breakfast for her, but she didn't expect it to be half a basin of buns.
Father Xu just replied softly: "Yeah. I want to eat buns."
He didn't mention why he made so many buns.
Xu Xi pulled out a chair and sat down, picked up a bun and took a bite, then looked at her mother, asking her for the reason.
"What's going on?" Xu Xi asked cautiously. With so many buns and porridge, they couldn't be finished in one day. This was enough to make breakfast for a week.
Mother Xu looked at Father Xu, her face relaxed. "When your father was adding flour, a large bowl of water beside him accidentally spilled into the flour bag. The flour that got soaked in water could only be used to make dumplings, so it was wasted. That's why he made so many dumplings."
Oh, I see.
Xu Xi blinked, looking at the pile of buns, and suddenly an idea came to her mind. With so many buns, the three of them couldn't finish them all, so could she pack some for Chen Shuning and Xiao Mu?
Thinking of this, Xu Xi asked directly. "Dad, I'll take some buns to my friend later. We can't finish all of this, and it won't taste as fresh if we keep it for next time."
"Yeah, sure." Father Xu finally smiled a bit. "I was just worried this whole pot of buns would go to waste. You might as well give some to your friend."
After hearing what her father said, Xu Xi was about to get up to get a plastic bag to put the buns in, but her mother got up before her and went to the refrigerator to get a plastic bag.
"You can make breakfast, I'll go get it and pack it for you."
Xu Xi was eating the buns and thought about the buns she was bringing for two people, so she said to her mother, "Mom, pack them in two. I'll take one for Xiao Mu, and the other for..."
When Xu Xi was about to say Chen Shuning's name, she suddenly paused. Perhaps she was worried that her parents hadn't fully accepted that she liked girls yet, so she hesitated when she mentioned Chen Shuning in front of them. However, Xu Xi finally said Chen Shuning's name because she thought about it again and again and was sure that her parents would eventually accept her and Chen Shuning being together.
She and Chen Shuning are now officially dating, so it’s okay to tell her parents directly. Or you can understand it this way, she can officially tell them that she is in love without having to mention Chen Shuning’s name guiltily like last time.
Xu Xi: "I also want to bring one to Chen Shuning, the girl I told you about before."
Mother Xu paused as she packed the dumplings in a plastic bag. She looked up at Xu Xi, her eyes full of confusion. "Do you live close to each other, or are you already living together?"
When her mother asked about the word "living together", Xu Xi couldn't help but think of the kiss she had with Chen Shuning last night. She suddenly felt a little unnatural and stuttered when she spoke.
"No, we don't live together."
Father Xu: “…”
Mother Xu: “…”
The two elders just looked at each other, but did not say a word. However, the atmosphere when they were not talking seemed a little worse than when they were talking.
Xu Xi felt their distrust.
She explained again. "We really didn't live together."
But it seems to be of no use, my parents still don’t seem to believe it.
Mother Xu packed the buns and sat next to him. She was silent for a while, as if she was thinking about her words. When she spoke, her words seemed to be more serious and sincere.
"Xixi, you said you're in love, and we don't object, but we're also worried that you might meet a bad person. So, if you have time someday, bring Shuning back to show us."
