Encounter

Xu Xi packed up and went out alone.

Because she wanted to experience the surrounding environment, she did not drive her second-hand car this time, but chose to walk.

Although she knew her destination, Xu Xi deliberately took a detour, strolling along the way. Before her rebirth, she'd spent her days commuting between her office and her rental apartment. She didn't rest on weekends or other days, instead continuing her part-time job. She rarely allowed herself time to rest, readily accepting part-time jobs assigned by other companies, often working overtime and sometimes sleeping for only two or three hours.

As a result, she had no idea what shops were around and what delicious food each shop sold. Of course, she did know about larger shopping malls and landmarks.

Xu Xi walked along the street, looking left and right. Although she grew up here, she now looked like a newcomer who had just arrived in South City.

The buildings and roads in this city were demolished and rebuilt, and she never paid much attention to them.

Xu Xi walked around alone for a long time. She found two large bookstores on the map on her phone, but couldn't find the kind of books she wanted in either of them.

Finally, Xu Xi arrived at an old bookstore. It was a place she and Xiao Mu often visited when she was in school. Back then, they would come here to buy some study materials and occasionally use their pocket money to buy some extracurricular books. So, she knew that she could buy some romance novels here.

She hadn't held out much hope at first, so she just thought she'd just browse around. If she couldn't find it, she'd just take a walk and change her mood.

However, when she walked to a corner of the bookstore, she saw a basket full of books, which were neatly arranged. However, judging by the paper materials, they were all old books. The corners of the books had some creases or yellowing marks.

Xu Xi was bored and walked closer out of curiosity. Then she saw a sign hanging next to the basket, which read: Special Price Used Books, 2 Yuan a Book.

Xu Xi reached out and flipped through two dictionaries and a physics workbook. Finding nothing special, she decided not to waste time next to this tree.

But when she was about to turn around, she accidentally bumped into the basket of books. Because the basket was so full, Xu Xi just touched it lightly, and the stacked books fell to the ground with a clatter.

Xu Xi looked embarrassed. She turned to look at the store owner and apologized without saying a word. Then she squatted down and picked up the books on the ground.

Fortunately, the lady boss was good-tempered and just said it was okay. The books were already piled too full and they were all old.

Xu Xi breathed a sigh of relief and continued to pick up the books on the ground and put them back into the box.

When she was halfway through cutting, Xu Xi suddenly found a magical book in front of her. It was exactly what she needed.

Xu Xi stared at the big words on the book, and her eyes lit up.

"A Handbook for Chasing Goddesses?" Xu Xi reached for the book, muttering the words. After reading it, she felt a little unbelievable, even a little amused. There really was such a book in the world.

For most books, she would read the introduction before buying them, but for this book, just looking at the name was enough.

Xu Xi quickly picked up the scattered books on the ground and put them into the box. She planned to check out now and buy this book today.

After shopping, it’s almost time to go home. I’ve been shopping outside for quite a long time today.

However, Xu Xi had just stood up and was about to turn around when she almost bumped into someone.

Xu Xi was startled and stumbled back two steps. Before she could even say sorry, the other party spoke first.

"I'm sorry, didn't I scare you?"

Such a familiar voice, such a familiar smell.

Xu Xi raised her eyes and took a closer look at the person who had almost walked up to her. "Chen Shuning?"

Chen Shuning wore a side ponytail and a light mint green forest-style skirt. She was holding a book in her arms, looking like a quiet and gentle fairy.

Xu Xi was completely stunned. Her heart was beating very fast.

She didn't understand how someone could be so beautiful.

Chen Shuning smiled faintly and said hello to her. "What a coincidence! Are you here to buy books too?"

It was quite a coincidence. In fact, she would rather say it was fate. It was her chance.

Xu Xi blinked, and a smile appeared on her face unconsciously. "Yes, I was bored at home, so I came out for a walk to see if there were any new books recently."

Chen Shuning lowered his eyes slightly, glanced at the book in Xu Xi's hand, and said nothing.

She took the initiative to bring up the incident this morning when she hung up halfway through a phone call.

"By the way, you said on the phone this morning that you called me because you had something to tell me, but the call was suddenly hung up, so I didn't hear it. When I called again, it was already turned off."
