Ningning

Ningning

Xu Xi hesitated for two seconds, and finally decided to promise a gift to Chen Shuning. However, it was not a birthday gift.

Because her birthday was so far away, promising a birthday present now felt like empty promises. Xu Xi decided to choose a gift that could be given in the near future. She had a good excuse right before her. She wanted to give her a gift as a thank you for staying tonight to help. And she would definitely follow through. The "Goddess Chaser's Handbook" made it clear: giving gifts to a goddess was a way to coax her, and keeping promises was key. Shouldn't that be wrong?

As for birthdays, Xu Xi learned Chen Shuning's birthday today, which she considered a reward and progress in her pursuit of Chen Shuning. If she could finally win her over, she could give her a small surprise. How romantic that would be.

Just thinking about these scenes makes me feel so happy.

Xu Xi cleared her throat, suppressing her inner nervousness. "Shuning, as a thank you, I'll give you a gift. Is there anything you'd like?"

"Gift?"

Chen Shuning listened to Xu Xi talking, casually opened the WeChat chat software, then turned her head to look at Xu Xi, but was suddenly attracted by two words on the phone screen. She turned her head back, looked at the phone screen, and answered Xu Xi's question casually.

"You don't have to be so polite with me. You really don't need to give me a gift."

After she finished speaking, she added, "By the way, who is Xiao Mu on the list?"

Don't you need it? Feeling that this situation was a little bit wrong, Xu Xi's heart was hazy, and she didn't know why, so she simply skipped the topic of gifts and answered Chen Shuning's question first.

"The one with the note 'wooden man' is Xiao Mu."

Chen Shuning looked at the frame of the portrait marked as a wooden man. There was a person marked as "Ningning". It was these two words that attracted her just now, and that portrait was the one she used. She smiled silently, without asking too many questions, and just said softly:

"Then I'll send a message to Xiao Mu."

"Okay." Xu Xi was driving seriously. He saw her typing with her head down from the corner of his eye, so he didn't say anything else.

A few minutes passed, and Chen Shuning looked up. "Okay, Xiao Mu said she doesn't have much barbecue left, but she's a little overwhelmed. But it should be sold out soon. She also sent us the location."

"Yeah, okay."

At this time, they just arrived at the square, and Xu Xi found a place to park.

When unbuckling the seat belt, Xu Xi couldn't help but ask again.

"Shuning, do you really not have any gift you want?"

Chen Shuning paused while unbuckling her seat belt and turned to look at Xu Xi.

"You really want to give me a gift?"

Xu Xi nodded seriously. "Yeah, really."

"Why?" Chen Shuning asked softly. Is it just to thank me for helping out here tonight?

"Because..." Xu Xi uttered the first two words in a low voice, and could not say the rest because she had realized that her behavior was somewhat inappropriate.

"I just wanted to give it to you." Xu Xi lowered her head guiltily. She couldn't come up with any fancy reasons, and she didn't want her words to sound like a lie.

So, she chose to confess part of it, and the other part that she couldn't say, she chose to hide for the time being. She couldn't just confess herself directly for this reason, because she liked him, right?

Xu Xi: "I just want to thank you, but this is not entirely out of gratitude..." There is also an indescribable love.

Chen Shuning pursed her lips slightly, her breath easing. Her mind was still brooding on the note "Ningning" that had just appeared on Xu Xi's WeChat list. She felt that if it wasn't just a thank you note, then accepting this gift would have made sense.

She said, "You said last time that you had a cactus planted on your balcony. I want a pot of cactus, is that okay?"

"Of course." Xu Xi agreed immediately. "I'll send it to you next time I'm free."

I just don’t know what went wrong with my inappropriate behavior just now. I can only wait for a chance to ask Xiao Mu.

Chen Shuning nodded. "Okay."

When Xu Xi and Chen Shuning found Xiao Mu, she was brushing the barbecue skewers with ingredients. She looked very busy.

The two walked forward, and Xu Xi asked, "Xiao Mu, how's it going here?"

Xiao Mu looked up and saw that it was her. It was as if he had seen his savior. Then Xiao Mu threw the grilled skewers with the ingredients to Xu Xi without any hesitation. "Here, take it and help me pack it up."

Xiao Mu pointed to the takeout bag next to him. "Here's the bag. This portion is for the two aunties here."

"Oh, okay." Xu Xi silently took the skewers, packed them up, and handed them to the two aunties. Meanwhile, Xiao Mu prepared another batch of skewers and handed them over. However, Xu Xi hadn't finished packing the previous batch yet, so she didn't have time to take it. Just as she was about to ask Xiao Mu to put it aside, she saw a white hand take the new batch of skewers.

Xiao Mu didn't look up, just focused on brushing the grilling ingredients, not realizing who had taken the skewers. "These five skewers belong to the uncle over there."

Chen Shuning reached out and took it without saying a word.

Xu Xi didn't stop her movements, and subconsciously glanced up at Chen Shuning. She had wanted to let her rest nearby, but then she remembered that when she had just come over, she had said she wanted to experience the feeling of selling things at a stall, but she had never had the chance before. So Xu Xi kept silent and worked on her own things.

Until the number of customers decreased and they had almost nothing left of the barbecue, Xiao Mu took advantage of the time when no one came to buy barbecue skewers, slowly raised her head, breathed a sigh of relief and took a rest.

But the next second, Xiao Mu noticed Chen Shuning next to him, and his body, which had just relaxed, suddenly tensed up again. Xiao Mu really didn't expect that Chen Shuning hadn't gone back at this time.

Xiao Mu looked at Chen Shuning and then at Xu Xi with a surprised expression. She couldn't help but wonder if her childhood friend was being too eager to pursue her. He didn't even send her back at this hour. How much did he like her and why did he want to be together so much?

She asked Xu Xi blankly. "No, you, haven't sent Chen Shuning back yet? You like... Hey,"

Before Xiao Mu could finish his words, Xu Xi pinched Xiao Mu quietly where Chen Shuning couldn't see as a warning to Xiao Mu not to talk nonsense.

Xiao Mu slapped Xu Xi's hand away speechlessly. "What are you doing? What do you think I'm going to say? I'm saying that just because you like staying up late doesn't mean others do too. Why don't you send them home so late?"

Before Xu Xi could explain, Chen Shuning spoke up, "I wanted to come here on my own. I don't have anything to do tomorrow, so I thought I'd come over to see if there's anything else I can do to help."

After hearing what Chen Shuning said, Xiao Mu said a meaningful "Oh". Then she looked at her childhood friend standing next to her, looking dumbfounded. She felt that Xu Xi must have become stupid from studying. That was why Xu Xi was still not enlightened in such a situation. Xiao Mu withdrew her gaze from the "idiot". If they kept following each other like this, it was unclear who would be chasing whom.

This idiot childhood friend actually thinks she's so lucky, all this fate and rhythm. I really want to punch her through the Ren and Du meridians and open her mind.

Xiao Mu looked at the barbecue stall and saw that there were about 100 skewers left. He then glanced at the time on his phone. It was almost 12 o'clock.

As he put away his phone, he flipped through the barbecue skewers and suddenly said, "Let's eat the remaining barbecue skewers. I really appreciate you helping me deal with these tonight. It's time for us to sit down and have a good rest."
