Chapter 55 "If you won't let me kiss you, then let's receive some good fortune..."
The sky was clear and bright. A ray of light shone through the window and onto the clothes scattered on the ground. Even the clusters of flowers embroidered on the hem of the skirt seemed to come alive, the red and yellow flowers all shining brightly.
Qin Lizheng always woke up earlier than Qian Yingyi. He was wearing a dark, grape-patterned round-necked robe with the sleeves rolled up. He squatted down by the bed, reached into the quilt to pull her out, and said, "You're awake, so get up. Why are you avoiding me?"
"Hey, get out of here, get out of here!" Qian Yingyi huddled under the covers like a quail, then glared at him angrily, her head still covered, revealing slightly swollen eyes. "You seem to have plenty of energy!"
Good heavens, after holding back for so long, he really had no restraint. She was also gradually losing consciousness in the middle of the night, with only waves of less intense pleasure washing over her. She was even crying before falling asleep!
After she cried for a while, he stopped comforting her and saying "stop crying," as if her tears could scald his blood and invigorate him again and again.
...Would she still be able to stay at the hotel after her wedding?
Qin Lizheng grabbed her smooth arm tightly, wrapped it around her, and kissed her forehead heavily. When she tried to dodge, he forcefully pulled her back and kissed her twice more. "Don't dodge me. If you dodge again, I won't get up. Take off your robe now..."
As soon as he finished speaking, he indeed freed one hand to undo his leather belt, startling Qian Yingyi so much that she quickly grabbed his arm, stubbornly prying his knuckles open, and gave a sheepish laugh, "I wasn't hiding from you! I wasn't hiding!"
She then looked up at him pitifully, her bright eyes sparkling, "I'll sleep a little longer. I don't want to wear those clothes from yesterday anymore. Can you quietly go home and find me a new outfit?"
The word "home" pierced Qin Lizheng's heart, as if he were already her husband. But even though he was very pleased to hear it, he shook his head stubbornly, just like her, "No, I won't leave you here alone."
"I know you're a clean person. I was originally going to buy you a new set of clothes, but the clothes outside haven't been washed, and I don't think you'd really like wearing them. Just bear with it for now, and I'll change into them as soon as we get home, okay?"
He reached out to pull her closer, coaxing her repeatedly, "What day is the day after tomorrow? Don't you remember? It's the two days before Chuntang's wedding. Aren't you going to be with her?"
Sure enough, as soon as Chuntang was mentioned that she was getting married, Qian Yingyi hurriedly sat up wrapped in the quilt, but her eyes were still languid and about to close. She couldn't help but rub her lips together and complained to him in a low voice, "It's all your fault. If you do this again next time, I...I...I won't allow you to come to bed with me again!"
Qin Lizheng couldn't help but chuckle, leaning down to gently bite her neck, and mumbled in response, "I'll be more restrained next time."
These words sounded familiar, and Qian Yingyi felt like she had heard them before, but she couldn't remember where she was. So she simply stopped thinking about it, pushed him away, and, fulfilling her duty as a young lady, confidently reached out to him, "Where's my dress?"
A moment later, Qin Lizheng handed her the clothes one by one. Qian Yingyi dressed herself and leaned in front of him, waiting for him to braid her hair, while concealing her desire for excitement. "Hey, when we walk home later, let's buy some food and pretend we left early in the morning."
Qin Lizheng couldn't help but laugh out loud when he heard this. He thought to himself that this reason was really lame and that it would be better if he used his lightness skill to jump into the house. However, he still indulged her nonsense, gathered a few strands of her hair with his fingers, and replied, "Okay."
The sunrise is accompanied by layers of cloud shadows, and the maple leaves are burning red. With just a gentle touch, the hustle and bustle of the city, day after day, is brought back to life, like a whirlwind playing music.
At noon, they had lunch together. Mrs. Pei looked around at everyone, poured herself a glass of wine, and then stood up and said, "It is my fault for disturbing your esteemed residence. Please accept this glass of wine."
The Qian family members quickly echoed, "It's alright."
After a while of toasting and drinking, Mrs. Pei said, "To be honest, it was because I agreed to the divorce and had no relation to the Pei family that the Military Command released me, thanks to Minister Qian's influence. My family is wealthy in Huai'an, and I only have one older brother. I have never been married, let alone have any children."
“In the past few years, my brother often advised me to leave the Pei family. I delayed this because I was looking for Pearl. Now that we are divorced and reunited with Pearl, I am thinking of taking Pearl back to Huai'an to live with my brother.”
After speaking, she turned to look at Chuntang and gave her a gentle smile.
Qian Yingyi, who was engrossed in her meal, was startled by the words and looked up at Chuntang. Thinking that Chuntang might not have told Mrs. Pei about her upcoming marriage yet, she cleared her throat. "Madam, there's something you might not know yet, Chuntang is getting married soon..."
Mrs. Pei was indeed unaware, and slightly surprised, she quickly stood up and asked, "Who is that person? When was the engagement made? And when will the wedding take place?"
When asked the last few questions, she seemed a bit confused. It was only after Chuntang received a look from Qian Yingyi that she came to her senses. With a smile, she pulled Mrs. Pei back onto the round stool. Thinking that she wouldn't understand even if she gestured, she simply got up and walked outside. After a while, she pulled Xiao Daimao back in.
Mrs. Pei's gaze immediately fell on Little Tortoiseshell, sharp and scrutinizing. Little Tortoiseshell, under his mother-in-law's gaze, couldn't help but feel intimidated, keeping his eyes down and remaining silent for a moment.
Xia Ling observed for a moment, her eyes darting around, then chuckled twice before stepping forward to speak to Mrs. Pei:
“Madam, his name is Jiang Yu, Yu as in fisherman. His parents run a small business in Jinling. Although he is our family’s guard, he only needs to watch over Miss. He has a contract with a flexible contract, not a slave contract.”
"Because Chuntang and I were both by Miss's side, we developed feelings for each other. Half a year ago, we confessed our feelings to each other and asked Miss and the old master for their opinions before arranging their marriage. The wedding date is the day after tomorrow. I suppose Chuntang was so happy to see her mother that she forgot about this for a while."
At this moment, for some unknown reason, Xiao Daimao changed his reserved demeanor and quickly took Chuntang's hand. The two of them knelt down in front of Madam Pei. He said, "Madam, I truly love her. Without her, I would never have the chance to get married in my life. I would do anything for her."
Although Chuntang couldn't hear what he was saying, she looked at her mother with pleading eyes.
Mrs. Pei's heart softened at the sight, so she could only force a smile, help the two of them up, first patting Chuntang's head, and then saying to Xiao Daimao, "Even so, I can't take her back to Huai'an. Are your parents free this time? Please introduce them to me this afternoon."
The little hawksbill turtle was overjoyed and nodded repeatedly, "They're free, they're free, I'll go and invite them right away!"
So in the afternoon, the elders of the two families met. Mr. and Mrs. Jiang were surprised by Chuntang's background, thinking that she was a young lady from a wealthy family and that their son was marrying above his station. They became even more gentle and cautious when speaking to Mrs. Pei.
While busy talking to the two, Mrs. Pei also kept an eye on her daughter's expression. Seeing that her daughter also genuinely wanted to marry the young man named Jiang Yu, and considering that being able to reunite with her daughter was already a blessing from heaven, she happily agreed.
As night fell, the water clock ticked, and the watchman struck the third watch gong. The three girls nestled together on the couch.
Qian Yingyi and Xia Ling were initially happy, but perhaps because the two of them were about to leave Jinling while Chuntang stayed behind, or perhaps because the memories of their years of companionship were flowing back, they eventually burst into tears and hugged Chuntang tightly, refusing to let go.
The moon was bright and the stars were few. Unbeknownst to them, the deep reluctance and friendship that had condensed into a ball of affection transformed into the wind outside the window screen. Unbeknownst to them, the wind blew in a crimson glow, the sky cleared, and a pair of birds spread their wings and flew together. The wedding day had just arrived.
Qian Yingyi hurriedly ran around Yunteng Pavilion early in the morning. She had already discussed it with her grandfather the night before. In the end, she was going to get married in the capital. Chuntang had long regarded Yunteng Pavilion as her home, so she would get married from the main room of the west wing of Yunteng Pavilion.
Beneath the bright red beaded curtain and draped gauze was Chuntang's graceful figure in her wedding dress. Joyful atmosphere stretched throughout Yunteng Pavilion. Several servants and maids from the household came running in succession to announce, "He's here! He's here! The groom has arrived!"
Qian Yingyi's face immediately broke into a broad smile. She suddenly clenched her fist, stretched her neck, and shouted outside, "I know!"
Immediately following was a deafening burst of firecrackers. Qian Yingyi and Xia Ling laughed so hard that even their red pomegranate earrings trembled. Although Chun Tang couldn't hear, she had long since developed the ability to read people and things. She glanced at the door with her gentle and pure gaze and knew in her heart that Jiang Yu had come to greet her.
Just as she was smiling, a bright red veil covered her face. A group of people, led by Qian Yingyi, escorted her out. Perhaps because they were reluctant to part, they did not walk very fast. It took them quite a while to reach the front hall. Chuntang bid farewell to Madam Pei, followed by Qian Lanting, the eldest member of the Qian family.
The wedding procession was very lively. Even Qin Lizheng was dressed in a gull-blue robe with a right-fastening crane pattern and a red silk ribbon hanging from his waist. He stood calmly outside the hall, not as noisy as the others, and waited quietly for the bride to come out.
A moment later, a group of figures dressed in bright red stepped out of the main hall. Little Tortoiseshell was wearing a bright red round-necked robe, with a pair of clean black boots on her straight legs. She was wearing a black gauze hat that she had never worn before. The moment she saw Chuntang's figure, she could no longer hide the smile on her face, which was flamboyant and unrestrained.
After Xiao Daimao took Chuntang away, Qin Lizheng looked through the crowd at his bride. The two huddled together and talked briefly. Qin Lizheng, avoiding the crowd, gently squeezed her fingers and gazed at her made-up face with tender eyes. "Where did this celestial beauty come from?"
Qian Yingyi was startled by him. Unable to break free from the warm touch on her fingertips, she glanced around. Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, she pinched him hard back. "You've gotten bolder and bolder coming with the wedding procession today. There are so many people here, huh? What celestial beauty? Are you praising me?"
Qian Yingyi mumbled a few words in her soft voice, discerning the praise in his words. Her eyelashes fluttered slightly, revealing a hint of shyness.
The two of them lagged behind. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him leaning closer with his face tilted to the side. The mint scent was even stronger. She quickly jumped aside and pretended to scold him, "Oh dear, you really are bold. You do all sorts of things in broad daylight. No, you can't! My makeup looks so good today. You can't ruin it!"
As they were talking, the sound of firecrackers grew louder and louder, and the sound of gongs and drums seemed to be heard throughout half of Jinling City. Because Mrs. Pei's family was very wealthy, she was busy looking for a master to help her daughter get married, and she made sure to put on a grand show in just two days.
Upon hearing the sound of firecrackers, countless people from the Qian family crowded towards the door. Taking advantage of this moment, Qin Lizheng grabbed Qian Yingyi's waist, untied the red silk ribbon from his waist, and stuffed it into her hand. His gaze was more fiery than ever before. "If you won't let me kiss you, then take this and receive the good fortune."
Immediately, the sedan bearers outside shouted, "Lift the sedan chair!"
Qin Lizheng leaned close to her, his face hovering before her eyes, and made a vow before her. His voice was soft, yet his words were solemn, "At that time, I will also use this to hold your hand, to make you mine..."
The firecrackers were too loud, and Qian Yingyi didn't hear what he said afterward. She only remembered that his smile widened in an instant, and then he turned around and hurried into the wedding procession, leaving her standing there for a moment, her face gradually turning red with embarrassment, and she stomped her feet repeatedly.
The wedding procession proceeded straight to the new house, accompanied by the sound of gongs and drums. Several maids scattered candies and coins along the way, and the people on the road were all smiles, exchanging auspicious words. The noise and laughter mingled together. Before long, the sun began to set. Most of the guests were young men, and they stopped making a ruckus in the bridal chamber. After a while, they dispersed.
Little Tortoiseshell gently pushed open the door and quietly gazed at the beautiful dream from the entrance. After working for most of the day, he felt as if he were having a tender and lingering dream.
It wasn't until Chuntang was welcomed and they went through the wedding ceremony together, and now, with all the guests gone and only he and she remaining under the roof, that he finally found a sense of reality again.
After gazing at Chuntang for a moment, the young man smiled, then gently closed the door behind him, afraid of startling himself and disturbing her. Even knowing she couldn't hear his declarations of love, he still walked towards her step by step, calling her name again and again with intense affection, "Chuntang...my wife..."
Chuntang waited with her eyes lowered for half a day. When a pair of black boots appeared before her, a smile immediately appeared on her lips. Her feet, clad in bright red embroidered shoes, emerged from her skirt, her toes lightly touching his. The next moment, Xicheng lifted his veil, and she met eyes shrouded in starlight.
The little hawksbill turtle's earlobes gradually blushed red, and I restrained myself from looking away—you are so beautiful.
Chuntang paused, her face flushed even more from the rouge, and she gently tugged at his sleeve—"You're the one who's embarrassed, I'm hungry."
Yes! While he was out drinking and chatting, she had been waiting quietly inside for most of the day. Little Tortoiseshell suddenly slapped her forehead, turned around and rushed out, muttering, "I can't let you go hungry. Look at my memory! I'll go get you something to eat right now..."
Before he could finish speaking, a pair of delicate hands suddenly wrapped tightly around his waist. Little Tortoiseshell stopped in his tracks, looking down at the jade-like hands clasped in front of him. He was a little bewildered. He grasped those hands, turned around, and stared at Chuntang with a probing gaze.
Chuntang blushed even more, hooking her arm around his belt and backing away. Little Tortoiseshell blinked, then came to his senses. The more he followed her, the more obvious the desire and love in his eyes became.
He touched Chuntang's earlobe, his fingertips gliding along the soft lines of her jaw, removed the crown from her head, and sat upright beside her.
After gazing at her intently for a while, his eyes gradually darkened along with Mingyue's. He gently pressed his lips to hers, kissing her with boundless love, lingering over her lips repeatedly.
The room was bathed in a dim, reddish light, which cast a pale pink hue on the skin of the two figures. Fine, dense kisses fell on Chuntang's willow-leaf eyebrows, cheeks, and neck. The red candle burned dimmer and dimmer, but the body temperature inside the tent grew ever more intense.
The gauze curtains hung low, and the bright moon gradually became hazy. The anticipated joy passed through Chuntang, and the two of them froze for a moment. Then, a few drops of hot sweat dripped onto her face, which were quickly swept away by her gentle lips and tongue.
As the wind blew up the fallen leaves in the garden and the outside grew colder, the two people inside the house burned with passion for each other, enduring through the night.
The wind was strong and the clouds were low. The stream bridge was damp and cold. The Qinhuai River stretched as far as the eye could see. Two days after Chuntang and Xiao Daimao got married, Qian Yingyi went to the Yan family.
Yan Qiuyan had known for some time that Qian Yingyi was going back to the capital, but she hadn't expected it to come so soon. She held her and cried for a long time, sobbing as she said, "The first time I saw you, I knew we would get along well and have been together for so many years. Now that you're not in Jinling, where can I look for you when I miss you?"
Yan Qiuyan burst into tears, crying, "I can't bear to part with you!"
Her pet parrot also cried, "I can't bear to part with you! I can't bear to part with you!"
Qian Yingyi chuckled and patted her back to coax her, "You haven't been to the capital yet. Don't worry, we'll meet again soon. Once the invitation arrives, you'll have to rush to the capital without stopping. Remember that?"
Yan Qiuyan nodded repeatedly, letting Qian Yingyi stay at her house overnight and sleep with her. She didn't let Qian Yingyi leave until the afternoon of the next day. When they truly parted, she still looked at her from outside the house with her eyes full of tears, saying, "It's a promise. When we return to the capital, we'll still be the best of friends. You've made new friends over there, so don't forget me. Remember me too!"
Qian Yingyi chuckled and said, "I know, I know. Yan Qiuyan has always been at the top of my list. Yanyan, see you in the capital again."
She then gently lifted the carriage curtain, and the carriage traveled to the Qian residence. Qian Yingyi, who had been holding back her tears for half a day, could no longer hold them back the moment she saw Qian Lanting. She rushed through the hanging flower gate and threw herself into Qian Lanting's arms, her voice choked with sobs, "Grandpa!"
Qian Lanting was taken aback, then smiled knowingly, his eyes welling up with tears. He gently patted her back and said, "When you were ten, you came to Jinling with your grandfather. You weren't this reluctant to leave your parents then. If your parents saw you like this, they would be heartbroken. Good child, don't cry. You just won't see your grandfather for a while. It's not like your grandfather is going to die."
These words made Qian Yingyi stamp her foot in exasperation, "Pah! Pah! Pah! You're not allowed to talk nonsense!"
As she spoke, she reached out to wipe Qian Lanting's mouth, but Qian Lanting laughed and dodged her. She pointed behind her, her two white beards twitching slightly. "Alright, alright, you can't be so outrageous. This time you're really going home. Your father is always so old-fashioned, so don't keep up your anger. Talk things out properly, understand? You'll be able to see your grandfather again soon. Doesn't your grandfather have to go back to the capital to see you off to your wedding?"
The conversation circled back to Qian Yingyi and Qin Lizheng. Qian Yingyi glanced at Qin Lizheng twice, knowing that her grandfather had agreed to Qin Lizheng's proposal. A mix of bitterness and joy welled up inside her, making her dangle her arm around Qian Lanting's again. "Then it's agreed that ten days before my wedding, no, half a month, a month before! You must return to the capital to stay!"
Qian Lanting chuckled twice, concealing the reluctance in his eyes, and stroked her head, replying, "Alright! Grandpa will definitely keep his promise!"
The next moment, he looked at Qin Lizheng again, his smile fading, and instructed, "Only the two of you are going back to the capital this time. You must take good care of my granddaughter."
Qin Lizheng quickly nodded and bowed.
The next day, amidst the misty clouds and vast waters, Qian Yingyi boarded a boat at the dock. The sound of the water crashing against her ears echoed her intense reluctance to leave, and she couldn't help but wave and call out, "Sister, Grandpa, Second Uncle and Second Aunt, Brother, Xia Ling, Chun Tang, see you again in the capital—"
Qian Qiyu deliberately asked for leave from the prefectural school to see her off, his voice choked with sobs, "I'll come to the capital to visit you at the end of the year, ah, sister!"
Xia Ling was so clever that she seemed almost supernatural. Knowing that her mistress and her sweetheart were of one mind, she thought that it would be a hindrance for her to go back to the capital with them. So she decided to stay behind. She said she would stay with Chuntang for a while longer, and that she would go back to the capital with Qian Yuxing and his wife when Yu Cheng had toured all of Jiangnan and the year was almost over.
Several figures on the shore gradually disappeared into the vast mist. Qian Yingyi's nose tingled, and she couldn't help but glare at Qin Lizheng.
After the boat rocked on the river for half a day, Qian Yingyi finally cast aside her worries and instantly changed to a joyful expression. Her eyes shone with long-awaited light as she stood on the boat gazing at the vast river. "Thinking about how many years it's been since I've been back to the capital, what must it look like now? Ah Zheng, I'm starting to get excited!"
Qin Lizheng smiled and said, "Not much has changed. You'll see when you get there."
So, filled with excitement, Qian Yingyi chattered around Qin Lizheng like a little bird, asking him questions all the way.
Only after passing through Xizhimen and entering the capital, standing at the foot of the imperial city, did she lightly stamp her foot to shake off the snow on her phoenix-embroidered shoes, take a deep breath of the cold air, and sigh, "I'm back!"
The capital city has indeed not changed much. Although it is not as magnificent as Nanjing, it is still spacious and expansive. It was evening, and I wondered which family was celebrating a wedding. Thousands of fireworks were blooming in the sky above Xizhi Street.
Qian Yingyi ran over with a grin and looked around for a while. She walked along the streets that were both unfamiliar and familiar. Memories that had been dormant for many years gradually became clear. She jumped for joy and pulled Qin Lizheng all the way home.
She wore a light pink long coat with a begonia-patterned vest over it. The vest was adorned with a circle of fur, and with the first snow falling in the capital, she looked rather thin.
She had been wearing a fluffy cloak, which she took off and tossed to Qin Lizheng as she ran, panting. The closer she got to home, the more radiant her flushed face became. She turned back and waved to Qin Lizheng, panting, "Hurry up and keep up!"
So she followed her memory and ran into Liubi Hutong. In the distance, she saw two figures standing under the familiar plaque of her own house. She recognized one of them as her father, and the smile on Qian Yingyi's face grew even wider.
At this moment, she was no longer in a hurry. She quietly slowed her pace and moved little by little toward the other side, preparing to give her father a surprise.
Standing below the Qian residence was Qian Jinnian, a tall and slender man with a face that bore a slight resemblance to Qian Yingyi. He was refined and cultured, wearing an amber-colored cloak over a dark black robe with grape patterns, and a jade pendant hanging from his waist.
He was speaking to the figure beside him with a smile, "Haha, Lord Yu, are you joking with me? Your youngest son really likes Yingyi? Strange, they've never even met! Your eldest son, Yu Cheng, seems to me to be the perfect match. Let Yingyi marry into your family..."
Yu Hou pondered his youngest son's words for a moment, then said, "He was talking about playing with Yingyi on the street when they were little."
Qian Jinnian hummed in agreement and pondered, “If that’s the case, then the two sisters will have each other’s company. Speaking of which, the old man’s letter was delivered to the house this afternoon, and I haven’t read it yet. I’ll urge him to come back when the year is almost over. Yingyi should be back by now. Sigh, you don’t know her. She’s very stubborn. We’ll have to wait until she comes back to discuss this matter.”
Lord Yu, with a kind face and a ramrod-straight back, smiled upon hearing this and said, "My dear in-law, isn't it good that we're related by marriage?"
"not good!"
Suddenly, Qian Yingyi ran to the front of the Qian residence in a fit of anger, stepped onto the three stone steps, and her bright eyes were filled with anger.
Because she did not return to the capital when Qian Yuxing got married, she felt no sense of closeness when she saw this completely unfamiliar Yu Hou. She simply curtsied properly and then stomped her foot in front of Qian Jinnian, "Father, I didn't say it well, did you hear me!"
Qian Jinnian was extremely surprised. After a long while, he laughed and pulled her in front of him, looking her up and down. "My dear, when did you come from Jinling? How come you didn't tell your father at all!"
"Oh dear, Father! Are you even listening to me?" Qian Yingyi had no time for reminiscing and hurriedly said, "I will never marry into the Marquis's mansion."
Yu Hou glanced at her sideways and asked with a smile, "Is this Yingyi?"
Out of politeness, Qian Jinnian gave Qian Yingyi a subtle warning and said gently, "What kind of girl keeps saying 'marry' on her lips? Whether or not to marry, we can discuss it later."
Qian Yingyi circled around Qian Jinnian twice, her eyes then darting to Yu Hou. When she glanced at Qin Lizheng, she abruptly stepped down the stone steps, grabbed his hand, and waved it at Qian Jinnian from a distance, saying, "Father, I have someone I want to marry! I want to marry him! I will only marry him!"
Qian Jinnian's expression immediately changed. Seeing her holding a man's hand in public, and that man being the commander of the Imperial Guards serving the Emperor, he quickly scolded in a low voice, "Nonsense! You, you, you let go of me!"
In his haste, it's unclear whether he was telling Qian Yingyi to let go or Qin Lizheng to let go of his precious daughter's hand.
Who knew that his stern face would provoke Qian Yingyi's rebellious spirit? Upon returning home, she overheard her father discussing her marriage with Marquis Yu—who was this youngest son of the Marquis Yu? She had completely forgotten who he was! Even if he were breathtakingly handsome, she wouldn't want him! So, she went all out and suddenly jumped onto Qin Lizheng, shouting, "I won't!"
Qin Lizheng hurriedly caught her, somewhat surprised, and watched as she cupped her face in her hands and kissed him heavily. Then, she said to her father, word by word, "I want to marry him!"
"Mother! Hurry, let's go out and buy some of the little trinkets that my sister used to like," Qian Linye's voice came from inside the house, with a hint of laughter and urgency, getting closer and closer. "Grandpa said in his letter that my sister is traveling by water, and she should arrive tomorrow!"
The next moment, the beautiful woman and Qian Linye suddenly appeared.
A silence fell over the Qian residence; even the servants sweeping snow hunched over and hid behind the pillars. Qian Jinnian stared at Qian Yingyi in astonishment, pointing at her with his finger, speechless for a long while.
Qian Linye was stunned for a moment, a bewildered thought racing through his mind—was it his sister? How did his sister come back?
Upon seeing his sister clinging to Qin Lizheng, Qian Linye blinked and roared, "Qian Yingyi! Get down here!"
The beautiful woman was none other than Qian Yingyi's mother, Min Qin. Min Qin paused for a moment, then exclaimed, "My darling?"
Seeing that Qian Yingyi didn't move, Qian Linye angrily went forward and grabbed her, "What kind of behavior is this for a proper girl? Get down here, get down!"
"No!" Qian Yingyi hugged Qin Lizheng's neck tighter and tighter. "Brother, go ask Father! Father is going to marry me off to my brother-in-law's younger brother! I'm not coming down. If I had known this would happen, I shouldn't have come back. I'm going back to Jinling right now. I'm going back to Jinling to be with Grandpa and ask him to send me off to my wedding!"
Even though Qin Lizheng saw that the elders were all there, he found it quite difficult to pull her off him.
Unexpectedly, she became so stubborn when she got angry. Then he thought that she was doing this because of him. Qin Lizheng had no choice but to endure Qian Linye's glare and lead her to the bottom of the stone steps.
He then released her, letting her hang on him, and immediately cupped his hands in greeting, "Lord Qian, Madam Qian, Lord Yu."
Yu Hou was also slightly surprised, thinking to himself that his youngest son was a lively and unruly person. If he were to force his youngest son and Yingyi together, who knows how much chaos would ensue at home. So he chuckled awkwardly and looked up at the twilight sky. "Ha...haha, Yingyi, don't take it too seriously. Your uncle is just joking with your father. It's nothing, nothing at all."
Qian Yingyi looked up at Yu Hou, "Is what Uncle said true?"
Yu Hou laughed, "It couldn't be more real!"
Qian Yingyi then pursed her lips, gave a soft snort, jumped off Qin Lizheng, and bowed properly to Yu Hou again, saying, "Yingyi greets Uncle."
The next moment, Fu happily snuggled up to Min Qin's side, nuzzling her with a hint of coquetry, "Mommy, my sweetie's back."
Min Qin finally came to her senses, flicked her forehead a few times with her finger, and heard her feign a cry of pain. Then she chuckled and turned her gaze to Qin Lizheng, saying meaningfully, "Commander Qin, I heard that on your last trip to Jinling, while you were catching a corrupt official, you kidnapped my daughter. What do you have to say to me?"
Qin Lizheng had the same idea. He had planned to visit Qian Jinnian and his wife to apologize after Qian Yingyi was settled, but this unexpected turn of events led him to stand on the stone steps and bend over. "Of course we have something to say. It's cold outside, and Yingyi was covered in sweat running all the way home. If you have something to say, may we go inside and talk?"
Min Qin was naturally more perceptive than Qian Jinnian. Seeing his earnest attitude and concern for his daughter, her expression softened. She led Qian Yingyi into the house, leaving behind a single sentence:
"Son, please invite Commander Qin into the front hall."
