32 Jealousy (1)
Li Yaya is not someone who likes to post on WeChat Moments, mainly because she has nothing to share.
Jiang Yi took Li Yaya's phone and posted a photo of the two of them on his Moments. Li Yaya said nothing. Although she thought it was a bit childish to announce her relationship to the world by posting it on Moments, she was very happy to see Jiang Yi.
She also felt a little happy.
It was already late at night, and Li Yaya thought that everyone should be asleep. She didn't know how they would react when they saw her circle of friends tomorrow.
Li Yaya was right. They were almost all asleep, but there was one person who lost his mind the moment he saw the photo. He stared at it silently for a long, long time, zooming in and out, over and over again. That was Lin Jing. His face showed no sadness or joy, but his eyes were dull.
On New Year's Eve, Lin Jing had no interest in such festivals. He didn't like being in noisy crowds, or rather, the noise he wanted shouldn't come from them. He would rather go home, stay in the empty house, and enjoy the solitude and loneliness, and the longing.
He regarded this "self-torture" as a punishment for his cowardice.
As expected, Shao Lan found out that Lin Jing had met Li Yaya in Huanshan.
Lin Jing's control over Shao Lan had reached a point where he didn't care at all. He didn't care how she knew about his life trajectory, or whether she had spies around him or if there was something fishy going on around him.
It doesn't matter anymore.
He couldn't resist because it was meaningless.
His cowardice has led him to where he is today.
So, he didn't reply to Li Yaya's last WeChat message. He didn't know what to say. Should he feign a casual tone and say, "Okay, let's meet next time," or "Li Yaya, why don't you keep your promise again?" or—what else?
There's no point saying anything because he can't do it.
Shao Lan didn't say much about his encounter with Li Yaya this time. After he returned to Beijing, she quietly put him under surveillance and even restricted his card.
Lin Jing laughed at himself. It was unnecessary. How could he do anything? Would he dare? He didn't dare.
But he became more and more unsociable. Apart from attending classes, he would stay at home, in his room with the curtains closed, regardless of day or night.
His classmates naturally noticed something was amiss, but they couldn't say anything. They weren't close to him to begin with, and with his instructor's relationship in the way, it wasn't their place to "dictate" his behavior. They just couldn't help but discuss it privately.
The voices of those discussions could not reach Lin Jing's ears, but they could reach Zhao Ziyi's ears.
Countless times when she heard "Lin Jing", she would clench her fists, thinking of Li Yaya who had been so arrogant towards her. Why did she speak to her in that tone and look? Why! Was it because Lin Jing liked her?
She is a bar worker from a poor mountainous area. What is there for Lin Jing to like about her?
She had been following Lin Jing since her freshman year. Whether it was school activities or any other activities, as long as Lin Jing was there, she would definitely go. Even now, when she was studying for her master's degree, she always followed him no matter which professor he chose.
But he never looked at her straight in the eye once.
She has good looks, a good family background, and a good education. She has been the center of attention since she was a child, and there has never been a shortage of people chasing after her. But she just likes Lin Jing.
Through the noisy crowd, she looked at Lin Jing, who was sitting in the corner. She didn't know why. He had gradually become what he was today.
Is it because of that girl named Li Yaya?
On New Year’s Eve, the seniors in the same group organized a New Year’s Eve event together.
Lin Jing was invited repeatedly, but he refused. Finally, Fang Yuanzhou, the only classmate in the group who could talk to him, went to his house and forcibly pulled him out.
They booked a stand-alone party hall, so no matter how noisy it was, they would not be affected.
A group of people, music blaring, voices clamoring, only Lin Jing huddled in the corner of the sofa. This world is so annoying. After midnight, the group still showed no sign of leaving. So noisy.
Even though Lin Jing wasn't sociable and wasn't well-liked, whenever he showed up, people would rush to curry his favor. They didn't know the true nature of Lin Jing's family background, but he was the only one who could earn the professor's support, special attention, and constant smiles, even before he even started his first year of graduate school.
After school started, the teacher would bring him along for any project, competition, or evaluation related to his major. Whenever he was around, the teacher would only see him.
It would be a lie to say that I am not curious, envious or jealous.
Behind the scenes, they sneered at such people with connections, but in public, they had to flatter them. Human nature was like that. If someone was lucky enough to catch the young master's eye, it would be easy for them to get some of the credit.
So from time to time, a few people would appear in front of Lin Jing and exchange polite greetings.
Lin Jing saw through it but did not expose it, maintaining his superficial decency.
Until he saw this photo—jealousy flooded his entire body. If they had been pretending to be boyfriend and girlfriend at first, now the pretense had become real. The joy and love in this photo were so full that they were about to overflow from his phone. He was so jealous that he wanted to call Li Yaya right now and loudly ask her why.
But what is his position and qualifications?
He stared like that for who knows how long, until his drunken senior brother broke his fantasy.
A senior fellow in his third year of graduate school, constantly stuck on his thesis, grimaced and lamented daily. He'd drunk countless glasses, his body and mind long since separated. Like a puppet manipulated by alcohol, he stumbled with a stiff, uncoordinated rhythm as he approached Lin Jing, demanding a drink with his junior fellow fellow.
Lin Jing was already annoyed and didn't want to pay any attention to him, but he kept talking to himself, and the smell of alcohol coming out of his mouth made him want to vomit.
He stood up and was about to leave.
Just this standing up "angered" this senior brother.
When people are drunk, they often do things they subconsciously want to do but can't do due to their conscious self-control. Their tightly held social etiquette and rational defenses completely collapse, leading them to say what's been hidden deep in their hearts and do things so absurd they wish they had forgotten them the next day.
He grabbed Lin Jing who was about to leave and said, "After all, I am your senior brother. Are you so disrespectful to me? I know your family is well-off. Isn't it just that you were born into a good family and have good parents? Why do you pretend all the time?"
Lin Jing took a look at the hand that was holding his arm and felt it was a bit dirty.
Just when people are full of anger and have nowhere to vent, they run into the trap.
Lin Jing defensively grabbed the opponent's arm. Under normal circumstances, Lin Jing might not be able to resist this overweight senior brother, but now, his anger faced with the opponent's drunken state actually made the opponent stagger and fall to the ground.
The people around were startled by the noise. No one knew what had happened. When they paid attention, they saw someone falling to the ground. Lin Jing, who was standing nearby, was holding a wine bottle and smashing it hard at the person on the ground.
Glass shards were scattered all over the floor, and wine was spilled everywhere. Only then did the people around react and come to pull Lin Jing away.
Otherwise, if he continued to smash things like this recklessly, someone might die.
Lin Jing was pulled aside, breathing heavily, his hands cramping from the constant exertion. Lin Jing had never fought anyone since childhood, but now, even after venting his emotions, his hands couldn't stop shaking.
I don't know if it's because of tension or spasm.
The students gathered around, feeling somewhat bewildered. They definitely couldn't call the police in this situation, and there was no way to notify the teacher at this time. Especially since it was Lin Jing who had started the fight, no one spoke up, and the scene fell into silence for a moment.
Until someone stood up and said, "No matter what the cause of the incident is, at least send the person to the hospital first to see what the situation is. If the person is not injured, then everything will be fine."
Yes, as long as the person is fine, there is nothing that Lin Jing’s family can’t handle.
What's more, he will graduate in half a year, and the thesis issue is still with his teacher. How dare he, or what qualifications does he have to say anything?
A group of people sent the senior brother to the hospital, and the others were responsible for sending Lin Jing home.
Finally, Fang Yuanzhou and Zhao Ziyi sent Lin Jing home together.
When they walked downstairs, Lin Jing grabbed Fang Yuanzhou and said, "Tell me tomorrow what happened to that person."
"Okay. Go back and have a good sleep. I'll take care of the rest. Don't worry."
"Yeah." With just one word, Lin Jing went upstairs.
From beginning to end, he didn't even look at Zhao Ziyi.
After Lin Jing left, Zhao Ziyi also chatted with Fang Yuanzhou for a few words, "Do you know what happened to him tonight?"
"I don't know. No one except himself probably knows what the reason is." Fang Yuanzhou is one of the few people who can find out even a little bit of Lin Jing's secrets.
There are some things that the parties involved are unwilling to talk about, and bystanders will never know.
"But aren't you familiar with him?" Zhao Ziyi still didn't give up.
"Comparatively speaking, I am more familiar with him. Therefore, and precisely because of this, I advise you not to waste too much time on him."
Lin Jing is a stubborn person. If he doesn't like someone, he won't like them no matter how good, beautiful, or wealthy you are.
Fang Yuanzhou didn't give Zhao Ziyi a chance to ask him any more questions before leaving. He still had to go to the hospital to see how his third-year graduate student was doing.
Then he has to contact the teacher at dawn. There is no way to hide this matter. The best solution is to notify the teacher and parents. They will naturally have adult methods to solve it, and he doesn't need to worry.
It would be better to think more about what happened to Lin Jing. Because he knew that although Lin Jing was distant from everyone, he was not the kind of person who would casually fight with others. There must be something going on.
