Chapter 10

"I didn't say it was him." Xie Lingqin's expression grew even colder as she pushed open the door and entered the room.

Xu Yiran wanted to push the door open and go in, but after thinking about it, she walked to the side instead.

Night falls.

Xie Lingqin sat by the window, looking at the crescent moon on the horizon, partially obscured by clouds, her eyes filled with a cold desolation. On the table beside her, a full table of dishes had long since gone cold.

"Squeak—"

Xu Yiran pushed open the door and entered. Her gaze fell on the cold food, and her eyes narrowed. "Is the food not to your liking?"

"No, it's because I have no appetite."

As Xie Lingqin spoke, she turned to look at Xu Yiran, "Why don't you eat with me? That way, I can feel a little warmer."

Are you cold?

The next moment, Xu Yiran flashed over and touched Xie Lingqin's forehead. After a moment, she breathed a sigh of relief and withdrew her hand. "Fortunately, you don't have a fever. I was always worried that you would catch a cold when you slept in the mountains."

Xie Lingqin smiled faintly, weak and pale, "It's alright, I'm in good health."

"Lvwu will be here soon. I'll have her check your wound and see if you need any more medicine."

As Xu Yiran spoke, she glanced at Xie Lingqin's fingers, which were casually resting on her knees.

Her hands were small, the backs of her hands were snow-white and translucent, and the once slender fingertips were now scarred, mottled to the eye, and touching them was heartbreaking.

Xu Yiran abruptly withdrew her gaze, stepped forward, and picked up the bowl of cold porridge.

"What’s wrong with you?"

Xie Lingqin asked.

"I'll heat it up, and once it's warmed up, I'll feed it to you."

"No need, my finger is much better now, I can eat by myself." Xie Lingqin smiled wryly as she took the porridge from Xu Yiran's hands. "See, there's no problem anymore, I'm not that delicate."

"But in my eyes, I wish I could do everything for you, while you just sit there and give orders."

Xie Lingqin was startled, and her eyelashes trembled slightly.

Green Beauty arrived at that moment.

Xu Yiran turned her back after seeing Xie Lingqin and Lü Wu go to the same room.

The room was quiet; it seemed that only the rustling of clothes and the soft sound of changing gauze could be heard.

"Don't worry, young master. Miss Lingqin's external injuries have almost healed. In a few more days, the bandages can be removed."

Lü Wu, probably worried that Xu Yiran would be concerned, said this as soon as she finished changing Xie Lingqin's medicine.

Xu Yiran seemed relieved, but then again, she didn't.

The external injuries have healed, but what about the internal injuries?

The toxins are still in my body.

Lü Wu was quite sensible. After leaving the inner room, she had the waiter come in and take the food away before she withdrew.

The door closed gently, and Xu Yiran stood there, motionless for a long time.

Xie Lingqin came out of the inner room and looked at him. "What's wrong?"

"I can always find an antidote to detoxify you."

Xu Yiran said this with a focused expression, but with even more regret.

Xie Lingqin wasn't in a hurry at all. She looked at Xu Yiran for a long time, then shifted her gaze to the window. "Xu Yiran, I want to rest early."

"Okay, I'll leave once you're asleep."

Xie Lingqin knew Xu Yiran's persistence, and with him around, she always felt warm.

Xie Lingqin didn't sleep soundly, tossing and turning for a long time before finally falling into a deep sleep.

Xu Yiran stared at Xie Lingqin's sleeping face for a long, long time, until the moon set behind the western mountains, before she went forward, closed the window, and quietly left the room.

Outside the window, as the wind blew, a figure seemed to flash by.

The next day.

Xie Lingqin woke up just as dawn was breaking.

Upon hearing the commotion, Lü Wu appeared. "Miss Ling Qin, you don't have any maids with you. What are your orders? I'll do it."

"No need, the waiter will bring hot water in a while. But go and call Xu Yiran. I want to take advantage of the daylight and go outside for a look."

"Young Master..."

Lü Wu seemed a little awkward.

"What happened to Xu Yiran?"

"Young master is cooking porridge for you in the kitchen."

Looking at Xie Lingqin, Lü Wu finally told the truth.

Xie Lingqin was slightly taken aback, "Does he really need to do something like cooking porridge? He's really..."

Xie Lingqin sighed, "Could you get me some hot water? I'll go take a look."

"yes."

Upon hearing this, Lü Wu became somewhat anxious and quickly fetched water for Xie Lingqin.

Dawn seemed to arrive in the blink of an eye. Xie Lingqin went down to the lobby on the first floor, where it was still relatively quiet.

When the waiter saw Xie Lingqin come down, he hurriedly stepped forward and said, "Please wait a moment, miss. Your brother's porridge isn't ready yet."

elder brother?

Oh right, they were pretending to be siblings.

"Where is your kitchen?" Xie Lingqin asked.

"Mom, that older sister's fingers are so ugly."

As soon as Xie Lingqin finished speaking, she heard a child's innocent voice behind her. Turning around, she saw a little girl of about five or six years old being led downstairs by her mother. They were obviously staying here as well.

"Oh, young lady, I'm so sorry, the child is just a little kid and was just frightened."

The mother walked over, looking somewhat embarrassed, but without any real sincerity.

Lu Wu frowned, but seeing that Xie Lingqin hadn't given any instructions, she didn't say anything more.

"Waiter, where's the kitchen?"

Xie Lingqin didn't seem to mind, and instead looked at the waiter.

The waiter, also looking like he didn't want to cause trouble, hurriedly said, "Miss, this way."

"Mom, didn't you say that ugly people shouldn't go out and scare people? Why did that woman go out and scare people?"

Just as Xie Lingqin turned around, the little girl's innocent voice rang out again behind her.

Xie Lingqin had already disguised herself, and now she was wearing a veil, so naturally no one could see her true face.
