Chapter 16 Barbarian Infighting

The barbarians under the night sky were like a silent lion about to unleash its fury, the wind blowing so hard that their faces felt as if they were being scraped by sand.

Ahead, screams erupted, and flames flickered like dazzling, yet agonizingly sharp blades.

An Shangning looked at Xie Lingqin with a worried expression, "Sister Lingqin, I can't give up on Shangyu."

"But given the current situation, you have nowhere to look for anyone. Let's retreat first."

Xie Lingqin glanced behind her, grabbed An Shangning, and quickly left the barbarian main camp.

It flew by.

Fourth Sister.

As soon as the group arrived at a mountain cave, a young girl came running out.

Gone is the arrogance and haughtiness of the past, replaced by a maturity beyond his years.

"Shang Yu, what are you doing here?"

"I ran away."

An Shangyu exhaled and said quickly, "That Zhuidamu didn't care about my life at all because he was busy with his own plans. So I took advantage of the time when Mingemu and the others came to cause trouble and ran away."

An Shangning looked at An Shangyu, seemingly lost in thought, and after a moment, waved her hand, "It's alright, it's good that you're alright."

Afterwards, the group met up with An Shangning's men on a hilltop.

The moon sets over Zhongshan Mountain, and gusts of mountain wind blow from all sides, seemingly stirring up a cloud of sand and dust that falls on people's faces.

Xie Lingqin coughed lightly, glanced around, and then her gaze fell on An Shangning, who was staring blankly at the sky not far away. She then walked over and asked, "What are you thinking about?"

An Shangning suddenly snapped out of her reverie, looked at Xie Lingqin, and gave a slight wry smile, "I wasn't thinking about anything, Sister Lingqin. Are you all alone? Where's Xu Yiran?"

“Xu Yiran is a smart man. He knows I will come looking for me if I go missing. However, with his skills, he can easily find out that I am not here. Therefore, he will take good care of himself.”

"Sister Lingqin, are you going to join Xu Yiran and the others?"

"You already know the answer in your heart."

Xie Lingqin did not answer, but sighed softly.

An Shangning was startled by the sound. When he met Xie Lingqin's indifferent gaze in the darkness, his pupils contracted and his heart skipped a beat.

She understood what Xie Lingqin meant.

"I see."

An Shangning suddenly exhaled.

“You and I both know Zhuidamu’s methods. If he really wanted to use Shang Yu to threaten me, Shang Yu wouldn’t have been able to escape. Moreover, no one stopped us as we came out of the main camp. We just happened to have killed Qinhemu and run out of the tent when we saw Zhuidamu and his men fighting.”

After An Shangning finished speaking, she exhaled, her expression elegant, but her eyes were dark. "He did it on purpose to make me leave... Actually, I didn't expect it either."

"I didn't expect that either."

Xie Lingqin stood with her hands behind her back, gazing at the sky. "The fighting is fierce there right now, and no one knows who will be the final victor. What do you want to do?"

"Sister Lingqin".

An Shangning shook his head and sighed softly, "Didn't you say that the oriole is unaware of the mantis behind?"

Ask your heart, what do you want to do?

"Oh……"

A hint of surprise and confusion suddenly appeared in An Shangning's eyes. "Sister Lingqin, I thought that you would no longer believe in love."

"I just don't believe in my love." Xie Lingqin patted An Shangning's shoulder. "Thank you for not asking me. I was wrong. I shouldn't have ignored you and insisted on my own way with Yuwen Yao. I regret it now."

An Shangning remained silent, her elegant and aloof face etched with sadness.

"And now, along my journey, how many lives have I taken, what hatred and mission have I carried? It's all beyond my control." Xie Lingqin gazed at the sky, a bitter smile playing on her lips. "The heavens want to destroy me, so why can't I fight back?"

Xie Lingqin looked at An Shangning and said, "I just hope that whatever decision you make, you won't regret it."

An Shangning's eyelashes trembled slightly, her eyes filled with complex emotions, and her lips turned pale. "But even if I help Zhuidamu, what then? He is cruel by nature. Those legends are not false. The women who died at his hands..." An Shangning closed her eyes. "His brutality is real. How could I dare to try it so easily?"

"Ask your heart. Even now, I still feel that if you don't try, how will you know if something is good or bad? Regret is the hardest thing to accept."

Xie Lingqin patted An Shangning's shoulder, then turned around and said, "It's windy here, I'm going to take shelter."

As An Shangning watched Xie Lingqin's figure gradually disappear from his sight, his heart tightened with each passing moment.

That day in Beirong Capital, she tried to persuade her with all her heart, but she refused to give up and desperately believed in Yuwen Yao. Whenever he was mentioned, her eyes would light up with a brilliant starlight. Now, she is still stubborn, her back straight, slender yet unyielding against the heavens. Her eyes, her eyes have not changed, but the exceptionally bright starlight in them is no longer there. She didn't understand it then, but now she understands it to some extent.

However, even though she was so badly injured, she still considered her feelings. Now, with such a good opportunity to seize power from the barbarians, she still left the decision to her.

The evening breeze falls, the winter wind breaks, the wind blows less, dishevels the hair, the eyes gaze intently, and with one stroke, someone draws the horizon.

When Xie Lingqin looked back again, An Shangning was nowhere to be seen.

They say that feelings grow over time.

If An Shangning could tame the brutal heart of Zhuidamu, wouldn't it be the same to keep the barbarians under control?

Am I despicable?

Xie Lingqin suddenly murmured, and a person walked out from behind her, "You're just going with the flow and giving An Shangning another chance to choose."

Xu Yiran watched Xie Lingqin's retreating figure, her eyes filled with pain.
