Chapter 2: This retribution, was it satisfying?

If she gets out, will it just mean death? Probably not. The repercussions will be far more extensive. Just how she survived is an inextricable issue.

For some reason, even though the toxins in her body had clearly subsided, she felt completely weak and had no strength at all.

"I can't watch them die." In the dim light, Xie Lingqin finally said, and then she crawled out, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed by someone.

Xie Lingqin turned around, her face filled with surprise, "Nan..."

"Let's go first."

"Those beggars."

"There are nearly five hundred Imperial Guards outside. Can you defeat them?"

Xie Lingqin closed her eyes; she was no match for him.

Nan Fenghuang and the second prince of Nan Qi immediately pulled Xie Lingqin and Tridacna over the wall.

Almost the instant they disappeared, the courtyard gate was kicked open, and Qi Rufeng led his men in.

From afar, Xie Lingqin saw that the once bustling street of beggars was now filled with corpses.

In the very center lay the old beggar who had helped her, and beside him lay his grandson, whom he had desperately tried to protect but could not save.

The old beggar looked in her direction, his face showing such contentment and peace.

"Lord Qi, there's nothing here. It seems there really is nothing unusual about this place."

"Forget it, it was just a bit of coercion. If they're not going to come, then forget it."

"And these corpses..."

"Get rid of it."

"yes."

As the voices came over, Xie Lingqin's veins bulged with hatred.

Qi Rufeng hadn't discovered anything; it was just a test, yet it cost these innocent people their lives.

Qi Rufeng!

"Don't be sad. Qi Rufeng has been committing violence and bloodshed in the capital. He will get his comeuppance eventually."

Nan Fenghuang said, but when she turned her head to look, she found that Xie Lingqin had already fainted. She hurriedly helped her up.

When Xie Lingqin woke up again, she was in a...

"Is this Jinhua Restaurant?"

Xie Lingqin had been here before and was familiar with the layout.

Nan Fenghuang, dressed in a blue robe as an ordinary woman, nodded and said, "Yes, it's not the number one room, but an ordinary room, so it doesn't arouse suspicion."

"Didn't you leave? Why are you still in the capital?"

Xie Lingqin asked urgently, unaware of how pale her face was. When she was unconscious, Nan Fenghuang changed her dressing and couldn't help but tremble when he saw her fingertips.

“We are worried about you, and besides, I… Second Brother insists you are not dead,” Nan Fenghuang said. As soon as she finished speaking, the door quietly opened and Nangong Feng walked in. He was still wearing a hood and was carrying a bowl of chicken soup, which he placed next to Xie Lingqin. “Drink it quickly. I made it myself, so there won’t be any problems.”

"Second brother..."

Nan Fenghuang seemed surprised, even shocked, by Nangong Feng's words and actions.

"Why are you making such a fuss? In these extraordinary times, what's wrong with me making chicken soup?"

"Yes, yes, it's nothing. Second brother, you've always been kind-hearted and good at cooking."

Nan Fenghuang looked away, her eyes filled with suspicion.

"What about giant clam shells?"

"She's better than you; she's in the next room, so don't worry."

"Are those beggars... all dead?"

Nan Fenghuang paused for a moment, then nodded.

"Do you have any contact with Yu Qingyi?"

Nan Fenghuang shook her head. "Right now, everyone thinks we've left Beirong Capital."

“But if you don’t leave, the whole city is under martial law, and it will be very difficult for you to get out.”

Xie Lingqin closed her eyes slightly. "Thank you."

"No need to thank me, aren't we friends?"

Nangong Feng patted Nan Fenghuang on the shoulder, "Let's go, let's go out first and let her rest well. We can also discuss how to leave the capital safely."

Nan Fenghuang and Nangong Feng left, and the door slowly closed.

Xie Lingqin's eyes, which she had just closed, suddenly opened. Then, she struggled to sit up, put on her shoes, took a few steps, turned back, looked at the steaming chicken soup placed by the bed, picked it up, and ate it all in one gulp.

After drinking the warm soup, she suddenly realized that she was truly alive.

Then, Xie Lingqin gently opened the window.

As soon as it was opened, a head popped out.

Tridacna shell?

“Miss, I knew you were going to leave secretly. You would rather implicate anyone else than implicate Nanqi, right? If this is taken seriously, the problem will become very serious.”

Tridacna looked at Xie Lingqin, whose complexion had improved somewhat, though her lips were still pale. She continued, “I’ve looked around. Once we climb over this path, we’ll find a secluded alley. Turn right ahead, and we’ll enter Sanliu Jiuxiang. There are many people there, so even if we’re discovered, it won’t be easy to investigate. That’s the time we can use to contact Xu Yiran.”

Xie Lingqin followed the giant clam's gaze and glanced around. "You did a good job with your homework."

"The young lady taught me."

Xie Lingqin and Chequ left Jinhua Tower together and traveled far away. Just as Chequ had predicted, they entered Sanliu Jiuxiang and, coincidentally, hid in the place where Lanxiang had lived before.

As luck would have it, Liu Yunzhou was there.

And so, the three of them met face to face.

"Are you a human or a ghost?"

This was Liu Yunzhou's first greeting to Xie Lingqin, which startled Liu Yunzhou so much that he fell off his stool.

Xie Lingqin, who was initially extremely sad, felt a touch of warmth at this moment, "Have you ever seen a ghost as beautiful as this?"

"Ghosts all have very white faces."

As Liu Yunzhou spoke, he cautiously looked around before carefully examining Xie Lingqin, as if he had just come to his senses. "You're not dead, you're not dead, you're really not dead?"
