Chapter 3: Keep them alive

Xie Lingqin, carried on Xu Yiran's back, leaned on Xu Yiran's slightly sweaty shoulder and asked in a daze.

Xu Yiran was such a clean-cut man; even the corners of his robes were stained with dust, showing how much effort he had put into finding her.

"Almost all of the men we placed in the capital were wiped out."

Xu Yiran didn't answer, but Lü Wu did.

Xie Lingqin glanced at her. Her breath was already very weak, but she still forced a smile that was more like a grimace. "When the time comes, shall we make the Northern Emperor pay with his life?"

She said it so softly, but at that moment, Lvwu didn't speak, and Xu Yiran didn't reply.

Because they all knew that even if there was no murderous intent in her words, Xie Lingqin was definitely not joking.

"Xu Yiran, so many people have died. So many people died because of me. The maids and nannies of Qingshui Pavilion are dead, and those innocent beggars are dead too. I'm so scared, so scared..."

Suddenly, cold tears streamed down Xu Yiran's neck, soaking her clothes.

Xu Yiran's body trembled slightly.

This was the first time he had ever seen Xie Lingqin cry. She cried silently, but her tears were so cold, like a small stream flowing over his skin, making every cell in his body ache so much that he couldn't breathe.

"Xiao Qin, don't cry. No matter what, I'll always be here for you. I'll be with you, no matter where you are, whether it's the ends of the earth or the depths of the sea."

"Xu Yiran, please don't die, really, please don't die..."

"No, if you don't die, I won't die either."

Xie Lingqin had no idea how helpless she felt at that moment.

Xu Yiran was unaware of how gentle she was at that moment. A breeze blew by, and a tear seemed to fall from the corner of her eye.

Just as Lü Wu seemed to realize it, the illusion vanished instantly, as if it were merely a misperception.

This road wasn't long, but it felt like Xu Yiran was carrying Xie Lingqin for an entire century.

"Xie Lingqin, listen to me. I know you're in there. I'm only saying this: if you don't come out, you, this maid, will lose your life."

At this moment, from the outermost edge, came the voice of Qi Rufeng, amplified through his internal energy.

Xu Yiran paused, only to find that Xie Lingqin behind her did not react at all.

"Young Master, Miss Lingqin has fainted."

"I see."

Xu Yiran gently put Xie Lingqin down, letting Lü Wu watch over her, and then he walked outside.

"Young master, what do you want to do?"

"If she wakes up and finds out that the giant clam is gone, she will be very sad. She doesn't want to see the people around her die anymore, and I can't make her sad anymore."

Xu Yiran said softly, as gently as a breeze.

“But all of us left the city. In our search for Miss Lingqin, some died and some were wounded. You can’t go alone…”

Lü Wu wanted to stop her, but looking at Xie Lingqin who was unconscious beside her, she knew she couldn't stop her.

"If she doesn't come out soon, we'll have no choice but to collect her body."

Outside, the sounds resumed.

Luwu thought for a moment, then picked Xie Lingqin up and followed closely behind. "Young master, if something happens, do you think Miss Lingqin will be happy? She will feel even more guilty."

Xu Yiran looked at her, about to say something, when two figures flashed in the air and landed in front of them in an instant.

"you……"

"Stop talking. If you go out, you'll die. It's better for us to go out. With so many people watching, I don't think Qi Rufeng would dare to do anything to me, the princess of Southern Qi."

As Nan Fenghuang spoke, she strode out.

"don't want."

Xie Lingqin, who had just fainted, suddenly woke up. She stared at Nan Fenghuang's back, then looked at Xu Yiran, "It's not a giant clam."

It's not a giant clam?

Xu Yiran was stunned for a moment, then instantly understood.

Yes, if it were a giant clam, she would tell them not to come out, instead of remaining silent, because she was perfectly aware of the current situation.

He completely lost his composure.

"However, since Qi Rufeng is so eager to capture us, then let him capture us..."

Xie Lingqin leaned on Xu Yiran's shoulder, her breath weak, "Use your illusion magic..." "Reporting to my lord." At this moment, a voice came from outside.

Qi Rufeng swept his sword-like eyes over him, "Speak."

"His Majesty has decreed that Xie Lingqin be captured alive; she must not be allowed to die," the man said loudly, seemingly afraid that Qi Rufeng would disobey.

Qi Rufeng frowned. "You want them alive?"

"Yes, sir."

Inside the alley, Xie Lingqin and the others were also taken aback when they heard what was being said outside.

Previously, the Emperor wanted to kill her, so what happened that he now wants her to live?

I just want to know why she didn't die?

Not that bad.

Could it be that he wants to find out something else from her?

Xie Lingqin looked at Xu Yiran helplessly.

“I don’t believe it. It’s because Crown Prince Yuwen has had a change of heart.” Xu Yiran remained silent. Nan Fenghuang, however, spoke up but quickly stopped herself from saying anything.

“Of course, impossible.” Xie Lingqin leaned against Xu Yiran, her face desolate and forlorn. “Because he had no heart.”

Throughout the entire process, Nangong Feng remained silent, simply standing there with a stern and aloof expression.

The winter wind was biting, and suddenly everything fell silent.

Outside, it seemed as if there was not a sound at all.

"Miss..."

At that moment, the giant clam finally came over, its face covered in blood.

"This servant just fought with Qi Rufeng and then fainted after escaping."

Xie Lingqin held Tridacna's hand and said, "It's good that you're alright."

"Miss, your hand is bleeding again."
