Within the territory of Beirong, the winter wind was bleak.
On the seemingly endless road, two horses walked slowly side by side.
After settling her thousands of people in, An Shangning set off alone with An Shangyu.
"Fourth Sister, where should we look?"
"Go to Western Xia."
"Western Xia?"
An Shangyu was puzzled and added, "The Western Xia are not easy to deal with either."
"That day she fell off the snow cliff, I was the one who wronged her. Now that she is missing, I should find her as soon as possible and act carefully. Moreover, the Southern Qi and the Northern Rong have been fighting for many days, but the Western Xia has remained calm. It seems like they are indifferent, but upon closer inspection, it seems more like they are watching from the sidelines and waiting for an opportunity to act."
"I understand, Fourth Sister, you suspect that Western Xia is taking some action."
"Not necessarily. In any case, even if Nan Lingqin's disappearance has nothing to do with Xixia, the fact that Xixia has been completely silent for so long is enough to make people suspicious."
"That's true. I heard before that the Northern Emperor sent the Fifth Prince and Qin Xun to secretly try to win over Xixia. However, a month has passed and there is still no news."
"Let's go."
The sky was vast and the wilderness boundless. The two women, their clothes fluttering in the wind, spurred their horses and sped along the main road.
...
Also at Beirong.
A cabin in the woods.
Three days passed in a row. Nan Lingqin was so hungry that her stomach was sticking to her back. In addition, she had been hit by Yuwen Shi's palm earlier. Although her body had recovered somewhat over the past few days, she still looked extremely weak. At this moment, she was leaning against the couch without making a sound. She just stared blankly out the window, and occasionally, when Yuwen Shi looked over, she would say a few words to him in an almost sarcastic way.
From beginning to end, even when she was about to die, she remained as steady as a mountain, completely unmoved.
At this moment, the sun was setting, the door opened, and Yuwen Shi walked in, carrying a bowl of porridge in his hand.
The aroma of the porridge was enticing, carrying the fragrance of fresh bamboo.
It must be bamboo shoot porridge.
Nan Lingqin's eyelashes trembled slightly as she watched the handsome, ethereal man approach step by step.
"Ha, the Fifth Prince isn't planning on letting me starve to death?"
"I don't plan to. It would be pointless to starve to death."
Yuwen Shi placed the porridge aside, saying, "I cooked it myself."
"You definitely have to try it."
Nan Lingqin stepped forward, her hand about to touch the bowl, when a cold smile suddenly appeared on her lips, "It's poisoned."
Yuwen Shi looked at her. "No one will die. Anyway, I heard that your body already contains poison. One more poison or one less poison shouldn't make a difference." As Yuwen Shi spoke, he lightly rolled up his sleeves, walked to the side, and sat down calmly, his eyes holding a smile of indifference. "Then, would you like some?"
Nan Lingqin looked at the bowl of porridge, and after a moment, reached out and lifted it.
Her fingers were very white and very thin, as if they would break if you held them too tightly.
“Yuwen Yao should be finding this place soon,” Yuwen Shi suddenly said.
Nan Lingqin paused just as she was about to put the porridge in her mouth, but only for a moment before continuing to drink it.
"Smack—"
Before she could even put the porridge in her mouth, a flick of her sleeve sent a flash of blue light through the air, severing the spoon in her hand and the porridge she had been holding.
Suddenly, porridge and broken bowl fragments were scattered all over the floor, their jade-like whiteness almost blinding.
Nan Lingqin, however, acted as if nothing had happened, raising her eyes to look at Yuwen Shi, "So, you still plan to starve me to death?"
Yuwen Shi's hazy and ethereal gaze fell on Nan Lingqin, looking at her as if he wanted to tear off all her masks and see her clearly, but he gained nothing.
"Someone come here."
A short while later, Yuwen Yao called out to the door, and immediately a woman in green came in again with a bowl, which she respectfully placed in front of Nan Lingqin.
"Eat."
Yuwen Shi waved away the maidservant, looked at Nan Lingqin, and said in a displeased tone.
Nan Lingqin shrugged, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, but instead picked up the porridge and ate it spoonful by spoonful.
There seems to be a type of person in this world who, even when facing dire straits, still possesses an unyielding elegance and composure.
This elegance and composure seem to come naturally, as if it were innate, and it's impossible not to be captivated by it.
After finishing the bowl of porridge, Nan Lingqin gently put it down.
“No wonder he loves you so much.” Yuwen Shi suddenly sighed. “You two are really alike.”
"No, I'm not as despicable as him."
Nan Lingqin denied it, but the sarcasm between her brows was undisguised.
"He's despicable?"
Yuwen Shi suddenly smiled, "From a certain perspective, yes."
"My lord, the Crown Prince has arrived."
Just then, the maid who had spoken earlier came in to report.
Nan Lingqin's eyes narrowed slightly. Yuwen Shi, however, was not surprised at all, and simply smiled silently, "Earlier than expected, this is indeed very Yuwen Yao, you guessed it was me."
Almost as soon as Yuwen Shi finished speaking, Nan Lingqin heard that extremely familiar voice coming from not far outside the courtyard.
A voice so familiar that she could never forget it, even in death.
"Yuwen Shi, I want Nan Lingqin."
He said it with certainty and determination, his voice carrying through his inner strength and permeating the surroundings, making people's thoughts seem to be filled with his voice.
Yuwen Shi glanced at Nan Lingqin, then walked out.
That glance, Nan Lingqin felt, held a deeper meaning and profound significance, causing her to momentarily hold her breath.
"Hehe, you want Nan Lingqin? Your Highness the Crown Prince is really joking. How could the princess of Nan Qi be here with me?"
Yuwen Shi's voice rang out.
"Yuwen Shi, why should we continue this hypocritical back-and-forth dialogue?"
“She just went to sleep,” Yuwen Shi said.
Upon hearing this, Yuwen Yao seemed to relax for a moment. He looked into the room but spoke to Yuwen Shi, "I've said it before, she is the light in my life. I cannot tolerate anyone hurting her except me."
