Chapter 44: There is nothing

Upon hearing Liu Yunzhou's words, not only Xie Lingqin but also General Xie, who was sitting at the head of the table, was clearly taken aback. He abruptly stood up, looked at Xie Lingqin, and finally his gaze fell on Liu Yunzhou with a complicated expression.

"Young Master Liu, what do you mean by that?"

"I..." Liu Yunzhou hesitated for a long time before finally straightening his brows and bowing slightly to General Xie. "General Xie, there are no outsiders here, so I will speak frankly. Although I admire Miss Lingqin, it is only because I admire the general's wife's charm that I love her. I do not have any other feelings for Miss Lingqin. So please, Miss Xie, withdraw your affections."

Liu Yunzhou said these last words to Xie Lingqin.

That resolute yet evasive manner...

Xie Lingqin felt a sinking feeling in her heart.

What Liu Yunzhou said didn't seem to be entirely unfounded, so...

"Xie Lingqin!"

General Xie was naturally furious. His voice suddenly turned deep, and his gaze became piercing. "You are just this shameful."

Knowing the situation was right, Xie Lingqin understood that she was not yet powerful enough to talk back to General Xie. So, she slowly raised her head, looking fearful and confused, "Young Master Liu, you are a talented young man from a prestigious family. You should know that you must be responsible for your words and actions."

A blush crept onto Liu Yunzhou's handsome face. After a moment's consideration, he took out an opened letter from his sleeve and handed it to her.

"Miss Lingqin, you...see for yourself."

Xie Lingqin was about to take the letter when General Xie snatched it away, took it out and looked at it. His face immediately darkened.

"Smack."

He raised his hand and slapped Xie Lingqin, catching her completely off guard and leaving her ears ringing.

"Miss!" Zihe exclaimed in surprise, immediately stepping forward to support Xie Lingqin, angry but daring not to speak.

"General, please calm down."

Liu Yunzhou was clearly surprised by General Xie's action. He stepped forward, blocking Xie Lingqin, and cupped his hands to General Xie, saying, "General Xie, rest assured, this matter is known only to heaven, earth, you, and me. I will never tell anyone. I will take my leave now."

As soon as Liu Yunzhou finished speaking, he hurriedly tried to leave.

It felt like someone was chasing us from behind.

"Wait a moment."

Xie Lingqin suddenly spoke up to stop her.

Liu Yunzhou frowned, turned to look at Xie Lingqin, and shook his head, "Miss Lingqin, a man's ambition lies in all directions. I, Liu Yunzhou, am not thinking about matters of love and romance right now. You... should not have any more thoughts about me."

Oh……

Xie Lingqin rubbed her face, which was numb with pain, before calmly picking up the letter that General Xie had just thrown on the ground.

It's clear at a glance.

It was all her longing and love for Liu Yunzhou.

Every word and phrase was indeed written in the original owner's handwriting.

But……

"I didn't write this."

Xie Lingqin's voice was firm, and as soon as she finished speaking, General Xie, whose face was already dark, became even more furious. "Xie Lingqin, shut up! You..."

Xie Lingqin obediently took a step back and looked at Zihe, "Zihe, you talk to Father."

Upon hearing this, Zihe stepped forward, her eyes lowered in humility, and said, "General, this really wasn't written by Miss. You see, the handwriting on this letter suggests it was written recently. But, General, you may not know, but two days ago, Miss accidentally injured her hand while painting, making it difficult for her to write even a few words, let alone this..." As she spoke, Zihe helped Xie Lingqin up, "This servant originally advised Miss to tell the General about this matter, but Miss said it was just a small matter, and that the General was too busy to bother her."

As soon as Zihe finished speaking, General Xie frowned. Ignoring Liu Yunzhou's presence, he grabbed Xie Lingqin's wrist and rolled up her sleeve to take a look.

A glint flashed in his sharp eyes, then he seemed relieved.

There were indeed bruises on her slender, snow-white arm, and when he pulled her like that, Xie Lingqin was clearly in so much pain that she almost cried.

"this……"

Liu Yunzhou was pedantic but not stupid, and he immediately looked puzzled. "Then, doesn't that mean someone impersonated Miss Lingqin and wrote me a letter?"

Xie Lingqin ignored her and instead looked at General Xie.

Since someone has harmed her like this, she doesn't want to let this matter drop today.

“Father, this person who has slandered my reputation is truly treacherous. I beg you, Father, to do justice for your daughter.”

General Xie looked at Xie Lingqin's aggrieved appearance and then at her already swollen face, feeling somewhat guilty. He then turned to Liu Yunzhou and asked in a serious tone, "Young Master Liu, how did this letter end up in your hands?"

“It was given to me by a servant, and the servant gave it to me…” Liu Yunzhou rubbed his forehead, looking ashamed. “When I first saw the letter, I immediately felt that I couldn’t accept Miss Lingqin’s favor, and I didn’t think about this at all…”

Of course you didn't think of that.

With your pig brain, all you know is the Four Books and Five Classics.

Xie Lingqin suppressed her anger.

She should stay away from Liu Yunzhou in the future; there's no need to teach him to be smart.

"I will definitely investigate this matter thoroughly when I return to my residence. Well then, I'll take my leave." Liu Yunzhou now realized the seriousness of the matter and finally belatedly understood how impulsive and rude he had been. With his head down, he bowed apologetically to Xie Lingqin and left.

Seeing Liu Yunzhou leave, General Xie's gaze finally fell on Xie Lingqin, and he asked, "Have you offended anyone?"

"Father, I have always stayed in the manor and have not stepped out. How could I possibly offend anyone?"

Xie Lingqin's gentle response left General Xie speechless for a moment.

Yes, Xie Lingqin hasn't left the manor at all; she's only just recovered from her cold, so it's even more impossible.

In other words, the person behind this frame-up is most likely someone from the General's Mansion...

Let General Xie figure out who it is.

"Father was concerned that his daughter was so angry just now. Now that I've regained my senses, I'll take my leave."
