Chapter 49 A Marriage Contract

Nan Lingqin bit her lip. "Your Highness, I... am attracted to women and dislike men."

"I'm not going to sleep with you, I just wanted you to come over here."

Yuwen Yao said, his thick eyelashes slightly lowered, revealing an unparalleled air of passion.

Nan Lingqin's breath hitched.

The room was brightly lit, illuminated by the luminous pearl as if it were daytime. The pearl's radiance shone on Yuwen Yao's jade-white face, making it appear like the finest mutton-fat jade, tempting one to reach out and touch this exquisitely beautiful face.

Nan Lingqin stood still, but her heart seemed to be beating faster. That strong heartbeat seemed to be awakening something. Some memories that she had been deliberately suppressing suddenly flashed before her eyes like a movie slideshow.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew in front of her, catching her off guard and propelling her forward.

With a soft thud, Nan Lingqin fell straight down. If she hadn't reacted quickly, grabbing Yuwen Yao's arm with one hand and bracing herself on the soft couch with the other, she would have fallen quite a bit.

"Yu Wenyao!"

Nan Lingqin finally lost her temper at that moment.

If she still can't see it by now, she's going to be a fool.

She suddenly looked up and met those phoenix eyes so close to hers, filled with fury. "Do you think this is funny?"

Seeing you jealous made me feel like everything had gone back to the past.

"Don't pretend here. You stick to your own way, I'll go my own way, we're not related."

"Then why did you come to the Crown Prince's residence?"

He asked, his eyes burning, unblinking, with a tenderness like pouring water and a fiery passion, containing a vast ocean and an endless sky, and in the very center, reflected her.

"Why did you recognize me?"

Nan Lingqin lowered her voice; she couldn't understand this problem.

"Because it's you."

"you……"

"Your Highness, the Emperor Emeritus just sent a letter from the palace, saying that he has something urgent to discuss with you and that you will regret it if you don't go."

The voice that draws people in always appears at the most inopportune times, yet it's impossible to refuse.

Yuwen Yao's eyelashes fluttered, and he suddenly stood up, straightening his clothes as if nothing had happened. Reaching the doorway, he turned back to Nan Lingqin, saying, "Right here, wait for me to return." His voice seemed suddenly hoarse.

Why should I wait for you?

Nan Lingqin looked at her coldly.

"You brought it up yourself."

Yuwen Yao's words seemed to carry a hint of malice, and even though he tried to avoid making it seem deliberate, they still caught Nan Lingqin's eye.

The door closed.

Nan Lingqin stood up from the soft couch. "Yuwen Yao, who do you think you are? Who do you think I, Nan Lingqin, am, to come when called and go when summoned?"

Nan Lingqin opened the door, making a move to leave, but then she saw Tingyu appear.

"You can't stop me."

Nan Lingqin was dressed in a servant's clothes, but she had changed back to her original face. She looked at Tingyu with a cold and aloof aura.

"Miss Lingqin, I only wish to take you to one place."

Listening to the rain, she slightly bowed.

"I'm not going."

Nan Lingqin refused.

"Please trust me, Miss Lingqin. As long as you go, you will definitely get the answer."

"The answer? Don't I already know? Your master's life is tied to the Emperor's, and your master has long been prepared to die. As for me, he arrogantly arranged what he thought was an excellent path for me."

The temple's mockery and sarcasm were incredibly amusing to Nan Lingqin.

“No.” Tingfeng shook his head. “Miss Lingqin, there are some things I think you need to know.”

Nan Lingqin lowered her eyes, her expression hardening. "Then will you die?"

Seeing Tingyu's bewildered expression, Nan Lingqin continued, "Last time, Zihe told me some things I didn't know. She was afraid of the backlash of her vow, so she committed suicide in front of me."

Nan Lingqin looked at Tingyu, "Although we're not particularly close, I don't want you to die."

Tingyu was touched, but her posture became even more respectful. "Miss Lingqin, no, at most she will be punished by the Emperor and imprisoned."

"Then go ahead."

"This way, miss."

Tingyu led Nan Lingqin to a locked room, but with a flick of her sword, the lock fell off and the door opened.

What's in this room?

"Miss Lingqin, you'll see when you go inside."

Nan Lingqin glanced at Tingyu, and after a moment, pushed open the door and entered.

Suddenly, the wind rustled the Xuan paper.

Bright and radiant, the entire room was covered with portraits of her face.

"Your subordinate shall step down."

Tingyu has left.

Nan Lingqin looked at everything in the room.

The first portrait is dated, each day from the moment she left Beirong, every single day…

Lifelike and vivid.

The closed ocean in her heart seemed to suddenly open. Nan Lingqin sat by the dressing table, which was exactly the same as the one she had when she lived in the General's Mansion.

As I gently stroke it, it's as if the past years are appearing before my eyes one by one.

Nan Lingqin's gaze settled on the drawer. Suddenly, she reached out and pulled it open. The contents inside were different from before. There was a small, purple box inlaid with gold thread lying quietly inside. It looked exceptionally precious. The box was unlocked and opened with a gentle lift.

Inside, there was only a piece of paper lying quietly.

A piece of paper, slightly yellowed with the passage of time, yet still well-preserved.

Nan Lingqin's eyelashes suddenly twitched, and she picked up the paper with two fingers.

Upon opening it, it turned out to be a marriage certificate.

The one he was to marry was Yuwen Yao, and the one he was to marry was... Nan Lingqin.

On a small piece of paper, each piece is written clearly and full of deep emotion.
