The newcomer was Xu Yiran, dressed in white with a moonlit glow. Facing Yuwen Yao's ink-dyed elegance, she suddenly felt a touch of melancholy.
"Yuwen Yao, if you die, she won't be happy."
"She will gradually forget. After all, I have done so many things that she dislikes. Just the fact that I drugged her just now is enough for her to hate me more than the day I burned her. So, she will hate me."
"Don't you feel bad about torturing yourself like this?"
"It's painful, but I'm going to die anyway."
Xu Yiran's eyes flickered slightly as she reached out and took Nan Lingqin from her. She was sleeping like a baby, her thick eyelashes casting shadows, as if she were oblivious to the world around her.
"She hasn't slept so peacefully in a long time."
"It's fragrant wood seeds, I carefully blended it. I know she hasn't been sleeping well these days, this fragrance will help her sleep for a few days without any aftereffects."
As Yuwen Yao spoke, his gaze never left Nan Lingqin's face for a moment. After a while, he smiled bitterly, "From now on, if she is doing well, then she is doing well."
Xu Yiran looked at Yuwen Yao, wanting to say something, but ultimately didn't. In the next instant, she had already disappeared with Nan Lingqin.
The window was half open, and hundreds of flowers in the courtyard swayed in the wind, but only one plum tree bloomed brightly and beautifully.
Not far from the courtyard, Yuwen An appeared at an inopportune moment, standing there with an unprecedented emptiness and loneliness on his usually cold and gloomy face.
...
Northern Rong Capital.
One day later, at night, Nan Lingqin woke up in an inn.
The cloud technique within her body was sublimating, making her constitution different from ordinary people. Xu Yiran was obviously very surprised to see that she woke up earlier than expected.
"He handed me over to you."
It's not a question; it's an affirmative statement.
Xu Yiran put away the book she was reading, her clear eyes flickered for a moment before landing on her, "Hmm."
"Ha! Does he think he's so great? I haven't even said I wanted to stay away from him, or that he forcibly kissed me, hugged me, or kissed me. Why does he have the nerve to push me away with this self-righteous excuse that he thinks it's for my own good? Who does Yuwen Yao think he is?"
Nan Lingqin grew angrier as she spoke, and suddenly slammed her palm down on the bed.
"boom--"
The bed collapsed, and the house fell down.
With a loud bang, if Xu Yiran hadn't dodged quickly while holding Nan Lingqin, the two of them would probably have been killed here.
"Oh, what happened...?"
"The inn has collapsed..."
"This...there was no thunder in broad daylight..."
The murmurs behind them faded into the distance as Xu Yiran led Nan Lingqin to a stop in a small grove of trees.
“I left some silver at that inn; any smart person wouldn’t cause any trouble.”
Xu Yiran said that she wanted to reassure Nan Lingqin.
Nan Lingqin glanced at him, her eyes no longer gentle, but filled with annoyance. "How come you've become Yuwen Yao's accomplice now? Helping him deal with me, conspiring with him to take me away?"
"Xiao Qin!"
Xu Yiran, a man who was always as gentle and refined as the wind, was now filled with anger. "In this world, even if your father, the Southern Emperor, wanted to help him, I wouldn't. You know best."
Nan Lingqin has really hit Xu Yiran's sweet spot.
Seeing Xu Yiran taking it so seriously, Nan Lingqin's anger subsided. Looking at Xu Yiran, her emotions calmed down, and she sighed, "Xu Yiran, I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault."
"You always forgive me so easily, it will make me get used to getting angry with you."
You won't.
Nan Lingqin's eyelashes fluttered, and she lowered her gaze slightly. "Xu Yiran, did you already know that Yuwen Yao once used cloud magic to seal my memories?"
“I thought of it a few days ago. Otherwise, given that he broke into the Heavenly Mystery Hall at the age of eight, it would have been impossible for him not to go to the Heavenly Mystery Hall later to destroy everything about the Yun Clan.”
As Xu Yiran spoke, her thick eyelashes lowered, concealing a layer of darkness in her eyes. She curled her fingers, hiding her regret in her heart.
If he had appeared in front of Xiaoqin sooner, if he had been there sooner...
“Xu Yiran, tell me, how ridiculous it is, after all this time, we've ended up like this, and yet I still love him so much, so deeply, I can't forget him.”
Looking at the full moon on the horizon, Nan Lingqin laughed at her own indecisiveness and lack of resolve in the night.
Clearly, I hated him so much. Clearly, I hated him so much.
"I love him, that's undeniable. Back then, when he went mad and slaughtered hundreds of people to save me, I wasn't thinking about how Southern Qi would attack Northern Rong or how I would trample him under my feet. What I was thinking was... I was willing to give up the rest of my life to exchange for that one moment when his brow relaxed."
Xu Yiran paused for a moment.
This was the first time in a long time that Xiaoqin had truly opened her heart to him.
So, he was too late.
Because of his lateness, Xiaoqin was able to see through her own heart.
If he had arrived earlier that day, perhaps...
Everything is different now.
Xu Yiran ultimately lacked the courage to ask, afraid of hearing an answer that would make him lack even the courage to stay by her side.
"This is the news that Minglan sent after returning to the Xue family."
A moment later, Xu Yiran turned her head, composed herself, and handed the letter to Nan Lingqin.
Nan Lingqin opened it and her expression changed slightly.
"Also, Zhuidamu is leading his men toward Beirong, presumably to search for news of An Shangning, but his arrival will surely cause more trouble."
"He only wanted to find An Shangning. He only realized how much he had lost her. That's the Zhuidamu we know now, unlike Yuwen Yao, who has a brain like a pig."
Nan Lingqin seemed to get extremely angry whenever Yuwen Yao was mentioned. She unconsciously raised her hand and touched her lips, becoming even more furious.
“He loves you.” Xu Yiran had no choice but to speak up for Yuwen Yao.
