Chapter Eighteen: Reversing the Trap

The tone was light and casual, but the sudden, chilling aura caused Aunt Wan's expression to change. Her eyes flickered for a moment, then her face hardened, and she no longer tried to hide anything. "What does this mean, Miss? Could it be that you want the General to know about this? You have never been favored in this mansion. If the General finds out and reopens the investigation of today's events, you will be in deep trouble."

"So you think I poisoned Granny Yang?"

Aunt Wan's eyes twitched. "No matter who it is, once this letter gets out, you won't be able to escape."

Upon hearing this, Xie Lingqin smiled slightly, then glanced around before casually glancing behind Aunt Wan. "Today, Aunt Wan, you didn't even bring a single maid with you?"

Aunt Wan, however, didn't panic at all. Instead, she found it quite amusing. "Could it be that Miss, you intend to do something to me?"

Xie Lingqin gently shook her head, her starry eyes slightly curved, looking very calm and composed. "No."

As she spoke, Xie Lingqin took a few steps forward, getting closer and closer to Aunt Wan. Aunt Wan couldn't help but take a step back because of the chilling aura. Only then did Xie Lingqin lean forward slightly and whisper, "Aunt Wan, you're so scheming. Don't you know how to do something for the child in your womb?"

The voice was soft, the words cold; both the words and the tone were like venom seeping into one's heart and bones, making one feel as if covered in ice from head to toe.

Aunt Wan trembled, her lips turned pale, and all trace of her smile vanished. She took several steps back, stammering, "You...you..."

Xie Lingqin straightened up without even lifting her eyelids. "Tell me, given your current status in the General's Mansion, what would happen if Second Madam found out you were pregnant?"

Almost subconsciously, Aunt Wan shook her head, her face pale, and carefully placed one hand on her lower abdomen.

“So…” Xie Lingqin took another step forward, her face displaying a smile as gentle as a spring day, but her tone was as sharp as the depths of winter.

That sudden sense of danger forced the second concubine to retreat again, her face turning deathly pale. "You... what do you want to do..."

"Give me the letter." Xie Lingqin slowly spread out her hand.

Aunt Wan looked at Xie Lingqin as if she didn't recognize her at all. After a long while, she gritted her teeth, took out the letter from her sleeve, and handed it over, "Miss..."

"Considering how readily you sent the letter, rest assured, today I'll pretend you never appeared before me, and I know nothing about it." Xie Lingqin smiled coldly, then beckoned to Zihe and walked towards Qingfeng Pavilion.

Only behind her, Aunt Wan, drenched in cold sweat, stood forlorn in the autumn wind.

Zihe had walked a few steps when she turned back to look at Aunt Wan, her eyes filled with sympathy.

It's no wonder the young lady was disappointed that she was so frightened by just one glance from her.

"No need to look. With Aunt Wan's cowardice, unless she finds a new patron who can guarantee the safety of her unborn child, she won't dare to act rashly." Although she didn't turn around, Xie Lingqin's voice came softly, as if she knew what Zihe was thinking.

Zihe seemed to understand, "Previously, Miss asked me to deliberately leave that letter there so that Aunt Wan would find it, to test her, but I never expected..."

"I thought she would give me the letter and stand by me through thick and thin, so that in the future, if anything happened, I could protect her child's life. But instead, she chose to threaten me," Xie Lingqin said sarcastically.

Zihe nodded, but there was a hidden worry in her eyes. "But Miss, what if Aunt Wan goes to the General in a desperate move? Aren't you afraid..." Before Zihe could finish speaking, Xie Lingqin stopped and turned around gently, looking at her with a deep and meaningful gaze.

It's also a bit intimidating.

"Miss, this..."

"She's still young, after all. No matter how reserved she is, she still lacks composure." Xie Lingqin seemed to be sighing.

This is what I said...

Miss, you're only about half a year older than her.

"Please instruct me, Miss." After a moment, Zihe curtsied and bowed her head in request.

"What if the child in Aunt Wan's belly isn't my father's..." Xie Lingqu said, looking at Zihe's suddenly widened eyes when she raised her head, she smiled gently, turned around and continued walking forward.

We'll see what happens in time.

However, that second concubine was even more ruthless than she had imagined.

Yesterday, she had just encountered the Crown Prince and suddenly remembered this, so she went to check on Granny Yang's room. At that time, Granny Yang had already been poisoned.

Zihe followed closely behind Xie Lingqin. In that instant, she suddenly felt that the woman in front of her, who seemed frail and aloof, was like a deep, dark sea, impossible to see clearly.

They do look somewhat alike...

Like that high and mighty master.

---Aside---

I've been feeling really down these past few days. I've been bombarded with a barrage of wedding invitations, leaving me feeling weak, listless, and utterly exhausted. I need some comfort.
