Chapter Eighty-Seven: A Scheme Within a Scheme, Defeated, Defeated, Defeated

"Heh." Xie Lingqin scoffed coldly as a weight was already pressing down on her back.

Mr. Dong has already come up.

However, to Xie Lingqin's surprise, she had expected the old man to be heavy, but he was as light as a bag of rice.

Was he deliberately using magic to reduce his weight, or was he simply highly skilled in martial arts, with his lightness skill reaching an unparalleled level?

This Mr. Dong...

She actually developed some interest in him.

"Little girl, don't think nonsense. Back in the day, when I was young, I was pursued by countless young women." Old Dong stroked his short stubble, looking very confident.

Xie Lingqin silently rolled her eyes.

It's really enough that someone so old is still so narcissistic.

"Yes, I can imagine."

However, Xie Lingqin sincerely praised it.

She appears gentle, but in reality, every cell and every drop of blood in her body is cautious and wary. If this old man makes any inappropriate move, she will be able to strangle him to death in the shortest possible time.

Fortunately, everything is fine.

They had already reached the place where the sounds of fighting were coming from.

It was an abandoned mansion, with towering trees outside that almost covered the gate.

After putting down Elder Dong, Xie Lingqin used a nearby tree to leap onto the wall.

The fighting stopped at that moment, and for a brief moment, a stalemate ensued.

In the very center, the larger group is surrounding one person, while the other group is completely surrounded.

The dozen or so people who were surrounded were the very people from the Yama's Pavilion whom she had previously let go.

At this moment, not only the leader who had been injured by her earlier, but now, everyone was injured.

“Minglan, you should know the consequences of betraying the Yama Pavilion. If you continue to be so stubborn, you will only bring trouble to yourself and your brothers.”

"Hmph, stop spouting nonsense. What's so bad about our failed operation and our escape from the Underworld Pavilion? Back then, the Pavilion had already given instructions that once you leave, as long as you don't reveal the Underworld Pavilion's most important secrets, no one will be put to death. Besides, even with my position over the years, I don't know anything about the Underworld Pavilion's secrets. You're just making a big deal out of nothing, trying to get me to bring my brothers to join you. You just want to strengthen your power, make them your henchmen, and let them suffer for you."

"Our Yama Pavilion operates on the principle of taking money and solving problems for people; it's only right and proper."

"Don't you feel guilty saying that? You say I betrayed the Underworld, but in reality, you've been secretly accumulating wealth, kidnapping and killing people behind the scenes. You know in your heart who betrayed us."

"Minglan, don't accuse people without evidence, or I will really take the lives of your brothers. Right now, we have the upper hand." The man was clearly touched on a sore spot, and his tone was no longer negotiable, but rather filled with murderous intent.

Minglan was the leader whom Xie Lingqin had previously injured with a dagger.

Xie Lingqin looked at these people and understood.

This Minglan doesn't seem like someone who talks nonsense. It seems that the person opposite him had already betrayed the Yama Pavilion, and somehow intercepted Minglan and the others halfway through, trying to recruit them under the guise of righteousness. However, they are unwilling to go along with him.

"Zixiao, don't think I don't know how many deals you've made in secret. Weren't you the one who abducted the General's daughter outside the city today? It's said that when the Prince Xian and Prince Yi intervened, you lost more than a dozen men."

Ming Lan's eyes were bloodshot, his face resolute, and he showed no fear. "If this matter is reported to higher authorities, the Underworld will not let you off the hook. I don't want to do these things either. If you let us go today, we can both be at peace."

Upon hearing this, the young man named Zixiao's face darkened. "What if I don't want to?"

"Then let us fight to the death. My brothers and I will never again be used by others."

As Minglan spoke, he took a step back and raised his right hand, "Brothers, are you afraid of death?"

"I'm not afraid."

A unified chorus of responses rang out, instantly like a fresh blood stream being injected into a continent.

The dozen or so men, who had previously looked ashen, were now in a state of heightened excitement.

They followed Minglan's lead without question.

The man with the flute was clearly enraged. He raised his hand and said, "You don't know what's good for you. Attack! I don't believe that a dozen of you can defeat my forty men."

The two sides clashed, and the scene was bloody and chaotic. However, it was clear that Minglan's side was outnumbered.

Xie Lingqin was perched on the wall when, after a moment, she looked at Old Dong with a serious expression.

"Mr. Dong, you didn't bring me here for no reason, did you?"

"Yes, you guessed right, little girl. Let's each get what we want."

As soon as she finished speaking, Xie Lingqin saw that Elder Dong had disappeared from the spot. She looked around but could not find him anywhere.

Xie Lingqin's thoughts were fleeting, and she didn't bother to pay attention, so she jumped down from the tree.

She had a new idea.

About half an incense stick's time later, a ball of fire suddenly ignited in the courtyard, but in an instant it possessed the power to devour people.

Seeing this, Minglan, who was originally on the losing side, did not know why the fire had started, but she fought back even more fiercely. Taking advantage of the increasingly thick smoke and the moment when her opponent was stunned, she thrust her long sword forward, and blood splattered everywhere.

"Brothers, let's retreat."

"Stop them."

Zixiao clutched his wound, seething with rage.

Amidst the thick smoke, a nimble figure emerged from the encirclement, safely leading Minglan and her group out of the courtyard from the other side.

The wind is constantly spreading and gathering.

The smoke, and the sounds of pursuit behind it, finally faded into the distance.

The long streets and quiet alleys.

Minglan and his group, their faces ashen and disheveled, looked at the ethereal woman before them, who seemed untouched by the night.
