Chapter Ninety-One: Zong Government

The siblings locked eyes for a moment in mid-air. Xie Dan looked at them as if they were enemies, but because General Xie was there, he didn't say much. He just reluctantly got into the carriage.

Traditionally, boys and girls were not allowed to ride in the same carriage after the age of three. However, this rule did not apply to siblings.

Xie Lingqin, with a calm expression, followed closely behind and boarded the carriage.

"Young master, this is the jade flower cake you said you wanted to bring." Just as the carriage was about to depart, Miao Qiao came walking over excitedly with something in her arms.

Upon hearing this, Xie Dan lifted the curtain, his tone softening slightly, "Oh, give it to me."

"Yes, young master, please take care on your journey." Miao Qiao nodded and smiled politely, appearing quite proper, but her eyes and expression were so coy and shy.

Xie Lingqin glanced at Xie Danling casually and clearly noticed that he seemed a little uncomfortable.

General Xie nodded in satisfaction as he saw how sensible Miaoqiao was.

The carriage moved slowly; outside, the long street was bustling, but inside, it was deathly silent.

Xie Lingqin closed her eyes to rest as soon as she got into the carriage.

Xie Danling crossed her arms and looked at Xie Lingqin with a resentful gaze.

"I heard that my maternal grandparents' family might not be able to recover this time." After a long while, Xie Danling finally spoke.

Xie Lingqin slowly opened her eyes. "Who told you that?"

"The entire General's Mansion knows." Xie Danling raised her chin, looking at Xie Lingqin with a hint of resentment. "If I were you, I wouldn't go to my maternal grandparents' house."

"When the tree falls, the monkeys scatter. That's because beasts have no human feelings. So, you're not even as good as a beast?" Xie Lingqin glared coldly, her expression clearly insulting and contemptuous.

Xie Danling immediately turned pale and red-faced. "Don't talk to me like that. You're just a piece of trash. You have no right to talk to me."

"Okay, we'll arrive at the academy in another hour, then you can get off the carriage." Xie Lingqin wasn't angry at all, remaining calm as always.

This attitude undoubtedly provoked Xie Danling.

"I heard from my second sister that you seemed to have changed a bit. I thought you had become better, but it turns out you are so cold-blooded, heartless, and vicious, causing unrest in the manor. Humph." Xie Pinling snorted and stood up abruptly. "I feel suffocated even in the same carriage as you. I'll go back to the academy by myself." With that, she lifted the carriage curtain and was about to jump out.

"Take care, and don't bother seeing me off."

The name Xie Lingqin almost made Xie Danling stumble. She glared at Xie Linglingqin with resentment, but still left without looking back.

“Miss, you’re letting the young master leave like this? We’re still quite far from Huangshan Academy.” Zihe was usually very thoughtful.

However, Xie Lingqin remained silent for a long time.

Zihe was puzzled and quietly peeked through a corner of the curtain. Upon seeing it, her eyebrows twitched slightly.

because--

Xie Lingqin collapsed and fell asleep.

However, his face was not at peace.

...

When Xie Lingqin woke up, the carriage had already arrived at the Zong government.

Seeing Xie Lingqin sleeping soundly, Zihe deeply suspected that Xie Lingqin hadn't come to show concern, but rather to come and laugh at her.

However, remembering the furrowed brows she had seen Xie Lingqin slept with, she still carefully inquired, "Miss, have you been sleeping poorly these past few days? I noticed you were frowning when you took a nap before."

Upon hearing this, Xie Lingqin waved her hand, "No, these past few days, I've felt a bit uneasy, especially today..." Xie Lingqin pursed her lips, pressed her lower abdomen with a rather frustrated expression, then shook her head and waved her hand, "Never mind, it's nothing."

Is everything really alright?

Zihe was still worried.

Having clearly received the news, the elderly butler stood hunched over at the entrance of the Zong government building, having obviously been waiting for Xiu for a long time.

"Miss Cousin." The warm and caring address immediately brought a sense of relief to Xie Lingqin's face.

"Uncle Qin," Xie Lingqin called out.

"The old master was overjoyed to hear you were coming and is eagerly waiting for you." The butler smiled and led Xie Lingqin inside, a hint of excitement on his face.

Of course, we should be excited.

In the past, regardless of the original owner's personality, she rarely came to her maternal grandparents' house, probably just to survive.

Zongzhengfu, once a prestigious and wealthy residence, boasts a magnificent yet understated mansion, where the true essence lies within its walls.

Every scene and object, from the lush trees and pavilions to the winding streams and corridors, is exquisite. The paths are even inlaid with white jade stones, which shimmer with a lustrous sheen in the sunlight.

Xie Lingqin had heard her cousin say that, supposedly, the road wasn't there before. One night when her mother was a child, she fell down while walking, so her maternal grandfather ordered the road to be renovated and paved entirely with jade.

Logically speaking, such pampering would surely spoil her daughter, but her mother was exceptionally beautiful and talented, a remarkable woman who was admired throughout the entire Beirong and the whole world.

In particular, he commanded divine soldiers and drew bows and crossbows, achieving the remarkable feat of single-handedly repelling 100,000 troops.

However, Xie Lingqin had never seen such an outstanding and beautiful mother. Ever since she could remember some things, her mother, Zongzheng Shao, had always been melancholy and quiet. She rarely spoke a word and passed away after giving birth to Xie Danling.

Putting all that aside, Xie Lingqin glanced at Zihe beside her.

It was clearly their first time visiting the Zong government, and they were also impressed by the exquisite luxury of everything there, but they didn't show it on their faces.

Withdrawing my gaze, I followed the butler through pavilions and courtyards, finally stopping at an extremely quiet and elegant courtyard.

The courtyard is planted with many rare and exotic plants, especially osmanthus, which has a pleasant fragrance.

The main door opened, and an old man with silver hair and a white beard came out. As soon as he saw Xie Lingqin, he laughed excitedly, "Lingqin, you dare to come at a time like this? Did that Xie fellow upset you again?"
