Chapter Sixty-One: Your Mother's Remains

Tinghai was very puzzled.

In other words, these hundreds of skeletons left a way out, and no one came to rescue them...

"You've finally come in."

In the quiet tunnel, suddenly, a low, rough, and chilling voice rang out from afar.

Xie Lingqin was startled and turned around. Under the light of the night-shining pearl, a person shrouded in a black robe was walking closer and then stopped a few steps away from her.

Tinghai was about to make a move, but Xie Lingqin stopped him.

"Why didn't you let me in the tunnel last time?" Xie Lingqin asked directly.

"Wouldn't you be scared to see so many skeletons?"

The man in black robes did not answer the question. Instead, he walked past Xie Lingqin and suddenly went straight into the stone chamber.

Tinghai looked at the newcomer with a wary expression.

The man in black robes walked to the side of the stone chamber, to the spot where the most bones were piled up, and suddenly raised his hand and waved it.

The corpses scattered in all directions.

And at the very bottom.

One side of the woman's remains lay there, perfectly intact.

It seems that even from those slender bones, one can glimpse the sharp and fierce expression of the woman in her lifetime.

"No wonder, she said that in all the world, only you can push open this stone door, and indeed you are..."

The man in black robes suddenly squatted down and then, very sincerely, bowed to the skeleton.

"Her? Me?" Xie Lingqin frowned.

"This skeleton belongs to the general's wife, Zongzheng Shao."

The man in black robes gave an irrelevant answer, but his words were enough to leave Xie Lingqin speechless.

The echoes lingered in the empty stone chamber, the voice of the man in black robes reverberating and falling into Xie Lingqin's ears, as if cutting into her heart.

Xie Lingqin's voice tightened, "You're lying to me. My mother is now buried in the ancestral graveyard of the General's Mansion."

"That tomb is empty. General Xie never possessed her. They were all mysterious, wise and intelligent. Even their deaths were always earth-shattering and heroic. Five hundred people in total, so young and full of vigor, yet they all died here." The man in black robes looked around, his eyes deep and dark like the sea, as if he were mourning something.

Xie Lingqin's eyes darkened. "Why did these five hundred people die here?"

"hehe!"

The black-robed man's laughter sounded like lead, as if he were crying.

"But there's a path leading to this stone chamber, so why are these people... even if it's poison, they should have had time to escape, right? Could it be that this stone chamber leads to a dead end...?"

Meanwhile, Tinghai looked towards the path on the other side of the stone chamber.

"or……"

Xie Lingqin walked forward step by step, looking into the seemingly endless dark passage, then at the black robe, "Where does that lead?"

The man in black robes was looking at the mutilated corpse when he heard the sound, and stared at Xie Lingqin as if he had lost his soul.

Suddenly, their eyes met.

Xie Lingqin's heart trembled. This person's eyes were so sharp and fierce at this moment, so full of murderous intent, yet it seemed... they weren't directed at her.

“There…” The man in black robes raised his hand, his voice hoarse.

The lean hand emerged from the black sleeve, covered with gruesome burn marks; a single glance conjured a horrific image.

"That place once led to a place unknown to the world. It has been passed down for thousands of years. Legend has it that it was a pure land built by the offspring of a fairy who was knocked down from the heavens and a mortal. There, flowers bloomed in all seasons, birds sang and flowers were fragrant, and the clouds were as dark as ink. Until one day, the flowers and plants withered, the river dried up, and the way disappeared."

The black-robed man's voice grew softer and softer. Then, he stood up, looked at Xie Lingqin, and spoke as if a storm had broken through the rocks.

"Now, it's nothing but a dead end."

"You just said that only I can open this mechanism?"

"Yes, she said that only you can open this mechanism in the whole world, and when you open it, their souls can finally rest in peace."

After speaking, the man in black robes took out a white cloth from his bosom and spread it out on the ground piece by piece. He looked at Zong Zheng Shao's remains on the ground with utmost respect and lament, saying, "Zong Zheng Shao, after so many years, I have finally found you here."

The man in black robes carefully placed the remains onto the white cloth, his movements as gentle as if he were afraid of damaging a precious object. Then, he stood up and handed it to Xie Lingqin, saying, "Send her to the imperial mausoleum and bury her with Yuwen Yong."

"Why should I believe you?"

"Because I will not lie to you, and I will never treat you badly in the slightest."

Xie Lingqin frowned, "Who exactly are you?"

"You'll find out someday."

The man in black robes said this with a cold smile, and made a move to leave.

"Since you know that only I can open this mechanism, why did you stop me from coming in last time?"

"Because last time, you weren't qualified or capable enough to know what would happen next."

"What's up?"

"Go to the imperial mausoleum, and everything will be resolved." The figure in black robes gradually disappeared into the distance, and his voice eventually faded away.

"Go find Xu Yiran. He will return the things I left in the Heavenly Mystery Hall to you."

The sound came from my ear again.

Xie Lingqin was stunned for a moment, still holding the remains in her arms, but she had no clue what to do.

Just now, I was so shocked that my mind went blank and I didn't even think to leave the man in black robes behind to find out everything.

"Miss……"

“Close the stone gate and make it look as if we were never here.”

After a moment, Xie Lingqin gave the instructions.

Tinghai immediately gathered his surroundings, but he couldn't close the stone door. He tried the same movements as Xie Lingqin had just made, but still couldn't get it to close. Finally, he could only look to Xie Lingqin for help.
