Chapter Twelve: Battle!

“Tinglan?” Xie Lingqin’s face turned cold. “They really don’t get tired, they don’t even spare a dead person.”

Zihe remained calm and composed, with a sigh, "If a master wants to deal with another master but can't control him, he can only take down someone else to deal with."

Xie Lingqin glanced at her and said, "You seem to know quite a lot about these things."

“I’ve seen it all.” Zihe’s expression was calm as she asked, “Then, Miss, what should we do now?”

“Tinglan is already dead, and I will not let her soul be disturbed.” Xie Lingqin said calmly, pausing after each word, and then added, “However, since they haven’t sent anyone to invite me, we should not act rashly.”

Zihe's slightly rounded face, her slender eyes flickered, and after a moment she understood, "Yes, then Miss, you should sleep for a while, I'll call you if I need anything."

Xie Lingqin was increasingly satisfied with Zihe; he was truly insightful and clever.

However, Xie Lingqin couldn't fall asleep this time.

Although she hadn't spent many days with the maid Tinglan, now that she had taken over the original owner's body, she would never allow such a loyal and protective maid to ruin her reputation.

Since the second concubine is so relentless in her efforts to keep things quiet...

Xie Lingqin then called Zihe over and whispered something in her ear.

Zihe was clearly somewhat surprised.

"What, you don't have the guts to do it? Or do you think it's dirty?" Xie Lingqin was trying to provoke her.

After a moment, Zihe lowered her brows and replied, "Since Zihe is Miss's person, I will obey Miss's orders in everything." After speaking, she curtsied and went out.

About half an hour later, the second concubine naturally sent someone to invite her.

Xie Lingqin led Zihe away with a look of urgency on her face.

In the front courtyard, the second concubine sat, surrounded by guards and maids. In the very center, a young servant was kneeling on the ground, his head drooping, his whole being screaming "guilt."

Xie Lingqin walked over, looked at her second aunt, and asked softly, "Second Aunt, what's wrong?"

“Young Miss, you’ve come at the right time. I’m not trying to criticize you, but your maid really needs to be disciplined. Tinglan usually seems well-behaved, but who would have thought that she not only conspired with outsiders to harm Lingyu, but also had an affair with this servant. I should have investigated, because this investigation has revealed…” Second Aunt said with disgust and helplessness, “It’s so shameful.”

These words, spoken to Xie Lingqin's face, ostensibly meant to imply that the maid had disgraced the maid, but in reality, every word was a veiled criticism of Xie Lingqin's poor upbringing, a smear campaign against her.

Xie Lingqin remained calm, her eyes clear, and gently shook her head. "Second Aunt, are you mistaken? How could such an honest girl like Tinglan have an affair? Besides, she's with me every day, how could she have the opportunity to have an affair? This must be a mistake."

"A mistake?" The second concubine looked heartbroken. Then, she sighed and pointed almost helplessly at the scattered letters on the ground, and then at the kneeling servant. "If you don't believe me, Miss, then ask him."

However, Xie Lingqin, an unmarried young lady, had no right to ask such a question.

Of course, all the maids and servants also believed that Xie Lingqin dared not step forward to ask.

However, Xie Lingqin stepped forward. Instead of asking, "Did you have an affair with Tinglan?", she picked up a piece of paper covered in writing from the ground and inquired, "Is this truly a correspondence between you and Tinglan?"

"Yes, Miss." The servant nodded, clearly disheartened at being caught in the act of private matters.

Upon hearing this, Xie Lingqin seemed to find it somewhat amusing and looked at her second aunt, "Second aunt, let's not even talk about whether the servant is lying, but Tinglan has been by my side for so long, I can recognize as many characters as she knows and can write. This... clearly doesn't look like her handwriting."

Upon hearing this, the second concubine remained expressionless, but sighed slightly, "Miss, now that Tinglan is dead, why do you still protect her?"

"Protecting her?" Xie Lingqin seemed quite surprised, shook her head, and after a moment, as if she had suddenly thought of a way, she quietly took out a piece of paper from her sleeve and had Zihe hand it to the servant, "Take another look, this is written to you by Tinglan."

Seeing this, the second concubine's expression changed slightly. Looking at the paper in Zihe's hand, she sensed something was wrong and was about to step forward to stop him when she saw the servant look at it and nod, "Yes, yes."

"Hehe." Xie Lingqin suddenly smiled with relief, then turned to look at her second aunt. "Second aunt, you've probably been fooled by this servant. He can't even read, yet he claims to be writing letters with Tinglan to express their private feelings."

Upon hearing this, the servant quickly raised his head and said eagerly, "This servant can read, I can read."

"Can you read?" Xie Lingqin lowered her head and gestured for Zihe to hand the piece of paper to the servant. "Then, read these lines to me."

"I...am..." The servant stammered out two words before falling silent with a nervous expression.

Meanwhile, the second concubine immediately lost her composure, never expecting that Xie Lingqin, whom she didn't care about, would resort to such a tactic.

Although they were secretly pleased and wished he would die sooner, they could do nothing under the watchful eyes of everyone.

"Second Aunt, this person is talking nonsense. There might be someone behind him. In my opinion, you should report to Father as soon as possible and ask him to investigate carefully. What if some bad guy comes to our General's Mansion and takes the opportunity to cause trouble? That would be a big problem." Xie Lingqin's expression became more and more serious as she spoke. "I heard a few days ago that there have been many unknown people in the capital recently. You should also be careful."

The second concubine looked embarrassed, gripping the armrest of her chair tightly, and forced a smile. "Miss, you're exaggerating. I'll deal with this person's nonsense. However, Tinglan's death is definitely related to her and Lingyu's injuries." The last sentence was full of hidden meaning.
