Chapter Forty-Five: Revenge is a Must

The second aunt's eyes were practically overflowing with joy.

Although Xie Lingqin hadn't expected to injure her hand and escape this ordeal, a slap from the general was still enough to make her suffer.

"Mother, one slap is too lenient on her."

Xie Lingyu stepped forward and said, "In my opinion, we should have sent Xie Lingqin's personal belongings along with the letter. That would have made Father extremely disappointed in her and completely abandon her. A woman who disregards her reputation would be a laughingstock."

Second Aunt didn't think so. She smoothed her hair and waved her hand, "Lingyu, you're mistaken. Although the General didn't say anything to you or me before, he clearly had some complaints. It's only recently, because of the Prince Xian, that he's become so nice to us. If Xie Lingqin is ruined all at once, things will happen too quickly and people will definitely become suspicious."

“My mother is right, but it’s really hard to let her go like this.”

"What is there to be resentful about? Now, the Crown Prince is helping you, and the Prince Xian likes you. All that's left is for your mother to make you the official wife. Then, what is there to worry about?"

Upon hearing this, Xie Lingyu's beautiful face lit up, and she immediately stepped forward, "Mother, do you already have a plan in mind when you say this?"

"Hmph, if you don't want people to know, then don't do it in the first place. As your mother, I need to hold onto your father's heart first."

"What Mother said..."

"Just you wait and see."

...

The mother and daughter were engrossed in their conversation when, unexpectedly, a dark shadow vanished from the rooftop in an instant.

Qingfeng Pavilion.

As soon as Xie Lingqin landed, she rubbed her face.

General Xie's slap was indeed too heavy.

However, since Second Aunt and Xie Lingyu are so happy, let them be happy for a while.

Night falls.

The general's mansion was completely silent.

However, a man's figure quietly slipped into a small courtyard and went straight into the main house, which was lit up.

Further away, beneath a dense cluster of flowers, a person saw this and immediately ran away.

In just over an hour, the second concubine led a group of people carrying soup into the small courtyard.

“My dear Wan, I noticed you didn’t look well the other day, so I specially made you some red date and angelica soup today.”

The second aunt stood in the courtyard and called out softly to the main house.

Immediately, a maidservant stepped forward and said, "Second Madam, let me do it."

"No need, it's perfect. I'm in great spirits today, I'll keep Wan company and chat with her."

"But... Second Aunt, Aunt Wan has gone to bed." The little maid raised her head, her eyes clearly a little unsteady.

This falsehood only strengthened the second aunt's conviction.

She had only recently discovered that Aunt Wan seemed to be up to something, so she had someone keep watch over her for the past few nights. Sure enough, tonight, she saw a man sneak into her room.

With Consort Wan gone, and the other concubines no longer a threat, the general's attention was now focused solely on her.

If we win back the general's heart and put him in the rightful place, what will a mere Xie Lingqin matter then?

They originally hoped Xie Danling would help, but the boy doesn't come back to the manor often and can't be of any help for the time being.

So, drinking chicken soup?

I'm afraid that after tonight, Aunt Wan will never be able to drink a drop of water in the General's Mansion again.

Pulling her sleeves together, the second concubine wasn't in a hurry. "Asleep? So early. Why do you look so uneasy, maid? Could something have happened to Concubine Wan?"

"No, nothing's wrong." The little maid was timid, and seeing the Second Madam's imposing manner, she shook her head like a rattle-drum. "Second Madam, Aunt Wan has really gone to sleep."

"You look so flustered, I need to go in and see what's going on," said the second aunt, walking towards the tightly closed door.

The maidservant tried to stop her but couldn't.

He appeared worried, but in reality, he was overjoyed.

Catching an adulterer in bed—that's quite a rare sight indeed.

"Thank you for bringing the chicken soup, sister." Just as the second aunt's hand was about to touch the doorknob, the door opened from the inside.

Aunt Wan stood there, wrapped in a cloak and with her hair down.

With her delicate willow branches swaying in the breeze and her charming allure flowing freely, she was truly captivating.

Although she appeared calm at this moment, the spring-like look in her eyes, which seemed to come from something she had done, could not be hidden from the Second Aunt.

"Now that my sister is awake, I'll come in and have a chat with you." The second aunt then had the servants bring up the chicken soup and was about to step over the threshold.

"Second Aunt, I...I feel a little tired."

"Tired?" The second concubine sniffed the room, becoming even more certain. Her gaze swept over Aunt Wan's face. "Sister, you seem to be in good spirits. Why are you making such excuses? Could it be that someone is hiding in this room?"

"Sister, be careful what you say," Aunt Wan immediately replied, her body visibly trembling.

Seeing this, the second concubine's eyes flashed with a cold smile. "Sister, there's something wrong with the smell in your room... The general sent word that he's in his study. Could it be that you're really hiding another man here...?"

As if suddenly realizing something, the second concubine pushed aside Aunt Wan and rushed into the house.

Aunt Wan, with her delicate and graceful figure, hadn't even turned around when she saw Second Aunt already heading towards the inner room.

You shameless woman, though you pose little threat normally, you've managed to gain even a little favor from the General, so you can't be allowed to live sooner or later. Today, hmph...

"stop."

Inside the room, a sudden, sharp shout caused the second concubine to freeze in her tracks, her face changing color and her body stiffening.

That sound...

Isn't he a general?

General, what are you doing here?

"Get out." With another sharp shout, a heavy palm wind struck, causing the second concubine to stagger out of the doorway, lose her balance, and fall to the ground.

"Second Madam." The nanny and maidservant rushed forward to help her up.
