A loud thud suddenly sounded like the wind.
The city lord, who originally wanted to take the second shopkeeper hostage, was kicked directly from inside the house to outside the courtyard.
He coughed up a mouthful of blood, his face turning pale.
Inside the room, a tall, jade-like figure with slightly furrowed brows stood out, resembling a towering, snow-capped mountain – who else could it be but Yuwen Yao?
"Ah, my husband, you're awake."
Nan Lingqin rushed towards Yuwen Yao.
As Yuwen Yao steadied Nan Lingqin, he slightly turned his body, looked at her with displeasure, and said, "You knocked me unconscious."
This is a fact, but the tone is rather melancholic.
Nan Lingqin chuckled to herself, stepped forward, knowing she was in the wrong, tugged at his sleeve, and said in an incredibly gentle tone, "Don't be angry, I was just thinking of you. Look, you've been so busy taking care of me all this way, you must have been exhausted. I'm letting you rest and leave everything to me, I'm just worried about you."
"Feeling sorry for me?"
Yuwen Yao was almost amused by her amusement. He glanced at her; her round face and round body were staring intently at him, her long eyelashes fluttering slightly. She knew she was wrong and corrected her mistake very quickly, which made her incredibly adorable.
Moreover, the feeling of being coaxed by her is really quite nice.
"Well, we can discuss that later. How do you plan to handle this?"
Yuwen Yao raised his hand and pointed, naturally at the city garrison commander who was lying in the courtyard.
"Oh, he dared to have designs on you, and he harmed so many people..."
Nan Lingqin turned back to look at the shopkeeper standing there and said, "Go and ask him. At least you'll know where your brother's body is so you'll have a place to pay your respects."
Shopkeeper Er suddenly realized what was happening. Although he was heartbroken and saddened, he knew that Nan Lingqin was right, so he immediately stepped forward to press her for an explanation.
The city garrison commander was not only injured by Yuwen Yao's kick, but also collapsed in the courtyard. He was then held down by Tingfeng and Tingyu, who pinned him to the ground, rendering him completely immobile and unable to cause any trouble.
Since she was going to die anyway, she didn't respond to the shopkeeper's interrogation. Instead, her eyes were greedily fixed on Yuwen Yao, which was disgusting.
"Bang--"
With another loud thud, the shopkeeper saw the city guard in front of him being suddenly kicked away, then fall heavily to the ground, lying on his back. The shopkeeper could clearly hear the sound of bones breaking. He glanced to the side.
Nan Lingqin stood calmly in the courtyard, patting her belly. She looked at the city guard as if he were a pile of excrement, so disgusting and contemptuous.
With such beauty and such methods, Shop No. 2 was stunned.
"He's my man, did I let you see him?"
With a cold, resounding question, the city guard seemed to want to answer, but he could only grimace without uttering a word, blood continuously flowing from his mouth.
"Oh no, you, you mustn't let him die! I haven't found out where my brother is yet!"
Shopkeeper Er panicked and hurriedly tried to pull on Nan Lingqin's sleeve, but before his hand could even touch the edge of her sleeve, a gust of wind swept in and sent Shopkeeper Er flying several meters away. If it weren't for the wall behind him, he probably wouldn't have been able to keep his balance.
Yuwen Yao, who had just been standing inside the house with a resentful look on his face, was now standing beside Nan Lingqin. He didn't say a word, but his protective stance towards his wife was extremely fierce.
Nan Lingqin raised her eyebrows slightly, glanced at him, pursed her lips, and secretly smiled without saying a word.
At that moment, a figure appeared in the air; it was Minglan.
Nan Lingqin had originally instructed Minglan to return to the Xue family, but Minglan insisted on escorting her, so she no longer refused.
"Sister, we found many skeletons at the residence of the city garrison commander."
Minglan listened to these words, seemingly shocked by what she had just witnessed, her brows furrowed in a heavy expression.
Nan Lingqin pursed her lips, glanced at Yuwen Yao, and finally looked at Shop No. 2 in the corner. "Let's go take a look."
Listening to the wind and listening to the rain naturally brought up the city lord as well.
The backyard of the city garrison commander Da Rao was truly magnificent.
The surrounding flowers and plants grew extremely lush and abundant, while on the side, a hole had been dug out, where piles of bones lay neatly arranged. Some were so old that their true appearance was no longer discernible, while others, which had died relatively recently, were still disgusting to the point of being unsightly.
The surrounding land has been renovated again and again; if you weren't looking for it, you probably wouldn't be able to see it at all, thanks to the cover provided by these flowers and plants.
"elder brother……"
Shop Two searched through each shop one by one, growing more and more desperate.
“Your brother’s body is not here. As you said, your brother must have died at least a year ago. If his body were here, we would be able to tell how badly it was destroyed.”
Upon hearing Nan Lingqin's words, the shopkeeper stopped searching, looked up at Nan Lingqin as if he had seen a glimmer of hope, his eyes reddened, and his lips trembled, "So, you mean, my brother... might not be dead..."
Nan Lingqin did not answer immediately, but turned to look at the still-breathing city lord beside her, "Where are you?"
"I...I...uh...hahaha..."
"Isn't that right? Then you must believe me, I have a million ways to make you say what I want to hear."
Nan Lingqin's smile vanished abruptly, her voice turning cold and aloof. Her starry eyes shone with a chilling light, causing the city lord to tremble as if he were being sucked in by her gaze.
Not only was the city lord stunned, but the shopkeeper next to him was also shocked.
I always thought this woman and her husband were very impressive, but their aura at this moment is truly extraordinary.
Just moments ago, she was all smiles, calm and gentle, approachable and charming. But now, one can immediately sense the vast difference between them, that one is mud while the other is cloud, high above, unattainable cloud.
"They...they ran away..."
The city lord finally managed to utter a few words with great difficulty.
"They ran away?"
Upon hearing this, the second shopkeeper immediately snapped out of his daze, overjoyed. He ran over in a few steps, grabbed the city garrison commander's clothes, and exclaimed, "My brother has run away! It's true!"
