Extra Chapter 5: A Visit to My Mother's Home (Part 5)

On the long road, Tingyu and Tingfeng drove their carriage, and for a moment everything calmed down, as if even the wind had become pleasant.

"Madam, this road goes straight south, and the weather gets better and better, the air is excellent."

Listening to the rain, he spoke into the carriage.

"Yes, we might be a little slower. Those 50,000 people have already arrived and successfully entered the Cloud Clan. My grandparents will send someone to pick us up."

"Okay."

"Drive steadily and avoid bumpy rides."

Nan Lingqin spoke casually and leisurely, while Yuwen Yao was serious and solemn, as if he were giving an order.

Inside the carriage, Nan Lingqin glanced at him and chuckled, "I, Yuwen Yao, am pregnant. I'm not a fragile piece of jade, okay? Besides, I'm confident that the baby is stable, so there's no need to worry too much."

“I’m not worried about the baby,” Yuwen Yao said, looking at her tenderly. “I’m worried about your health.”

"I'm not fragile, okay? Besides, I'm in pretty good shape. Didn't you see how I beat that city guard to a pulp? His parents probably wouldn't even recognize him."

"Qin'er..."

Nan Lingqin was fine until Yuwen Yao let out a long sigh, which made her skin crawl. Her starry eyes narrowed, and she subconsciously shrank back. "Um, Yuwen Yao, please don't be so gentle all of a sudden. I can't take it."

"So, do you think what you did before was right?"

What happened before?

Well, she knew it; this person was still secretly watching.

Nan Lingqin smiled slightly, "You're a man, you should be more magnanimous and not always worry about such trivial matters."

"Then, am I too good-looking, which is why I've attracted trouble?"

"What's wrong with looking good? It's great, it's very good."

Nan Lingqin smiled with her eyes narrowed.

"If you hadn't foreseen this, and if you weren't so clever and quick-witted as to have seen it, wouldn't we already be in danger right now?"

Yuwen Yao lowered his phoenix eyes slightly, sighed again, and said in a low voice, "Qin'er, it's all my fault."

Upon seeing Yuwen Yao like this, Nan Lingqin immediately stepped forward and said, "No, it's not your fault. What's wrong with you being good-looking? It's that the city guard has impure intentions. What trouble doesn't come from gambling? We've been through so much already, what's this little thing?"

“If you weren’t blaming me, why didn’t you discuss it with me beforehand and instead risked your life?”

Yuwen Yao glanced sideways at the outside of the carriage, his face filled with sorrow.

Those delicate and elegant eyebrows seemed to be tinged with self-reproach.

A beautiful woman's tears are heartbreaking, and this handsome man's furrowed brows are equally distressing.

Nan Lingqin rubbed her forehead and softened her tone, "Yuwen Yao, my husband, it's me who's pregnant. Why are you being so sentimental? Okay, next time I'll discuss things with you in advance so you won't worry, alright?"

Upon hearing this, Yuwen Yao sighed again before turning his head slightly and slowly taking her hand. "Really, Qin'er?"

"Of course, of course."

Nan Lingqin suddenly realized that it wasn't just her pregnancy that made her overthink; the father was overthinking too. She gently patted his hand and leaned in to kiss Yuwen Yao's lips. "Yes, I always keep my word. I swear, next time, no matter what happens, I'll discuss it with you..."

Before Nan Lingqin could finish speaking, she felt the carriage suddenly dent. In the nick of time, Yuwen Yao had already reached out and pulled Nan Lingqin into his arms. At the same time, he leaped out of the carriage.

"Madam, Master."

Tingfeng and Tingyu also jumped off the carriage in that instant, with Erque standing in front and behind to protect the two.

The horse went mad and pulled the carriage headfirst into a large tree. Blood gushed out, and with a whimper, it died.

All around, it was eerily quiet.

Where did you buy the horse?

Nan Lingqin looked at Tingfeng.

"At the market."

Nan Lingqin's expression relaxed slightly. "Then it wasn't something that had been planned for a long time."

"It's the Soul-Calming Leaf. Look, that leaf over there has a stimulating effect on the horse's spirit."

Yuwen Yao pointed to the dark green grass on the side.

Nan Lingqin also recognized the grass and agreed wholeheartedly, so she pointed it out.

"Everyone, don't be afraid. We're after money, not our lives."

Suddenly, a sound came from all directions, so rough and frightening.

Immediately afterwards, from deep within the woods ahead, several men dressed as bandits, carrying knives and swords, strode out with great imposing presence.

Nan Lingqin was somewhat bewildered.

Since transmigrating to this world, she has experienced quite a lot, including life-and-death situations, but this robbery is truly a first for her.

Yuwen Yao gently took Nan Lingqin's hand and shielded her behind him, saying, "Trust."

He appeared aloof, calm, and composed, his expression unchanged. There was no trace of the self-reproach, guilt, or sadness he had shown earlier.

"Yuwen Yao, where is that delicate beauty you were just now?"

"What delicate beauty?"

Yuwen Yao pretended not to understand.

"you……"

Nan Lingqin was speechless. She pouted and pointed at Yuwen Yao, then at herself, "Yuwen Yao, you bad guy, you actually started acting out your sympathy just to trick me."

"Is there?"

Yuwen Yao looked so innocent, and even smiled innocently, "Qin'er, remember to consult with me about everything in the future, otherwise your husband will worry a lot."

Nan Lingqin...

"Alright, husband, we've been stopped by bandits. They want to pay a toll. What do you think we should do?"

"I'd like to go and see what the feng shui of their mountain pass is like?"

Upon hearing this, Nan Lingqin's face turned green, and her lips twitched. "Yuwen Yao, are you serious? You want to take over someone else's territory?"
