Chapter 21 No Coincidence
A warm texture brushed against my lips; it was Wenwan's fingers holding the pastry.
Shen Yu paused, suddenly realizing what he had done.
Although he felt regretful, he had seen many storms and did not show any fear on his face.
“It’s quite sweet.”
He stood up and gave his evaluation calmly.
Wen Wan: “…”
People who eat her saliva don't mind, so what else can she say.
Besides, it’s not like we haven’t kissed before!
Wenwan has a sense of shame, but not much.
Thinking of this, she soon felt relieved.
However, after this little incident, both of them felt a little awkward and didn't talk much for the whole afternoon.
*
The eerie atmosphere continued until dinner time.
Gao Ling brought a cook with her, and the cook went to a nearby town in the afternoon to buy some ingredients.
As the sun sets, the only things left in the suburban night are the mottled shadows of trees and the chirping of insects among the grass.
The people of the Gao family caravan gathered around the campfire. Above the campfire was the pork rib soup that the chef had been cooking for an hour.
Wen Wan received a bowl of soup and rice and while eating, she listened to the merchants discussing shipping to the town tomorrow.
The so-called traveling merchants sell goods from one place to another and make money as they travel.
Chen Yu mingled with the group of vendors, using the excuse that he had to accompany his wife to worship the Goddess of Fertility tomorrow, and therefore would not go with the others to ship the goods.
Continuing the family line is a big deal in every family, so no one doubted it.
After finishing the business, Shen Yu walked up to Gao Ling with a paper bag.
Gao Ling had a very sensitive nose and could smell the fragrance from the paper bag.
"What are you holding?"
Shen Yu threw the paper bag into his arms, "Here's something to eat."
"You are indeed a good brother. You even know to add more food for me."
Gao Ling tore open the cardboard and his expression immediately fell. "Braised pig's trotters? Have you forgotten that I never eat this!"
Shen Yu didn't care much, "I've already bought it. If you don't want to eat it... give it to other brothers."
Wen Wan had already come over following the smell, and her eyes lit up when she saw the braised pig's trotters in Gao Ling's hand.
"Brother Gao, if you don't want to eat it, give it to me. I like braised pig's trotters the most."
Gao Ling was startled, "You like it?"
Wen Wan nodded repeatedly, "Yes!"
As a shrewd businessman, Gao Ling glanced at Shen Yu who acted as if nothing had happened, then at Wen Wan who was smiling, and instantly understood.
This is not food for him, but someone is using him to feed the girl.
"Okay, take it and eat it. You're welcome."
Gao Ling looked at Wen Wan who was leaving contentedly with the braised pig's trotters in her arms, nudged Shen Yu's arm with her elbow, and asked:
"I'm telling you, are you interested in Zhao Xiaowan?"
Shen Yu glanced at him, "No."
Gao Ling shook his head, clearly unconvinced. "I've never seen you buy food for any girl. Even if you deny it, as a brother, I still have to say a few words."
Shen Yu said nothing.
Gao Ling: "Xiao Wan is a concubine of a merchant. Given her status, it's not impossible for you to take her in. After all, having her in your backyard won't make a big difference. But... don't take it too seriously."
Since ancient times, heroes have been romantic. As men, it is not too much for them to have a few confidantes.
But the person who deserves their serious attention must always be of matching status and position.
It has nothing to do with right or wrong, it's just the class concept they have been instilled with since childhood.
Shen Yu didn't say anything when he heard this, but just looked in Wen Wan's direction.
The heartless girl was happily chewing the pig's trotter. The satisfied mood emanated from her, making the world feel a lot more relaxed.
"I know what's going on."
Shen Yu retracted his gaze and replied lightly.
*
I came back to the Temple of the Goddess of Childbirth and this time I entered smoothly.
Under the pretext of burning incense, Shen Yu took Wen Wan on a tour inside and outside the temple.
"Did you find it?"
Wen Wan shook her head in confusion, "Yesterday I clearly saw the black blue bird land in the direction of the Niangniang Temple. It's impossible that I can't find it."
Chen Yu: "Isn't this the nest of the black bluebird?"
Wen Wan pondered for a moment and analyzed, "From a feng shui and geography perspective, this location is the most likely place for a cemetery, and the black blue bird also landed here. Both conditions are met at the same time. I don't believe it's just a coincidence."
Shen Yu's expression was solemn, and he looked at the temple in front of him again with sharp eyes.
Suddenly, he pointed to a side hall of the Niangniang Temple and asked, "Look, what is that?"
Wen Wan looked in the direction he pointed and saw a navy blue feather hanging on the eaves of the side hall.
"The feathers of the blackbird!"
Wen Wan ran over quickly and looked up with her neck tilted.
This time, I really figured out what it was all about.
"I was saying, there aren't so many coincidences in the world."
Shen Yu followed and stood beside her, looking up as well, but he didn't see anything special.
A true man can bend and stretch. He asked in a deep voice, "Please give me some advice, my lady."
Wen Wan was so excited that she didn't notice him calling her "wife" and pointed to the beam above her head to explain.
“This is the black-green tree.”
"The craftsmen who built this Niangniang Temple really put a lot of thought into it. The black pine tree prefers shade, and only the top of the tree has branches and leaves, while the main trunk is bare."
"Look at this beam. It starts from the base of these two walls and goes all the way to the bottom of the window."
"If I'm not mistaken, when you look out the window, you can see that the beams and the branches and leaves outside form a complete black pine tree."
After hearing what she said, Shen Yu quickly walked to the window and looked out.
There were indeed dense branches and leaves outside the window.
"You even know how to build a house?"
Shen Yu looked at Wen Wan with a more scrutinizing look.
It is not something that ordinary people can do to see the ingenuity of this side hall at a glance.
Wen Wan smiled dryly, "I've studied a little bit."
"Know a thing or two again?" Shen Yu smiled playfully.
Wen Wan nodded, "When dealing with people, one must be humble. Okay, while no one is around, I'll calculate the direction of the entrance to the ancient tomb."
Shen Yu responded without disturbing her from searching for the dragon.
Wen Wan picked up a branch and started writing on the ground. "This is quite interesting. Do you remember the dilapidated temple where we were kidnapped by bandits last time?"
Chen Yu: "I remember. That dilapidated temple was also built on top of an ancient tomb. You also said at the time that the temple was built on the ancient tomb to suppress the souls of the deceased."
Hearing this, Wen Wan looked up at him.
She gave a thumbs-up and said, "Not bad! You actually remembered what I just said! You're worthy of being a lieutenant at such a young age."
He was usually criticized by her so often that he was a little uncomfortable when she suddenly praised him.
Suddenly, his eyes fell on her feet and his face darkened.
"Don't move..."
Wen Wan was stunned for a moment, and looking down along his line of sight, she saw a pitch-black thing crawling out of a small hole at the base of the wall.
"snake!"
Wen Wan was so scared that she jumped three feet high and jumped directly onto Shen Yu.
She put her arms around his neck, clamped her legs around his waist, and stuck her whole body to him seamlessly.
Shen Yu's hands were faster than his mind and he naturally held her butt.
So, the young master, who had just walked to the door, led a group of pilgrims and encountered an extremely "indecent" scene.
