Chapter 30: Bride Gift
She used the things she used to save her life, so she really couldn't bear to give them to others unless it was absolutely necessary.
Wen Wan sighed and raised her hand to touch Shen Yu's face.
"So, Ah Chai, if you wake up, you must remember my friendship. I gave you my life, so please don't let me down."
Gao Ling had experienced a little of her condition, so even though the doctor had said that she was beyond help, Gao Ling still held out a glimmer of hope.
The doctor was old and couldn't stay up late, so he fell asleep leaning on his chair.
Gao Ling and Wen Wan sat on the edge of the bed, both of their faces full of fatigue, but they were both trying their best to persevere.
At dawn, warmth fills the sky and earth.
Outside the window, an early bird was singing on the branch. I don’t know if its singing attracted the response of insects, but after a while, all kinds of sounds mixed together in the yard, and it was very lively.
Shen Yu slowly opened his eyes, turned his head, and met Wen Wan's sleepy eyes.
As if he remembered something, a smile appeared on his pale face.
"You gave me your life, I won't let you down..."
His lips were dry and his voice was low when he spoke.
Wen Wan noticed it the moment he woke up, and her cheeks immediately turned red when she heard him say this.
"You, you...you can hear us talking even though you are unconscious?"
Shen Yu responded and said weakly: "I'm confused, but I can hear some."
Seeing that he really woke up, Gao Ling covered her mouth excitedly, looking like she was about to cry.
Gao Ling didn't know what to say. He jumped up and down twice on the spot as if to vent his anger, like a child.
Shen Yu glanced at him with disdain, his throat rolling, and after a while, he said softly: "You are tired all night, go and rest."
Wen Wan was about to nod, but heard Gao Ling waving his hand.
"Why are you sleeping? I'm so happy I can't sleep!"
Wen Wan: “…”
If she said she wanted to go to sleep now, wouldn't it seem like she was being outdone?
So, she pursed her lips in grievance and glared at Gao Ling secretly and resentfully.
Shen Yu noticed her little action and raised the corner of his mouth, "Then you stay, Xiaowan... go and rest."
Wen Wan nodded gratefully, "Yes! Then you should rest well too. I'll go take a nap?"
"Okay." Shen Yu smiled dotingly.
*
Wen Wan's so-called "nap" ended up being a day and a night later when she woke up.
This sleep was a deep sleep, but also extremely satisfying.
After washing up and walking out of the room, she happened to meet the inn waiter carrying a lunch box.
The innkeeper greeted her warmly, "Miss, you're awake. Please wait a moment. Your meal is being heated up in the kitchen. I'll bring it to your room in a moment."
Wen Wan was startled, "It's always hot?"
The innkeeper smiled and explained, "Since you were sleeping so soundly, Captain Zhou was worried you'd be hungry when you woke up, so he had someone heat up the food for you so you can eat it when you wake up."
"Oh." Wen Wan responded. As a wounded man, how could he have time to explain all this?
She smiled and said, "It just so happens that I'm going to visit him too. I'll send my meal to his room later so we can eat together and save trouble."
"That's fine." The waiter turned and went to the kitchen to get the food.
Wen Wan was happily pulled into the side room, and the door was not closed tightly.
She raised her hand and pushed the door open, and saw the doctor changing Shen Yu's dressing.
He was injured in the thigh, so Wen Wan only took a quick look, gasped, and turned around to leave.
"Mrs. Zhou, please stay!"
The doctor called her over and said, "Since Madam Zhou is here, it's a good opportunity to help the old man."
"Huh?" Wen Wan coughed twice, "This, this is inconvenient."
He wasn't wearing any pants, so how could she help him?
Just look at the abdominal muscles, if there are more, she is afraid of nosebleeds!
No, no, even though she's outspoken, she's a good young person with a good family background who's received a socialist education. She'll definitely stick to the bottom line!
The doctor glanced at her with a puzzled look on his face. "What's so inconvenient about this? Aren't you a couple?"
Fake!
They are a fake couple!
But I can't say this now.
Sure enough, if you tell one lie, you will need a hundred lies to cover it up.
Wen Wan felt regretful, but didn't know how to explain it. For a moment, she stood at the door like a wooden stake, motionless.
Shen Yu's eyes fell on her back, and his face flushed uncomfortably.
"Doctor, please ask your little medicine boy to help. My wife is shy and will be embarrassed in broad daylight with strangers around."
Upon hearing this, the doctor nodded in agreement, "That's true. I'm sorry for being so rude."
He then said to Wen Wan, "Then please ask Madam Zhou to call the medicine boy over for me."
Wen Wan had no choice but to agree, and she ran over to grab the little medicine boy.
Only after the doctor changed the medicine and left did Wen Wan muster up the courage to step back into the room.
After she poured herself a glass of water, she asked, "Where's Brother Gao? Why isn't he here?"
"He went to the Temple of the Goddess of Childbirth to clean up the mess."
Seeing her reaching for the teapot again, Shen Yu frowned and said, "The tea is cold. Drink a little, just to quench your thirst. If you want more, ask the innkeeper to make you another pot."
Wen Wan hesitated for a moment and put down the cup.
She came to the bedside, bent over, and stared at Shen Yu curiously, "Why do I feel like you've become a different person after being injured like this?"
Shen Yu raised an eyebrow, "Is there?"
"Yes!" With his terrible temper before, how could he care whether she drank the cold tea or not?
Shen Yu remained noncommittal, "After surviving a great disaster, there will always be some changes."
"That's right." Wen Wan sat down on the edge of the bed and stretched out her palm towards him with her five fingers spread out.
Shen Yu didn’t understand.
Wen Wan: "The life-saving medicine I gave you costs five hundred taels per pill. That's not too expensive, right?"
Shen Yu sneered, "You're really obsessed with money."
Wen Wan sat up straight. "You have no idea how much effort I put into making this small bottle. Even if I make it right now, it will take three months to make it. And if I get sick or injured during these three months, I will have no way to save my life. So five hundred taels is really not expensive."
Anyway, he has money, so it’s not too much for her to ask for a little compensation.
After Shen Yu heard this, his expression became heavy.
Wen Wan thought he would not agree, so she compromised quietly, "If you think five hundred taels is too expensive, three hundred taels will do..."
"Five thousand taels." Shen Yu interrupted her in a deep voice.
Wenwan's eyes were filled with shock, and she thought she had heard it wrong.
Counter-offering, is he sick and confused?
Wen Wan: "Did you not hear clearly? Let me say it again, I said five hundred taels."
"I know."
Shen Yu stared at her with burning eyes, and his eyes instantly became gentle.
He smiled and said, "The five thousand taels I mentioned is the betrothal gift I give you."
Wen Wan felt that she was now confused due to illness and was even having auditory hallucinations.
"bride price?"
Does he know what these two words mean?
