Chapter 7: The General
Perhaps because he lost the verbal battle to Wen Wan, Achai didn't say a word to Wen Wan for the rest of the journey.
Jinmu spent a lot of money to buy a carriage from the owner of the post station. Wen Wan sat in the carriage and Jinmu drove for her.
Wen Wan lifted the curtain and looked out several times, but she only saw the back of Achai riding a horse in the front.
In the sunshine, the tall and straight man looks almost perfect no matter how you look at him. Unfortunately, his bad personality becomes his fatal flaw.
Wen Wan was bored and started chatting with Jin Mu, "Brother Jin Mu, your captain has such a sharp tongue. Is it true that no one has ever beaten him up when he's with his colleagues?"
"Beat him?"
Kaneki's mouth twitched, "Who dares to beat him? He's the one who beats others."
Wen Wan pretended to think for a moment, then shook her head and sighed, "That's right. These days, the timid are afraid of the strong, and the strong are afraid of the desperate. With your captain's temper, no normal person would confront him head-on."
Kaneki understood the hidden meaning in her words, which clearly meant that Chai had a mental problem and was not a normal person.
Jin Mu shrank his neck in dismay and persuaded in a low voice:
"Miss Xiaowan, my master has good hearing, he can hear you if you say that!"
Wen Wan remained calm and said, "I heard it. Can he still kill me?"
Kaneki was about to say something to scare her, but he heard her express her opinion directly.
"Brother Jinmu, you don't have to scare me. I'm not stupid. Your captain kept me here, do you really think I'm a spy?"
Wen Wan curled her lips. "Isn't it because you think I'm useful that you keep me around? I understand. So, as long as I'm still useful, your captain won't attack me, right?"
Kaneki was shocked and impressed by her words.
To be honest, this was the first time in his life that he had met such a smart girl. Especially when she spoke, her cunning was exactly like their military advisor.
Achai, who was riding in front, did hear the conversation between the two.
He didn't look back, but the depth in his eyes became much deeper.

The sunset at the border brings with it the vast scenery unique to the edge of the desert.
The towering city tower is at the foot of the continuous mountains. Passers-by hurried forward and squeezed into the city just before the city gate closed.
Unlike other people who were allowed to leave only after being questioned, Achai and his group entered the city without any questioning.
The others went straight to the base. Achai took Jinmu and several other soldiers and "escorted" Wenwan's carriage to a remote courtyard.
The courtyard with two entrances and two exits is not big, but it has everything.
The person in charge was an old lady with gray hair. Ah Chai called her the dumb lady, and as her name suggested, she could not speak.
Ah Chai did not dismount, but raised his whip and pointed in Wen Wan's direction, and ordered:
"I'll send a few people to guard the yard. She can't leave the yard during this period. Apart from that, we can meet her needs in other aspects."
The mute woman nodded and made a few more gestures in sign language.
Not knowing what she said, Achai was stunned at first, and then his face turned abnormally red for a moment.
He looked at Wen Wan meaningfully, and it was unknown what idea he had come up with, as a playful look flashed across his eyes.
Then he responded to the mute woman in sign language.
The mute woman was surprised and happy, clapping her hands repeatedly, as if she was happy for him.
Wen Wan didn't understand sign language and could only watch the two people communicating information in front of her that she didn't understand.
But she had a hunch that judging by Achai's temperament, he probably didn't hold his fart well!
Jinmu followed A Chai away, and the remaining four soldiers automatically retreated to guard outside the yard.
Only the mute woman was left in the yard, and she smiled at Wen Wan in a friendly manner.
Don't hit someone who smiles at you, let alone a disabled old woman.
Even though Wen Wan was dissatisfied with Achai, she couldn't vent her anger on such a kind-looking old man.
The mute woman led Wen Wan to a side room and took out a brand new quilt and pillow from the cabinet.
The quilt is made of soft, high-quality silk, and its color is a festive red. There are also pairs of happy mandarin ducks embroidered on the top of the quilt.
"Mute, why does this look like a wedding quilt?"
"I'm new to your house. It's inappropriate to use a quilt with this pattern, isn't it?"
"Mute, do you have a plainer quilt?"
She didn't know whether the mute woman could understand her, so she could only talk to herself, praying that the mute woman could hear but couldn't speak.
Who knew that reality always develops in the cruelest direction.
The mute woman pointed to her ears, indicating that her hearing was not very good, sometimes better and sometimes worse.
Wen Wan made a bitter face and tried to point at the mandarin duck pattern on the quilt, "This is not good, it doesn't fit..."
The mute woman smiled, nodded at her repeatedly, and gave her a thumbs up.
Well, we are talking at cross purposes and there is no way we can communicate at all.
Zhou Cai, you are so cruel!
Wen Wan gave up struggling and could only comfort herself. It was just a quilt. Pulling it over her body was just a tool to keep warm. It had no practical meaning!
Apart from not being able to go out, Wen Wan actually adapted very well to living in this small courtyard.
The mute woman is a capable person, especially good at cooking. The food she cooks is a hundred times more delicious than that of the old chef in the general's mansion.
The mute woman was kind and enthusiastic, and seemed to have used all her strength to take care of Wen Wan in every possible way.
Wen Wan would sleep until she woke up naturally every morning, and the mute woman would bring her a delicious breakfast.
After breakfast, the mute woman would take her to the back garden to digest the food.
It turned out that in addition to the mute woman, there were seven or eight children in this yard, aged between five and eleven or twelve.
The children are at the age when they love to play and are not shy about strangers.
In addition, no one knew how the mute woman explained it to them, but these children were not at all opposed to Wen Wan who suddenly moved in, and were even very enthusiastic.
Whenever Wen Wan appeared, the children would gather around her to play with her. When she got tired of playing with the children, there were thousands of storybooks in the study to help her pass the time.
After a few days, Wen Wan seemed to have returned to the leisurely days in the general's mansion.
Apart from not being able to leave the yard, Wen Wan couldn't find any fault with such days.

Border town military camp.
After commanding the soldiers to practice formations for a whole day on the training ground, the man in the dragon robe and armor put away his sword and strode towards the camp.
He took off his helmet, revealing his resolute and handsome face.
If Wen Wan were here, she would definitely recognize that the man wearing the general's armor was the young lieutenant Achai who had a flawed character as she mentioned.
Zhou Cai was a name he picked randomly. His real name was Chen Yu, and he was the second son of Wang Chenlian, the only person of a different surname in the Duan Dynasty.
Jinmu held up a kettle and handed it over. Shen Yu took it, pulled out the cork, tilted his head back and drank half of the kettle, then seemed to remember something.
He paused and asked, "How has that girl reacted these days?"
Kaneki's face was filled with hesitation, as if he was weighing his words. "General, do you want to hear the truth?"
"Heh," Shen Yu's eyes darkened, "If you want to go to the training grounds to practice for another two hours, you can also lie."
