Chapter 90: A Girl

Chapter 90 A Girl

Wen Wan glared, "Is there a story between the girl selling cakes and Ah Chai?"

Chen Zhou tilted his head and thought for a moment, "What do you mean by having a story?"

Wen Wan explained, "So they were together before?"

"How is that possible?" Chen Zhou rolled his eyes at her. "Brother Chai doesn't like that pockmarked girl. My brother Chai said he likes girls with big breasts and big butts who can give birth to sons."

Wen Wan looked suspicious, "Did he really say that?"

Chen Zhou: "Really, it's absolutely true. If you don't believe it, just ask Brother Chai when he comes back."

"I won't ask." Wen Wan stood up and walked away awkwardly.

Go back to the room.

Wen Wan straightened her chest in front of the mirror, then frowned. It seemed that her chest needed some help?

In the afternoon, when Butler Li came to deliver daily necessities, Wen Wan called Butler Li aside.

"Papaya?" Steward Li stroked his beard, looking somewhat embarrassed. "There are no papaya trees in the border town. If you want to buy papaya, you can only buy it from wandering merchants. Since Miss Xiaowan wants to eat some, I'll have my men ask where they can buy it."

Wen Wan smiled and said, "Thank you very much, Uncle Li. By the way, don't spread this matter."

Butler Li seemed to understand, "Eating a few bites of fruits is not something to be ashamed of, and there is no need to hide it. But Miss Xiaowan said not to spread the news, so I won't tell anyone."

"Yeah. That's good." Wen Wan still trusted Butler Li's character.

Butler Li is a man of action. The task that was just asked of him in the afternoon was already taken care of by the evening.

He specially sent someone to tell Wen Wan that in a few days some traveling merchants would come from the south and, as usual, they would sell papayas.

Wen Wan rewarded the little girl who brought the news with a few copper coins. She was in a good mood, had a good appetite, and ate an extra bowl of rice.

After dinner, she took Chen Zhou to the yard to digest the food. After walking a few steps, Agui hurriedly ran into the yard.

During this period, Agui basically walked outside. Following Wen Wan's instructions, he inquired about the big and small things happening in the city.

But most of them were insignificant, and this was the first time I saw him look flustered.

"Something happened."

These three words startled both Wen Wan and Shen Zhou.

Ah Gui said, picking up the important points, "On my way back home earlier, I ran into a familiar-looking brother. He was one of the men who followed Captain Zhou to the Mobei border."

Hearing this, Wen Wan's expression changed, "Did something happen to Ah Chai and the others?"

Agui nodded with difficulty.

"He came back to report the news. It was said that General Shen and his entourage were trapped in the Forgotten Valley. I'm afraid... they are in danger of death."

When Agui said the last few words, his whole body was shaking.

Wen Wan also flashed and asked in a cold voice, "Is the news reliable?"

"Reliable. That brother looks familiar, and he's carrying a token from the general. He came back to get reinforcements, and he also has three letters on him."

"One letter is for the border town garrison, one is for Steward Li, and the other one..."

As Agui spoke, he took out a letter from his arms and handed it to Wen Wan, "This is for you."

It was called a letter, but it was just a piece of coarse cloth with blood stains on the edges. It looked like a message left in a hurry.

Just by looking at this piece of coarse cloth, one can feel how many hardships the messenger went through before bringing it back.

Wen Wan grabbed the coarse cloth letter and unfolded it immediately.

"If I die, you can entrust the rest of my life to Gao Ling."

Just this one sentence, written with charcoal, shows how urgent the situation was.

Wenwan's expression was terrifying, and her heart was filled with mixed feelings.

At the moment of life and death, he was still thinking of her, she should be touched.

But after making arrangements for his funeral, he actually entrusted her to another man?

Did he really think she was a slow-moving commodity, and that without him, she would never find a man in her life?

He would make plans for her!

Wen Wan tightly gripped the coarse cloth, her eyes filled with coldness.

She told Agui, "Pack your things and go to the border town garrison camp."

Agui was startled for a moment, then understood, "Are you going to the Mobei border with me?"

"right."

Wenwan's eyes were firm and she didn't retreat at all.

Agui licked his lips and said, "Miss Xiaowan, I know you are worried about the captain's safety, but that place is not for ordinary people to go. I will go with you and will send you a message as soon as I have any news."

Wen Wan insisted, "No. I have to go in person."

"You are a girl..."

Before Agui could finish his words, Wenwan's sharp gaze swept over him.

"I'm a girl, but I helped your captain fight against a larger force at the Mountain God Temple and break through the massive siege of the Mobei people."

"I am a girl, but I rescued your captain from the clutches of death from a collapsed ancient tomb."

"As a young girl, I deceived everyone and made Meng Jin return empty-handed from the Shen Mansion. Since then, I have never dared to set foot in the Shen Mansion again."

She asked coldly, "So, what's wrong with me being a girl?"

Agui was speechless after being criticized.

Wen Wan was still not satisfied. "Even with your captain's abilities, he's still trapped in the Forgotten Valley. This means that the situation we're trapped in can't be broken by force alone. If that's the case, perhaps I could be of use there?"

Agui couldn't deny that in terms of intelligence, Miss Xiaowan was definitely not inferior to the military advisor of the border town garrison.

"But... the captain will definitely not let you take risks."

"How can this be considered a risk?" Wen Wan advised, "I'm just tagging along. If I can't help, even if it's a wasted trip, it won't be a big loss. But what if I can help? Wouldn't that be a profit?"

Ah Gui sighed helplessly, "I'm not good at talking, I can't beat you in an argument."

Wen Wan: "Okay, time is running out, don't delay."

Only then did Agui agree and immediately went into the house to pack his things.

Chen Zhou, who was standing by, turned around and ran into the house, "I'll pack my things and go with you."

Wen Wan didn't say much. After Chen Zhou entered the house, she took a rope and tied the door.

Agui came out with a bag on his back and saw Chen Zhou knocking on the door inside.

Wen Wan stood at the door and said to Chen Zhou inside: "Chen Zhou, you better stay in the border town. Don't forget, it was you who said that there are still dumb women and younger brothers and sisters in the side courtyard to support."

After a pause, she smiled sadly and added:

"If your brother Chai and I can't come back, the only one that Mute Po and my brothers and sisters can rely on is you. So you better behave yourself and don't come with us."

Chen Zhou was so anxious that he cried, but every word Wen Wan said made sense and he couldn't refute it.

"Sister Xiaowan..."

Chen Zhou shouted softly several times, and in the end only sobs remained.

Wen Wan's eyes also turned red, and she turned around and said to Agui, "Let's go."

Agui responded, looked back and followed her.

In the room, Chen Zhou saw some uneaten pastries on the table. One of the pieces was missing a corner, which was left after Wen Wan took a bite.

Parting always comes suddenly and so hastily that there is not even time to say goodbye properly.
