"Did he take it?"
"I think so. I collected it..."
Xu Qingzhou leaned back in his chair with a sense of relief and accepted the gift. This should mean... that Fu Qian didn't hate him as much anymore.
The phone on the desk vibrated. Few people called Xu Qingzhou's personal number, so most of the time he would leave his public number for his assistant to answer the phone.
The notification on the screen shows that Fu Qian has requested to add you as a friend.
His slender fingers hovered above the screen, and then he clicked on it in disbelief. WeChat was still stuck on the friend request interface.
Without even thinking about it, Xu Qingzhou directly approved Fu Qian's application.
What to say? Hello?
Xu Qingzhou's mind was in a mess. He remembered the emoticons he had saved from Xu Nuo before. There were some with little rabbits and some with little dogs. They all looked cute.
Zhou: [Puppy waving.jpg]
Fu Qian didn't know if he was busy or doing something else, and he didn't reply. The screen went dark and then lit up again by Xu Qingzhou. The chat interface was empty, but the puppy was still waving tirelessly.
Ten minutes later, Fu Qian finally sent a message.
Fu Qian: Mr. Xu, are you free tonight?
It was a perfectly normal sentence, yet it was inexplicably misinterpreted to have a hint of ambiguity and allure. Xu Qingzhou rubbed his blushing face and carefully typed each word on the screen.
Boat: Yes
Fu Qian: I have something I want to talk to you about in person. Would you like to have dinner together tonight?
Xu Qingzhou himself didn't notice that a smile unconsciously appeared on his face, like a young boy in love, so much so that he completely ignored what Fu Qian said he should say in person.
Zhou: Okay! What do you like to eat? I'll order.
Fu Qian: I’m fine with anything, as long as Mr. Xu decides.
The working hours, which were usually not enough, became particularly long today. Xu Qingzhou simply had no intention of dealing with those boring documents in the afternoon. He went straight home and focused on getting himself ready.
The suit is not good-looking and too rigid, although Fu Qian looks more rigid.
His neatly combed hair made him look old. Although Fu Qian was the same age as him, Xu Qingzhou was always afraid that he would appear too mature and unpopular after managing the company for a long time. Xu Nuo always said that he looked like a male mother, although he didn't understand what she meant.
It was already 4:30 when I changed my clothes, and there was still more than half an hour before the time I had agreed to meet Fu Qian.
Xu Qingzhou, wearing a light grey sweatshirt and casual pants, drove alone to the Japanese restaurant they had booked. His assistant said the atmosphere there was great and very suitable for couples in their ambiguous period.
Xu Qingzhou blushed when he heard this, but he pretended to be calm and turned around to book a private room for tonight.
Fu Qian arrived a little earlier than him. When Xu Qingzhou arrived, Fu Qian had just taken off his suit jacket. The thin white shirt was tightly wrapped around his solid but not exaggerated muscle lines as the man moved.
"Mr. Xu, good evening," Fu Qian looked up and saw him and nodded.
"Good...evening." Xu Qingzhou panicked for a moment, then quickly calmed down. "This is for you."
Even without him saying it, Fu Qian noticed it. It was a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which looked like they had been carefully arranged and packaged by the person who delivered them. Even someone like him who didn't know much about flowers couldn't find it difficult to tell.
"Thank you," Fu Qian took it. The young man in front of him had changed his attire today. He looked more energetic than his usual steady and mature style. The combination of delicate and soft qualities on an adult male did not seem out of place. Instead, it gave Xu Qingzhou a special temperament that was different from others.
Not annoying, but rather particularly likable, making one want to get close to him.
"Mr. Xu, I asked you out today to say..."
"No... no rush," Xu Qingzhou interrupted with a red face. Whether it was a direct showdown or agreeing to his request for responsibility, for him now, it would take a while to buffer, "Let's order first."
Fu Qian nodded, and the two of them ordered a large table of food. Xu Qingzhou also ordered two bottles of sake.
The dishes were almost served. The chef’s cooking skills were quite good. Xu Qingzhou couldn’t help but think of the way Fu Qian cooked with an apron on during the live broadcast. It should be even more delicious than this, right?
There was a whole grilled eel on the table, fragrant and covered with thick sauce. Fu Qian looked at it for a few seconds, probably wanting to eat it, but ultimately did not pick up his chopsticks.
"Don't you like eel?"
Fu Qian smiled, and the light reflected from the lenses passed through Xu Qingzhou's eyes.
"I was pricked by a fish bone when I was a child, so I don't like to eat anymore."
Before he finished speaking, the cook left after finishing her meal. Little Fu Qian picked out the fish meat for himself as before, but he was a child after all, so he couldn't pick out all the bones and swallowed one without hesitation.
He was too young to understand anything, but the fish bone stuck in his eye made him feel uncomfortable and sore. The child was simply afraid of dying, so he cried and called his father and mother. His father's phone rang and then hung up. He didn't know whether he was at work or having an affair.
The mother did answer the phone, but lost interest when she heard him crying. The music on her end was deafening, and she couldn't hear the child's request. After a while, she hung up.
Later, Fu Qian ran out of the house by himself and was sent to the hospital and then back by the community security guard.
Even though many years had passed, that feeling of despair and helplessness, as if he was on the verge of death, still appeared in his dreams.
"Are you suffering from a psychological trauma?" Xu Qingzhou dragged the plate of eels in front of him and picked out the large pieces of fish and put them away.
"Eels don't have those little burrs that are hard to spot. Let me pick out the meat for you... This place grills the eels whole, and they look really fresh... When Nono was little, he always refused to eat fish and always had to be fed..."
He unconsciously opened up his chatterbox, and when he talked about something interesting, a smile appeared on his face, and he was a little talkative. Fu Qian felt that Xu Qingzhou was particularly warm. His heart, which had been frozen for a long time, seemed to want to break out of the ground.
