"Grandpa, what time is it now?" Xu Nuo lay on the bed and looked up at Wang Hai.
"Your Majesty, it is already noon."
Xu Nuo just felt groggy, "I... haven't gone to court yet."
"Your Majesty is ill and confused. The Regent has been handling government affairs on your behalf these days..." After Wang Hai finished speaking, he suddenly remembered that Xu Nuo was most taboo about this. He was about to kneel down tremblingly when he heard Xu Nuo speak.
"Oh, thank you for your hard work, Prince Regent. Please send some rewards to the Prince Regent's Palace."
Wang Hai was unsure about the promised "reward" and asked hesitantly, "This old servant is dull and stupid, so I dare to ask Your Majesty for guidance."
Xu Nuo was puzzled. "It's just some gold, silver and jewelry. What else is there?"
Although Wang Hai was puzzled as to why His Majesty was so kind to the Regent today, he still respectfully did as he was told.
The head maid Biyu came in with Chinese medicine, "Your Majesty, it's time to take the medicine."
Xu Nuo looked at the bowl of black and sticky Chinese medicine and shrank into the quilt timidly. Witnessing this childish scene, Biyu raised her eyebrows in surprise, but then suppressed her emotions and knelt down obediently with the medicine in her hands.
Wang Hai took the medicine and handed it to Xu Nuo, "Your Majesty, drink it while it's hot."
Even though Xu Nuo was extremely reluctant, he was still concerned about the emperor's personality, so he took the bowl of medicine and drank it in one gulp.
It was so bitter. So bitter that Xu Nuo's delicate eyebrows were twisted into a knot, and even tears were about to come out.
"Biyu, bring me some candied fruit."
Biyu was startled, then bowed and hurried to get it. The young emperor, seemingly intent on asserting his authority, rarely acted childishly. His handsome face was always stern, his brows shrouded in a sickly, gloomy expression, making him difficult to approach. Now, after taking his medicine, he was clamoring for candied fruit, which seemed to be in line with his youthful nature. Perhaps it was an illusion, but Biyu felt that the young emperor seemed even more obtuse than before. However, she could not recall what the old emperor looked like, as if her memory was veiled, hazy and unclear.
After Xu Nuo finished the candied fruit, the bitter taste in his mouth eased a little, and his head seemed less dizzy. With Wang Hai's support, Xu Nuo sat up against the bed.
"Where is the Regent now?"
"Your Majesty, His Royal Highness the Regent should be handling government affairs in the Imperial Study."
If it were the original Xu Nuo, he would have been furious and wanted to kick Xiao Jinyan out of his study, but now Xu Nuo just said "hmm" lightly, "Have those rewards been delivered?"
Wang Hai replied, "I've already sent someone to take away two boxes of gold and one box of pearls."
Xu Nuo smacked his lips and said, "It's a little less. Next time, I'll pick out some good things to send over."
Wang Hai didn't understand why, but he still responded.
"66, if I give my husband more money, will his impression of me improve?"
666 was silent for a moment. "Based on my analysis, the male protagonist will probably think you're flattering him and will be dismissive of your reward."
Xu Nuo looked up at the sky, "Is there really no room for redemption?"
666 consoled him, "Of course there is. It's only been less than a month since you and the male lead fell out. There's still a chance!"
Xu Nuo felt that the future was bleak, and the effect of the medicine also took effect, so he fell asleep in depression.
Meanwhile, in the imperial study, Xiao Jinyan didn't receive the enraged young emperor, but instead received several boxes of gold, silver, and jewelry. While not much, it was the first proper "reward" the young emperor had given him. Xiao Jinyan's indifferent gray eyes flickered, and he hummed a gentle "hmm," "Thank your majesty for me."
Logically, the young emperor should have called him "Uncle Emperor." However, the young emperor was very wary of him and never treated him well. He always resorted to trickery against him, not to mention giving him any rewards.
The leading eunuch had a layer of sweat on his forehead. He nodded quickly and retreated.
"Your Highness." Biyu walked out from the darkness and saluted Xiao Jinyan.
"Go ahead." Xiao Jinyan reviewed the memorial without even raising his head.
Biyu repeated everything she had promised in the morning.
Xiao Jinyan finally raised his head from the memorial and asked, "Are you sick and stupid?"
The people around him just lowered their heads and pretended to be deaf to his disrespectful words. For a moment, only Xiao Jinyan's voice could be heard in the huge palace.
"Go to Funing Palace."
In Funing Palace, Xu Nuo was soundly asleep on his bed, though his face was still pale, and he looked as frail as ever. Xiao Jinyan came and went in the palace, and no one dared to stop him. The same was true in the emperor's chambers. It was likely that, with the exception of Wang Hai, the rest of the palace servants were only pretending to obey the young emperor.
Xiao Jinyan stood in front of Xu Nuo's couch, watching the usually gloomy little emperor sleeping soundly without a care in the world. Wang Hai stood behind him, his fingers trembling with nervousness, unsure whether to wake the emperor.
Fortunately, Xu Nuo woke up on his own. The figure in front of the bed was very familiar. Xu Nuo rubbed his eyes and stretched out a slender white hand to touch Xiao Jinyan's Adam's apple.
With a crisp "pa" sound, Xiao Jinyan reflexively slapped his hand away, even though Xu Nuo's arm was not long enough to touch his body.
Xu Nuo was sobered up by the stinging pain in his hand. 666 was still reminding him in his mind, "Nuo Nuo! Wake up! The male protagonist is still your mortal enemy!"
Xu Nuo knew it of course, but looking at the red back of her hand, she still felt a pang of sadness in her heart, and it took a lot of effort to hold back the tears that were about to roll down.
Xiao Jinyan was also distracted for a moment, then lowered his head, "I am disrespectful, Your Majesty, please punish me."
Xu Nuo retracted his slender hand and hid it under the quilt, tilting his head to the inside of the bed. "It's okay, what's the matter, uncle?"
Xiao Jinyan had excellent eyesight. He saw the tears about to fall in the corners of the boy's eyes buried in the bright yellow quilt, and a strange feeling arose in his heart.
