Chapter 11
Entered the house.
Zhao Xiuzhi sat down on the kang, staring at the unfinished shoes.
Jing Xian quietly moved the half-finished shoes to the end of the kang, sat on the edge of the kang, blocked Zhao Xiuzhi's line of sight, and asked politely: "Sister-in-law, do you want some water?"
"It's okay to have a drink." Zhao Xiuzhi deliberately sat on the kang, her eyes never stopping, looking at the cabinet again, touching the warm kang head and saying, "Your kang is really warm, and the house is warm too. No wonder the two children don't go out to play. The two children in my family are not at home, they play outside all day long, and they have to be called to come back for dinner."
Jing Xian poured a jar of boiled water in front of Zhao Xiuzhi: "All children are like this."
"You two are the same. You can't withstand the cold when you go out. You run away when the wind blows. It's fine for you to stay at home." Zhao Xiuzhi looks down on Tiedan and Fusheng. She thinks Jingxian is so young and will have children sooner or later.
Can one’s own children be the same as those of others?
These two kids will have a hard time sooner or later.
Jingxian doesn't like what Zhao Xiuzhi says. Is it normal to talk like that in front of a child?
She asked coldly, "Sister-in-law, what's the matter with you coming here?"
"Oh, don't you want your two children to go to school next year? That's not possible." Zhao Xiuzhi, as an elementary school teacher, felt superior to other military families. Ma Shufen didn't have a job and just stayed at home cooking and doing housework, but she looked down on her at all.
So what if Jing Xian is pretty?
Isn't she just a straw beauty.
She is an elementary school teacher with a junior high school education. She is much better than other uneducated people.
"Why not?" Jing Xian watched the two children being frightened by Zhao Xiuzhi, and she became even angrier and spoke very rudely, "Our two children will be six years old at the beginning of the year. Even if they can't go after the New Year, they can still go to school in September next year, right?"
"They can go to school at the age of six? What can they do? Anyway, you don't work, so don't bother yourself. I heard about this and came to tell you. You don't have to use such good fabric to make shoes for the children. Let them stay at home and run around in straw sandals when the weather gets warmer. If you don't know how to weave straw sandals, ask the sister-in-law next door to teach you. She is very good at weaving straw sandals."
Zhao Xiuzhi wanted to touch it, but Fusheng immediately reached out to stop her and shouted, "This is mine, you can't touch it."
"Let me see what's wrong with this kid." Zhao Xiuzhi had a loud voice, a round face full of fat, and stared with eyes that looked quite fierce.
Fusheng was obviously afraid, but he didn't back down: "You can't touch my things!"
Zhao Xiuzhi was very unhappy. She thought Jingxian must dislike these two children, so she said loudly: "Jingxian, you have to teach these two children well. You beat them when they don't listen. How can you be so mean? You won't even let them be touched."
Jing Xian said calmly, "The shoes were originally made for them, so there's nothing wrong with them not letting others touch them."
"Just...what?" Zhao Xiuzhi stared at Jing Xian, unable to believe what she heard.
"Sister-in-law, do you have anything else to say? If not, I won't keep you here."
Zhao Xiuzhi was driven out by Jing Xian and stood at the door, still unable to believe it.
When he came to his senses, he clicked his tongue twice.
A young wife came over and saw Zhao Xiuzhi and asked, "Sister-in-law, why are you standing here?"
"Let me tell you something." Zhao Xiuzhi took the young wife to her side and told her what happened just now. Finally, she concluded, "I just came to my senses when I was standing outside. Captain Shang's young wife is not afraid of offending me at all. I'm afraid she did this because she doesn't want the two children to go to school. Look, she said she would send the children to school after the New Year, and I was talking to her about this in a nice way, but she kicked me out. Do you think she has bad intentions?"
The young wife said, "What a filthy, rotten thing. Even stepmothers are bad. We must live well."
"What's going on? What are you two talking about?" Another person came over.
Zhao Xiuzhi excitedly repeated what she had just said, and more and more people came.
Jing Xian didn't know that her reputation as a vicious stepmother had spread throughout the military region, and even if she knew, she wouldn't care. Whether she was vicious or not would naturally be proven in time.
She was very skillful and spent the whole morning cleaning the uppers of the shoes.
After the shoe is finished, you just have to wait for the sole to be ready before sewing it out and then putting the shoe on to wear.
"How about potato rice for lunch today? And cook some radish soup." The two children Jing Xian mentioned had never eaten it before.
Fusheng said, "Everything my mom cooks is delicious."
"Okay, I'll make potato rice for lunch."
Jingxian didn't care about the two children. She took three big potatoes, peeled them, cut them into finger-thick strips, and put them in a bowl. Fusheng and Tiedan boiled water, she took out the millet, and then scooped out the rice soup. She put oil in the pot and started to stir-fry over high heat.
After frying the potatoes, add the soup, pour in the half-cooked rice, and cover the pot.
"Just turn on the stove and cook it slowly. We'll have dinner when your dad comes back." Jing Xian saw that the stove was also turned on. She took out the cabbage hearts that she had saved that morning, broke them apart and put them in the casserole.
The casserole was not small, and it contained a large carrot, two choy sums, and a few shrimps for seasoning.
Tiedan was in charge of lighting the fire, and Fusheng was in charge of watching the stove.
Jing Xian processed the scallop meat and put it into the clay pot to cook. She had eaten a lot these days and almost forgot about the scallops. The scallop shells were thrown aside. The two children washed them in a basin and placed them on the stove. After they dried, the two children played with them as toys.
It's gloomy outside and it looks like it's going to snow.
Shang Nanchen walked in against the cold wind and saw his wife and children in the outer room. He subconsciously asked, "Is there anything else you want to do?"
Jing Xian: "Set the table and eat."
Tiedan didn't move. He tilted his head back and said, "Dad, go get the table. I need to light a fire."
"Dad, I'm watching the stove and can't leave."
Fusheng was sitting by the stove, holding two shells in his hands. It was unclear whether he was playing with them or warming himself by the fire.
"Okay, I'll take it!"
Shang Nanchen took off his military coat and put it on the kang. The kang was very warm and could drive away the moisture. It was still warm when he put it on.
Jingxian served the potato rice, and Shang Nanchen took it and carried it to the inner room. Tiedan thought his work was done, so he stood up to get the bowl and chopsticks. Fusheng was still holding his ground, and when he saw his father coming over, he refused to let him take anything.
"You have to ask my mother if she lets you take it?" Fusheng was obviously still a little afraid of Shang Nanchen, but he didn't dare to stop him.
Shang Nanchen turned his head to look at Jing Xian who was laughing secretly: "Take this up?"
"Take it."
Jing Xian spoke, and Shang Nanchen lowered his head and said to Fusheng: "Can I take it away?"
Fusheng said in a serious tone, "Bring it."
Shang Nanchen was very sensitive to the snickering sound, and he turned around to look at Jing Xian, feeling more relaxed than ever before. He said to Fusheng seriously, "Then I'll take it away."
He took it and went into the house, and heard Fusheng complain: "Dad is so slow! It's not like I stopped him from taking it."
Shang Nanchen: “…”
Is this brat losing his memory?
Who was the person who just stopped him from taking it?
Jing Xian couldn't help laughing again, and the two children followed suit. Shang Nanchen stood in the room, listening to the cheerful laughter from the outer room through a curtain, and felt that this cold winter day was actually warmer than summer.
Potato rice, radish soup, meat and shrimp. Although it is light, it tastes really good.
There are two bowls in front of each person, one for rice and one for soup.
The two children were burping while eating.
Shang Nanchen paid for the rest of the meal.
The children had their fill and lay on the kang, reciting ancient poems taught by Xian in the background.
Shang Nanchen took the initiative to wash the dishes, and Jing Xian also came out from the inner room, intending to talk to Shang Nanchen.
"What's up?"
Jing Xian raised her eyebrows. This guy was really sharp. He guessed that she had something to say when she came out and didn't even stand firmly.
If this guy were to live in the end times, he would probably have a large group of people following him and set up a safe zone on his own.
"Zhao Xiuzhi is here today."
Jing Xian directly said the name. Shang Nanchen was stunned for a moment before he realized who she was talking about. He frowned and said, "Is she here for something?"
"Well, she said that the two children can't go to school next year, so they have to stay at home for two more years." Jing Xian didn't exaggerate, her tone was flat and straightforward without any fluctuations, as if she was repeating it for the sake of repeating it.
.
"She's not the principal, so her words won't work." Shang Nanchen spoke in a low voice, and he lowered his voice for the last sentence. "When your work is settled, send them to school. If it doesn't work, just repeat the grade one more time."
Jing Xian was a little surprised: "Did you tell the people at the hospital?"
"Not everyone can enter the hospital. You just wait a moment. I guess the hospital will need to review it when the time comes." Shang Nanchen didn't say anything, but Jing Xian understood it clearly in her heart.
Not everyone can do her job.
It is only right to go through some formalities.
Jing Xian was in a good mood and couldn't help but impart some knowledge to Shang Nanchen: "Is the food in your cafeteria not very good?"
"Who told you that?" Shang Nanchen couldn't help but look back at her, "Our food is very good."
"Whatever you say is fine." As if she said nothing.
Shang Nanchen hates it most when people leave things unsaid: "Just say whatever you want to say and finish it."
"You think the food in your army cafeteria is good, so what else can I say?" There is no point in saying it.
"Then tell me, why do you think the food in our army is not good?" When Shang Nanchen stared at people, it made people feel very pressured.
If it were anyone else, they would probably be frightened by Shang Nanchen.
Jing Xian was not afraid. She had experienced more terrifying looks than this.
"If the food was good, would you be like a telephone pole?" The disdain in Jing Xian's eyes was too obvious.
Shang Nanchen wanted to refute, but after thinking about it carefully, he realized that what the other person said was right.
Jing Xian looked at his stupid look and burst out laughing. Before Shang Nanchen could get angry, she said seriously, "Supplies are in short supply right now, but the troops must not only ensure that the soldiers are well fed, but also well fed."
Shang Nanchen's brows were tightly furrowed.
Jing Xian continued, "I know that your troops have pig farms that raise pigs and kill them for food. But it's not enough to just eat meat, you have to eat other things too."
As soon as an expert opens his mouth, he will know whether it exists or not.
Shang Nanchen rarely spoke seriously: "How do we eat it?"
"Fish, shrimp, meat, vegetables and fruits. Not to mention every meal, but also a combination of meat and vegetables, with more variety. I guess you don't have any soup to drink, just boiled water, right?" Jing Xian knew it by looking at Shang Nanchen's expression.
"A sip of soup before meals will keep you long-lived and healthy. Drink a sip of hot soup in winter and see for yourself." Shang Nanchen knew the benefits without Jing Xian saying much.
He humbly asked, "Anything else?"
Jing Xian smiled and said, "When your leader comes, I'll show you."
