Meeting the Rival
Xiao Heng hurried to the door, but stopped.
He didn't want to rush in and make Bai Miaoke unhappy, so he stood outside the door and listened.
The elegant rooms in Lanyue Tower were well soundproofed, but Xiao Heng was a martial artist after all, so he could vaguely hear conversations coming from inside by concentrating through the crack in the door.
One of the voices was very familiar to him, it was Bai Miaoke.
Another deep male voice responded from time to time.
The two people seemed to be having a pleasant conversation, because he heard Bai Miaoke's bell-like laughter, but he could not hear the specific content.
He stood outside the door, somewhat at a loss.
In the past, the people that Mr. Bai arranged for her to meet were either of bad character or people that Bai Miaoke didn't want to meet. But who was it this time that not only did she meet him, but she also had such a happy chat with him?
While Xiao Heng was outside imagining things, the two people in the room had almost finished eating, but one was a little drunk and the other was almost done too.
The drunk one was Bai Miaoke. Perhaps the story King Kang told today was too heavy, and she wanted to drink to drown her sorrows, so she drank a lot more than usual.
Lu Yu was very restrained, but he had a normal alcohol tolerance to begin with, and after Bai Miaoke drank too much, she insisted on toasting him with wine, so he drank quite a bit reluctantly. Although he felt dizzy at the moment, he was still sober and rational.
He poured Bai Miaoke a cup of tea and listened to her chattering about interesting things from her childhood.
I didn't expect her to be so naughty when she was a child. Lu Yu curled up the corners of her lips unconsciously and listened to her illogical chattering with a smile. The expression on her face was unprecedentedly gentle.
The woman in front of him had a faint blush on her cheeks, and Lu Yu couldn't help but think of the phrase "a face as red as a peach blossom". This was probably what it meant. The woman's eyes became wet after she got drunk, lacking the usual clarity and brightness, but instead adding a hazy charm.
Lu Yu felt his face getting hot. Was he drunk too? He asked himself in confusion and clarity.
Suddenly, the girl who was smiling foolishly just now burst into tears.
From her broken voice, I could piece together some words like her mother had left her and she missed her very much.
Listening to her crying, he felt his drunkenness gradually wear off.
He hesitated for a moment before reaching out and gently patting the woman's back, saying soothingly, "It's all over."
Unfortunately, drunks can't hear others talking.
Bai Miaoke was still crying, and her voice was intermittent and sobbing because of her crying.
Xiao Heng, who was standing outside the door, also vaguely heard the crying sounds from inside the house.
In his impression, Bai Miaoke rarely cried, and she always seemed heartless and carefree in front of him.
Hearing the woman's crying getting louder and louder, Xiao Heng couldn't wait any longer. He clenched his fists, not caring whether it would be bad for him to rush in like this.
The door was not locked, so he pushed it open.
Although I was still worried about her just now, when I saw the scene in front of me, I felt my anger rising instantly.
The woman was sobbing, and the man next to her was patting her back and comforting her softly. To Xiao Heng, it seemed that Lu Yu's hand was more like hugging Bai Miaoke.
He couldn't bear to say a harsh word to Bai Miaoke. This man actually dared to bully her.
Xiao Heng shouted angrily: "Let her go!"
Faced with the man who suddenly broke in, Lu Yu was also a little confused. He looked at the man in front of him who was dressed in neat clothes, and was sure that he did not know the other person, so he did not move for a while.
When Bai Miaoke heard the angry scolding, she raised her head and blinked her tear-blurred eyes hard before she recognized the person.
"Xiao Heng, you're here, come and have a drink." Her voice was still choked with sobs.
As she spoke, she picked up the empty wine glass beside her and was about to pour him some wine. She held the wine jug and half poured and half poured a glass of wine, then asked him to sit down.
Seeing that she had stopped crying, Lu Yu calmly moved her hand away. Then she met Xiao Heng's murderous gaze. What she was thinking in her heart was that she could affectionately call a man Xiao Heng, so what was her relationship with this man?
Xiao Heng looked at Bai Miaoke's watery eyes, with some tears still in the corners of her eyes that had not been wiped away, and she was calling his name with red eyes.
He softened his tone unconsciously: "Don't cry, did he bully you? I'll teach him a lesson for you."
Lu Yu, who was standing by, saw the man's distressed and concerned expression and understood what he meant.
Lu Yu slowly took out a handkerchief and gently wiped away the remaining tears on Bai Miaoke's face, then prepared to help her wipe the wine off her hands.
Xiao Heng became even angrier. He didn't care about the man's identity and quickly walked to the table where Lu Yu and Bai Miaoke were sitting.
He pulled out a dagger from his waist and placed it across Lu Yu's neck.
"Let go of her hand," he said viciously.
Lu Yu paused holding Bai Miaoke's wrist, and saw a drop of red wine sliding down the woman's jade-white wrist and disappearing out of his sight.
Lu Yu stuffed the handkerchief into Bai Miaoke's hand, then let go and said lightly: "I am her friend."
The dagger across his neck did not retreat at all.
Xiao Heng thought angrily, she can have so many friends, why does she only treat me as her brother.
As he thought of this, the dagger in his hand moved one step further and stuck to the skin on Lu Yu's slender neck, oozing out a trace of blood.
Feeling the stinging pain on his neck, Lu Yu stopped moving. He didn't know how his words had angered the man, but it was clear that his life was in danger.
He asked as calmly as he could: "You want to kill me?"
When Bai Miaoke heard his words, she gradually regained consciousness and turned to look at the two people in a stalemate.
Facing her gaze, Xiao Heng unconsciously moved the dagger in his hand a little further away.
Bai Miaoke blinked hard to see what the two were doing. She couldn't take care of crying for a moment, but she said to Xiao Heng with a choked voice: "What are you doing? Didn't I tell you not to kill the prime minister?"
Xiao Heng looked at Lu Yu in surprise. He was actually the prime minister.
Xiao Heng carefully looked at the man in front of him again. This handsome face indeed made him ignore the temperament of a superior in this man's every move.
He didn't want to displease her any more, so he obediently retracted the dagger.
He stepped forward and helped Bai Miaoke up, saying, "You are drunk. I will take you home."
Bai Miaoke pushed his arm away and said vaguely: "I can walk by myself."
As he said this, he was actually about to flip out of the window. Xiao Heng was shocked and didn't care about Lu Yu who was still sitting there. He followed Bai Miaoke and flipped out.
As soon as the two left, the room suddenly became quiet.
Lu Yu picked up the plain handkerchief that Bai Miaoke had dropped on the stool and held it in his hand. It seemed to still carry a faint scent of gardenia. He carefully folded the handkerchief and put it in his arms.
After what happened just now, his drunkenness completely dissipated, and he looked at the moonlight outside with a pair of cold eyes.
He couldn't help but start to think about what Bai Miaoke had just said. Did she or her friend intend to kill him? Why did they change their minds...
The faint pain in his neck brought him back to his senses, and he called out to the waiter.
In a moment, the shopkeeper came in himself.
When the shopkeeper saw the blood on Lu Yu's neck and looked around to see if there was anyone else in the room, he was shocked. How could he really not recognize this person as the Prime Minister?
So the shrewd shopkeeper lowered his head and didn't look or ask, pretending to be respectful and waiting for instructions.
"Please go outside and call my attendant over." Lu Yu said in a calm voice.
The shopkeeper quickly retreated in response.
Not long after, a waiter came in with Fugui.
Fugui was horrified when he saw the blood on his master's neck. He was so anxious that he couldn't speak clearly: "Master...Master, what happened to you?"
Lu Yu remained calm and said, "Help me bandage my wound first, and we'll deal with the rest when we get back home."
Fugui immediately found a piece of fine cloth and cleaned the wound on Lu Yu's neck. Fortunately, it was only a superficial injury, but the wound was indeed serious. If the blade had gone in half an inch further, he would have been in danger.
After roughly stopping the bleeding and bandaging the wound, Lu Yu and Fugui hurried downstairs. The shopkeeper politely sent them away and did not even take the money for the meal.
When they got on the carriage, Fugui finally couldn't hold back his doubts and asked a series of questions: "Who hurt the young master? Where is the girl who came out with the young master?"
Lu Yu pinched his eyebrows, not knowing how to describe what happened tonight.
He only said: "It was an accidental injury. The girl must have returned home."
He was right. Although Bai Miaoke walked unsteadily, her martial arts skills were not affected by drunkenness.
She flew towards Bai Mansion quickly, and Xiao Heng behind her had to use all his strength to barely catch up.
The two of them returned to the Bai family together.
Mr. Bai was still taking a walk in the yard to digest his food when he saw his daughter, who was drunk, followed by Xiao Heng, who was panting.
He frowned and asked, "Why do you drink so much?"
Bai Miaoke threw herself into Mr. Bai's arms and acted like a spoiled child: "Daddy, I miss you so much."
It has been many years since his daughter acted like this towards him. Mr. Bai remembered that when she was little, she always stuck to him like this.
He smiled and touched his daughter's head, saying, "You are so old, but you are still acting like a spoiled child. We just saw you this morning. Go back and pack up and get some rest. Be careful not to have a headache tomorrow."
Bai Miaoke reluctantly followed Chun Xing back to wash and pack up.
Mr. Bai asked Xiao Heng to stay, and the two of them sat at the stone table in the middle of the yard.
Xiao Heng first apologized: "Uncle, it's my fault that I didn't take good care of Xiao Ke and let her drink so much."
Mr. Bai waved his hand and said, "I don't want to tell you this. She has grown up. You are not obligated to be responsible for her."
Xiao Heng gave a bitter smile. Yes, with what identity could he restrict her? He was not willing to restrict her. What he loved was her who was as free as a butterfly.
Mr. Bai continued, "You have been my childhood friend since I was a child. I wanted to adopt you because you are a good kid. But you refused, and then I realized how much you loved Xiao Ke."
"I only have this one daughter. I have spoiled her since she was young. Everything is done according to her wishes, especially her lifelong affairs. If she is also interested in you, I will naturally support her with both hands; if she is not interested in you..."
Mr. Bai didn't finish the rest of his words and just patted him on the shoulder.
As a person who has experienced this, how could he not see that his daughter only treated this childhood sweetheart who grew up with her as a brother, and sometimes even as a younger brother...
This kid has a long way to go.
He was not in a hurry at all. If his daughter never got married, he would support her for the rest of her life. If she met the right person, he also hoped that she would bravely pursue her own happiness.
This was all he could say to Xiao Heng; young people had to solve their own problems.
