Reunion
In the evening, Bai Miaoke cooked a table of dishes herself. Thanks to the practice she gained during the time she lived in the small town with Lu Yu, the dishes she cooked now, although not particularly delicious, looked and presented well.
"Xiao Ke can also cook, that's amazing."
Uncle Yu started praising the food as soon as he opened his mouth. He couldn't wait to pick up some shredded potatoes with chopsticks, but the food got stuck in his throat and he couldn't swallow it or spit it out. It was too salty!
Facing his smiling niece, Uncle Yu still swallowed it with gritted teeth.
"Uncle, have some water." Bai Miaoke looked at his flushed face and considerately poured him a glass of water.
Uncle Yu took it and drank it all.
Zhu Yu looked at her uncle's reaction curiously, and picked up a piece of the golden braised chicken wing next to her with chopsticks in a somewhat strange way. She was immediately moved to tears by the spiciness.
Bai Miaoke didn't need to say anything, she took the initiative to get a glass of cold water and drank it.
"Wow, it's so spicy!" Zhu Yu fanned his mouth with his hand and looked at Bai Miaoke sadly.
Bai Miaoke lowered her eyes to hide the smile in her eyes, pretending to be embarrassed and said: "It's my fault for not being a good cook. Otherwise, don't eat it."
"I've been cooking for the whole afternoon, just throw it away."
After saying that, he pretended to serve the dishes, but Zhu Yu quickly stopped him.
"No, cousin, it's delicious." Zhu Yu said and looked at Uncle Yu.
The latter also nodded in agreement: "As long as it's made by Xiaoke, it's delicious, put it down quickly."
Bai Miaoke was delighted and sat back down again, watching the two of them eat the food and drink the water, and finish the two dishes she had specially cooked.
"Uncle, cousin, it's great to have you." Bai Miaoke said sincerely.
But the two of them didn't respond to her and both lay on the table.
Bai Miaoke curled the corners of her lips. The recipe for the drug that she learned from Zhu Yu was really effective. She put some of it in the food and some in the water.
In order to prevent being discovered by Zhu Yu, she needed to combine the two to be effective, which allowed her to succeed.
She took out a medicine bottle from Zhuyu's brocade bag, leaned in to smell it, and smelled the scent of several herbs she had learned, and then swallowed a pill directly.
Bai Miaoke felt that this should be the antidote. Although there was some element of gambling involved, she was indeed right in her bet.
After two quarters of an hour, Bai Miaoke moved her wrist and felt her Qi sea filling up for the first time in a long time.
Then he carried his uncle and his cheap cousin into the house and gently placed them on the bed. The effect of the drug had not yet expired.
"Have a good sleep." She closed the door and left the room.
He took a deep breath and jumped out of the wall, taking a deep breath of free air.
I looked around but didn't see any guards. There were guards day and night before. What happened today?
Bai Miaoke was a little confused, but still walked out with swagger.
Until a noisy sound came from the moon gate in the backyard.
She hid behind the rockery and secretly observed the movements over there.
It seems that two groups of people are confronting each other.
"Mr. Lu, you are the guest of the master, what does this mean?"
"Our young master just wants to go in and take a look, what's wrong with that?!" Bai Miaoke recognized it and it seemed to be Fugui's voice.
"The head of the family has ordered that no one is allowed to enter the backyard! Otherwise, don't blame us for being rude."
"We must go in today!" Fugui was not to be outdone.
Just as the atmosphere was beginning to become tense.
Bai Miaoke walked out from behind the rockery and ran to the Moon Gate in a few steps. The girl's crisp voice was full of wantonness and flamboyance: "If he is not allowed to go in, can I come out?"
After saying that, he pulled out the long whip from his waist and swung it so hard that the air was making a sound, then he walked straight in front of Lu Yu.
Looking at his much thinner face, although still handsome, it looks a bit more vicissitudes and desolate.
Bai Miaoke frowned distressedly, but now was not the time to talk about love.
The guards arranged by Lord Xu looked at her in surprise, not knowing how she got out. They were ordered to guard but they didn't know that Bai Miaoke had extraordinary martial arts skills, and they just thought she was an ordinary girl.
Seeing that she came out, he couldn't report to Lord Xu and wanted to lock her up.
Seeing the guards approaching, Rong Qing's Jinyiwei also drew their swords. Bai Miaoke waved her hand and said, "I've been bored for several days. I'll stretch my muscles."
As soon as she finished speaking, she rushed forward like the wind, and the long whip in her hand left an afterimage, directly knocking down the swords in the hands of the people in the front row.
As if that was not enough, she flashed to the side of the captain of the guards, tied him up without much effort, and rubbed him against the wall.
"Who else wants to fight? This is a good opportunity for me to vent my anger." Bai Miaoke stood there neither retreating nor giving in, and the other guards were so frightened that they dared not move.
So Bai Miaoke followed Lu Yu and swaggered out of the backyard, and the guards immediately went to inform Lord Xu.
The latter just shook his head and said, "Everyone has their own destiny," and didn't care about the matter anymore.
Bai Miaoke followed Lu Yu back to the courtyard where they stayed, and Fugui and others retreated tactfully.
There were only two people left in the room. Lu Yu was still staring at her blankly, as if she would disappear if she looked away.
Bai Miaoke reached out and stroked his face, smiling and said, "Do you miss me or don't you recognize me?"
Lu Yu reached out and held her hand, pressing it tightly against his. Feeling the warmth on her face, he whispered, "I searched all over Gusu but couldn't find you. Do you know how scared I was, Ke'er?"
"Thank goodness you're okay. If you were okay, I would also..."
Bai Miaoke covered his mouth and gently soothed him: "I'm fine, nothing will happen to me."
Lu Yu hugged her tightly, as if he wanted to embed himself into her bones. He lowered his head and buried it in her neck. He smelled the faint scent of gardenia, and then he felt a little relieved.
Bai Miaoke hugged him back tightly, and could truly feel that he had lost weight. His already obvious contours were now even more prominent.
She buried her face in his chest, and her voice came out muffled: "Things are a little complicated, let me tell you slowly, but you, why have you lost so much weight?"
After saying that, she gently pushed the man away, carefully looked at his increasingly otherworldly features, rubbed his cheek affectionately, and was determined to get him to eat more.
"I'm worried about you. Why did Lord Xu lock you up?" Lu Yu held her restless hands, wanting to confirm whether Lord Xu was a friend or an enemy.
Bai Miaoke cleared her throat and began to tell him what happened in the Yu family that year and the reason why Uncle Yu and Zhu Yu locked her up.
Even though she had digested it for several days, Bai Miaoke's eyes still teary when she mentioned it again.
Lu Yu did not disturb her. He just listened quietly as she sobbed and slowly told the whole story.
Lu Yu had investigated the Yu family's past before and knew some of the inside story, but after hearing the whole story, he couldn't help but clench his fists.
But he still comforted Bai Miaoke softly: "Ke'er, don't worry, I will definitely clear the Yu family's name."
"But this matter involves the late emperor, His Majesty..." Bai Miaoke also calmed down and analyzed the matter calmly.
"It doesn't matter. Even if Your Majesty disagrees, I will make this matter public." Lu Yu was aware of Bai Miaoke's concerns. If this matter were made public, it would involve royal secrets. For the sake of face and majesty, His Majesty might really want to suppress the matter.
In order to reassure Bai Miaoke, Lu Yu told her that he had recently discovered that Ma Hongzhe had instructed the Ministry of Works to secretly spend a large amount of silver to purchase food, fodder and military equipment.
"There has to be a place to put so many things. If we find them, it will be evidence." Bai Miaoke's mood improved again.
"Well, we're checking it out. I think we'll have some results in the next two days." Lu Yu patted the back of her hand soothingly.
After taking a look at the sky, Bai Miaoke grabbed his hand and said, "In that case, you should go meet my uncle and cousin now."
Concerned about harming their bodies, she used a very small dose of the drug, estimating that they should have woken up by now.
Bai Miaoke thought about going to take a look. She could either cooperate or make them worry.
As for bringing Lu Yu along, it was purely because he wanted to introduce him to his long-lost relatives.
Lu Yu's hand froze for a moment before he slowly shook it back, saying calmly, "Okay."
When the two walked back to the courtyard where Bai Miaoke had lived before, they saw from afar a number of servants standing at the door. They were stopped before they could get close.
Bai Miaoke had no choice but to shout through the door: "Uncle! Uncle, are you awake? Let me in!"
Lu Yu also said to the servant guarding the gate, "Please tell the elder that I have something important to tell you."
Soon a servant came over to pass on the message, and the two of them entered the house smoothly.
Lord Xu sat on the armchair in the middle, Uncle Yu sat on the edge of the bed leaning on a soft pillow, and Zhu Yu squatted in the corner preparing medicinal herbs.
After greeting Lord Xu, Bai Miaoke ran straight to the bedside to see Uncle Yu.
"Uncle, I'm sorry, I have to go out." Bai Miaoke scratched her head embarrassedly and sat aside obediently.
"This is Prime Minister Lu, right?" Uncle Yu didn't seem to want to argue with her, and instead asked Lu Yu who was standing beside him.
Ignoring the look of Xu Ge Lao who was enjoying the show, Lu Yu slowly walked to Uncle Yu, leaned forward slightly and said, "Yes, don't blame Ke'er, she only resorted to this desperate measure because she was worried about me."
Before Uncle Yu could say anything, Zhu Yu on the side said unhappily, "What kind of relationship do you have with Xiao Ke that makes you call her so intimate? I think you are just trying to trick the little girl."
Uncle Yu did not stop Zhu Yu from speaking impolitely. He just looked up and looked at Lu Yu indifferently, as if waiting for his answer.
"Brother-in-law, we are an engaged couple." Lu Yu was not angry, but just smiled and called him brother-in-law.
"No, no, I'm not worthy of being the Prime Minister's uncle. Besides, I think you're older than me..." Zhu Yu was sure that Lu Yu had deceived his cousin.
Bai Miaoke sighed helplessly and acted as a peacemaker: "Alright, alright, stop arguing. I came to Jiangnan just for this matter. Even if Lu Yu wasn't involved, I would still get to the bottom of it."
"I know you are all doing this for my own good, but there is a perpetrator for every wrong. The Yu family has lost so many lives and suffered so many years of injustice. How can we just let it go?"
Bai Miao said the last sentence while looking at his uncle, with great force.
Uncle Yu sighed, "Good boy, I understand. Just do it. It's time to clear your name."
Bai Miaoke laughed immediately, but her smile was mixed with tears.
Uncle Yu continued, "Xiao Ke, marriage is a serious matter and should not be treated lightly. In my opinion, you should still seek the opinions of your parents."
Bai Miao didn't want to argue about this matter, so she just obeyed.
Lu Yu thought a lot more. Uncle Yu's words were probably not directed at Bai Miaoke, but were a reminder to herself. Only after the approval of her parents and the matchmaker, she could feel that the road ahead was clear.
Lu Yu wished he could get to the bottom of this matter immediately and fly back to the capital.
Unfortunately, it was not so easy to investigate what happened more than 20 years ago, and we soon encountered the biggest obstacle.
