Chapter 37 Waves

Chapter 37 Waves

Night fell, the windows were open, the wind chimes on the eaves tinkled, and the bedside lamp cast a shadow on the wall. Feng Jian was stuffing clothes into his bag while listening to the chatter on the other end of the phone, "April, remember to bring your things."

"You mean to tell me not to forget to bring the hot sauce made by Sister Ling," Feng Jian stuffed the small red bottle on the table into the suitcase, "Don't worry, I put two bottles in, it's not enough for you."

"April, you're the best. Look at the pictures I sent you and help me choose which of these two skirts looks better on me."

Feng Jian folded the clothes and placed them on the bed with one hand, and opened his phone with the other hand, "Let's go for the blue one. The data shows that Senior Gan prefers blue."

"I think blue is better too...Wow, April, you actually tricked me!" A girl complained loudly from the other end of the phone.

"I didn't say anything. Someone admitted it himself."

"That's really cunning, April—"

Needless to say, you can imagine the girl's blushing face. Fengjian was humming a song and was about to turn off his phone when a call came in.

When he saw the name displayed above, Feng Jian was startled, "Well, Chiba, something suddenly happened, let's talk tomorrow."

"Okay, see you tomorrow."

Fengjia connected, and the boy's steady voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Kazama, it's me."

The sound of footsteps coming down the stairs hit his ears. Fengjian grabbed a coat, put it on, and ran out. Sister Ling poked her head out from the kitchen and asked, "Where are you going so late?"

"Yuan said he had something to talk to me about." She took the key from the door, and Sister Ling's voice urging her to come back early was blown away by the wind.

When Kazama hurried to the hospital on his bicycle, Sanada was leaning against the wall at the door, his hat brim covering most of his expression, and his figure was almost immersed in the darkness.

"How's it going?" Feng Jian braked to a stop, panting. "Still haven't found anyone?"

Sanada nodded silently. "Yanagi just checked the surveillance footage. Yukimura left the hospital alone at 5 pm. The nurse on duty said he'd be back at 7 pm, but they didn't notice anything unusual until two hours later."

"Others have gone to look for him near the hospital, but haven't found him yet." He pulled the brim of his hat and lowered his head. "I guess you might know where he went, but I'm sorry to call you out so late..."

"As a friend, I didn't notice his abnormality, and I am also responsible." Feng Jian stepped on the pedal again, "I will definitely find him."

After saying this, the wheels under his feet stepped on the road at a very fast speed, and soon sank into the dark blue street and disappeared.

The wind whistled in my ears, making my head ache. The streetlights shone blindingly brightly. After a long, steep climb, I reached the coastal road. Fengjian felt as if his lungs were about to burst. The salty sea breeze lashed me in the face, carrying with it the stifling summer heat and humidity. The seaside was deserted late at night, save for anglers sitting under a bridge, their lines of cold, white silk floating on the shimmering azure water.

She rode along the coastal road and asked the old men passing by if they had seen a boy of the same age as her, but she didn't get a positive answer. Her throat was dry and almost bleeding, so Fengjian had to stop to catch her breath, but her messy brain was working very fast at this moment.

Just like the hide-and-seek game he played as a child, Yukimura has shown a strong sense of self-esteem and a dark side since he was young. He likes to hide in a corner that others would think of first, but cannot find, and enjoys the pleasure of others scratching their heads but still unable to find him.

The first thing that comes to mind is...

"Thank you...but I just wanted to get closer and see the light in the sea."

The words Yukimura said when she and he first met at the beach suddenly flashed through her mind.

The light in the sea...

Feng Jian turned his head suddenly, his eyes falling on the empty bridge hole, but he could see the moon. If there was any place where one could see the light of the sea more clearly, there was no place better than that.

She parked the car on the side of the road, pushed open the small door that was only half a person's height and had a sign saying "No Trespassing" on it, walked down the spiral staircase, and slowly stopped when she saw the figure.

The young man sat on the stone at the edge of the bridge, his team uniform draped over his shoulders fluttering in the night wind, his wet hair sticking to his ears. The late night tide wet the stone wall, leaving shadows of varying depths. His thin figure was almost swallowed by the darkness.

"Ah..." Yukimura let out a short laugh when he turned around and saw the figure standing on the stairs, "I was discovered after all."

Feng Jian didn't say anything, but just sat down next to him and took out two almond candies from his pocket. "I guessed you must not have had dinner, so I brought these for you when I went out. These are the last two."

"You're not a kid anymore," Yukimura laughed slightly, but reached out to take it, peeled it and put it in his mouth. The sweet almond fragrance exploded on the tip of his tongue. He narrowed his eyes, and a faint smile appeared at the corners of his lips, but the smile did not reach his eyes.

Fengjian held her cheeks with both hands and stared at the sparkling sea. The sea water came up and wet her trouser legs. The damp coldness ran up along her ankles. "Everyone is very worried about you."

"Sorry," Yukimura lowered his head and stared at the seaweed in the water. "I just thought the weather was nice today, so I thought the night view at the beach would be nice too."

"Is it just because of this?"

“…”

The tide almost drowned out his voice. "Actually, ever since I got into junior high school, the burden of 'I'm the Minister of Rikkai University, and everything should be based on Rikkai University' has been on me..."

"Then you are very awesome." Feng Jian spread his hands.

Yukimura paused. "Everyone told me, 'As the president of Rikkai University, you should do this, you must do this.' I even started to think that this was the way it should be. Yes, I wanted to become so powerful that no one could surpass me, to become the faith of the team. But once that faith in invincibility collapses, no one will even care about the efforts you've made. Only now have I realized that no one even cares about my own inner thoughts."

"That's because you are the Son of God. You are God, so of course you cannot fail..."

The girl's matter-of-fact tone overlapped with the impression of the discussions behind her. The words seemed to be stuck, but rushed out faster than her brain could react.

"...I'm not."

"Well, that's what those people said about you, right Yukimura?" Kazama met Yukimura's stunned gaze. His voice was damp as if soaked by the sea, but his pupils were unusually bright. "Yes, you said it yourself. You are not a god. The one standing on the altar may not be a god, but someone more powerful than a god. Everyone makes mistakes. Why should you let your own excellence become a reason for others to attack you?"

"People who lock themselves in their rooms to think about life and go without food, water, or sleep for three days and three nights should be the ones who impose their ideas on others. They are dark inside and are not even living as human beings."

"Kazama..." Yukimura opened his eyes wide, and suddenly covered his lips and laughed, "This is the first time I've noticed that your lung capacity is so high."

As he spoke, he suddenly started coughing.

"Are you okay? There's no need to be so excited..." Kazama curled her lips and reached out to pat his back. Yukimura leaned on her shoulder.

"Actually, I..." He didn't finish his words. Her tense shoulders relaxed and she whispered, "Well, it's okay."

The sound of the tide surged up with the wet waves. Yukimura stood up straight and curled his eyes at him: "Yeah."

The embrace between them was as light as a breeze, but it was heavy with the tide.

"Yukimura."

"Well, what's wrong?"

Feng Jian turned his head and smiled at him, "Are you happy now?"

"Well, that's about it," Yukimura stood up quickly, smiling but walking back up the stairs, "Thank you so much, Kazama, for tonight."

"You're welcome," Feng Jian put his hands together, cracking his knuckles until they made a crackling sound. "Since you're happy, let's settle the score for all the worry you made us worry about, and for the side stitch I got while riding my bike to find someone."

Yukimura turned and ran.

"Yukimura, don't run!"

"Well, Kazama, I'm still a patient..."

"Resistance is futile. He knew he was a patient now. Why didn't he think of it when he was escaping alone before?!"

Under the street lights of the Ring Road, two figures were chasing each other. The wind blew their hair, and the waves gently hit the rocks, erasing all traces.
