A rumbling sound came from the ground, and a secret passage appeared.
Su Ziyang took out a handkerchief and gestured for the others to cover their noses like him. He then led the way down the secret passage.
As they ventured deeper into the secret passage, Su Ruojin understood why her second brother had told them to cover their noses.
Even if you cover your nose with a handkerchief, you can still smell the stench.
After walking for nearly half an hour, Su Ziyang finally signaled for the group to stop.
He gestured, indicating that he would go forward and investigate first.
After a while, he returned and waved for everyone to follow him.
After Su Ruojin and the others followed Su Ziyang through an iron gate and into a passage, everyone except Su Ziyang was puzzled by what they saw.
On both sides of the passageway were rooms, and the sounds of groans could be heard.
There were guards at the door of each room, but now these guards were lying on the ground, presumably because Su Ziyang had knocked them unconscious earlier.
"Second brother, where is this place?" Su Ruojin couldn't help but ask.
Su Ziyang didn't answer, but simply pointed to the rooms and said, "Take a look for yourself."
Su Ruojin suspiciously pushed open a door, and the scene before her made her pause in surprise.
Torches were burning all around the room, enough to illuminate the entire space.
By the light of the fire, one could see rows of people lying neatly on the floor inside the house, men and women, young and old, all of them adults.
The only thing they had in common was that they all looked unwell.
Some had broken legs, some had broken arms, some had abdominal bleeding, and some had pus oozing from their limbs.
Is this a gathering place for patients?
Why put them here?
Su Ruojin could also tell that these people did not have any infectious diseases, so there was no need to isolate them like this.
"Ah!" Yanluo suddenly exclaimed from next door.
Upon hearing the sound, Su Ruojin hurried to the room where Yan Luo was.
When Su Ruojin opened the door earlier, Yan Luo and the others also opened a door and went inside.
Su Ruojin frowned when she saw the state of Yanluo's room.
The room was filled with pregnant women, but the size of their bellies varied as each woman was at a different stage of pregnancy. When they saw them come in, the women inside looked terrified.
There was even a pregnant woman kneeling down and begging for mercy, pleading with them to let her go.
If she were just pregnant, it wouldn't have made Yanluo scream. What made her scream was the row of shelves in the corner of the room.
Each shelf was filled with black jars arranged in order, and each jar had a number written on it.
Xiao Yanchu and Hu Qing rushed over after hearing Yan Luo's scream.
Seeing that Yanluo was alright, I was relieved.
"Yanluo, what's wrong?" Hu Qing asked hurriedly.
Yan Luo looked at the rows of jars with a grim expression.
Su Ruojin wanted to go and look at the jars, but Yanluo stopped her, saying, "Your Highness, please don't go."
Su Ruojin asked, puzzled, "What's wrong? What's in the jar?"
It couldn't be a Gu worm, could it? As far as she knew, Yamato didn't have Gu magic.
Yan Luo shook her head, her face growing increasingly grim.
Yan Luo's actions only fueled Su Ruojin's curiosity.
Ignoring Yanluo's attempts to stop her, she picked up a jar, glanced at it, and frowned even more deeply.
Seeing this, Hu Qing couldn't resist his curiosity and went forward to pick up a jar and take a look.
Then the can fell to the ground, and Hu Qing turned around and started vomiting violently.
