"Take down the signboard right now! What right do you have to open a clinic?" An angry female voice rang out.
Su Ruojin and the other two turned around and saw three sedan chairs stopped in front of them. Zhao Jiao got out of the sedan chair first and asked questions in a stern voice.
Su Ruojin raised an eyebrow. Was this person here to cause trouble?
Zhao Jiao shook off Zhang Mama, who was trying to help her, and quickly walked up to Su Ruojin. She raised her hand to slap her, but Su Ruojin gripped her arm tightly, preventing her from doing so.
“Madam Lin, I have no idea which article of the Great Chu law states that the wife of a prefect can beat the people at will.”
Zhao Jiao felt as if her arm was being clamped by some kind of iron clamp, unable to move, and cried out in pain, "Su Ruojin, are you crazy? Let me go!"
Lin Wanqing followed, her face full of grievance: "Sister, let's talk this out. Mother is only thinking of you. Please let go of Mother!"
Su Ruojin released her grip, and Zhao Jiao quickly covered her hand, which had been pinched painfully, and took a few steps back to distance herself from Su Ruojin, fearing that she might suddenly go crazy again.
For some reason, Zhao Jiao felt a sense of unfamiliarity when she looked at Su Ruojin in front of her.
The little girl who used to timidly call out "Mother" around her when she was little, and who would hide in a corner and cry if she was scolded, is gone.
Zhao Jiao felt that Su Ruojin's gaze was calm on the surface, but beneath the calm was a storm that could erupt at any moment, making people afraid to look directly into her eyes.
Seeing Zhao Jiao keeping her distance, Su Ruojin clapped her hands and sneered, "My surname is Su, not Lin, so she is not my mother. Also, I don't have a younger sister. Miss Lin, don't call me that. I can't possibly be worthy of your prefectural government."
Su Ruojin didn't know her biological parents' names, but it didn't matter to her; to her, a name was just a label.
She simply didn't believe the Lin family's claim that her biological parents were in Shili Village, and even if they were, she wouldn't acknowledge them.
Others might not know, but she knew exactly what kind of place Shili Village was. If a child in that village was born a boy, that was fine, but if it was a girl, she would be drowned or buried alive if no one bought her. How could she possibly survive in the village until she was taken back by the Lin family?
Zhao Jiao felt the pain in her arm more and more. She was indeed a wild girl, born with brute strength. She pointed at her and scolded, "You ungrateful wretch, all those years our Lin family has raised you."
Su Ruojin glanced at her sideways: "The Lin family raised me? What did the Lin family ever raise me for? Was it those rotten dishes that even dogs wouldn't eat? If it weren't for Grandmother, I would have starved to death in the Lin family when I was five years old!"
In fact, the original owner had indeed starved to death, which gave her, a soul from another world, a chance to be reborn.
Although the shop was at the end of the street, it was still on the main street, and many people still passed by. Zhao Jiao's commotion had already attracted a crowd.
Seeing this, Lin Wanqing quickly helped Zhao Jiao up and gave her a wink: "Mother, we're here to persuade my sister not to open a clinic and harm people."
Zhao Jiao also realized what was happening. She glanced at the growing crowd around her and put on an arrogant expression: "Miss Su, not just anyone can open a clinic. As far as I know, you have never studied medicine. Are you trying to rob and kill someone who doesn't know anything about medicine? I'm here to advise you to stop before things get out of hand."
Oh, so you're already trying to ruin her reputation?
Su Ruojin spoke slowly and deliberately: "Madam Lin, as far as I know, in the Great Chu Kingdom, anyone with a medical license can open a clinic. What right do you have to prevent me from opening a clinic? Is it just because you are the wife of the prefect?"
Zhao Jiao was somewhat incredulous: "You have a medical license?"
"Opening a clinic without a medical license is a serious crime. I have no interest in playing with my own life. As for my medical skills, you should ask Doctor Cai." Su Ruojin glanced at Cai Fanzhou beside her with a half-smile.
