Chapter 54 Falling into the Water (2/2)

Looking into the distance, Yuan Hong was releasing a bamboo dragonfly, while Xiao Bao watched quietly with a slight smile on his face.

Su Ruojin followed Madam Lin to the stall.

When the vendor saw the two approaching, he eagerly came up to solicit business: "Madam, Miss, come and take a look. This is the finest silk thread, just transported from Jiangnan. I dare say that in the entire Yanyang, there is no silk thread with a more complete range of colors than mine."

Madam Lin looked at it and nodded: "This silk thread is indeed very good. Xiao Jin, come and help your grandmother pick some out."

Just as the two were picking through the silk threads, they suddenly heard a child scream: "Help! Someone has fallen into the water! Help!"

Hearing the sound coming from Yuan Hong and the others, Su Ruojin quickly put down the silk thread in her hand and rushed over.

A crowd of people were gathered around the riverbank, pointing and gesturing. Nearby, a servant-like man was using a pole to try and pull people out of the river, while others had already jumped in to rescue them.

A child of about ten years old was struggling in the river, bobbing up and down.

Su Ruojin saw Yuan Hong holding Xiao Bao tightly in his arms in the middle of the crowd, his hair a little disheveled, his eyes red as he looked at the people in the river.

Xiao Bao, like a slightly injured little animal, curled up in Yuan Hong's arms, trembling.

Su Ruojin quickly walked over and took Xiaobao into her arms.

With red eyes, Xiao Bao buried his head on Su Ruojin's shoulder and refused to look up.

Su Ruojin gently patted Xiaobao's back: "Xiaobao, don't be afraid, sister is here."

Perhaps because of Su Ruojin's comforting words, Xiao Bao's body gradually stopped trembling.

"Yuan Hong, what happened?" Su Ruojin asked hurriedly.

“Xiao Bao and I were playing with a bamboo dragonfly when that kid ran over and snatched it from us. He also stepped on and broke Xiao Bao’s lantern. I came out to stop him, and he tried to push me. When he couldn’t push me, he tried to push Xiao Bao. In a moment of panic, I pushed him back, and he fell into the river.”

Yuan Hong has practiced martial arts since he was a child, and his strength is far beyond that of ordinary children. Even without using martial arts techniques, pushing a child into the water would be an easy thing for him.

He always remembered Su Ruojin's words: never attack someone lightly. When the child first attacked him, he didn't fight back and let the child push him.

Unexpectedly, when the child realized he couldn't push him, he turned around and tried to push Xiao Bao instead, which Yuan Hong couldn't tolerate.

You can bully him, but you absolutely cannot bully Xiaobao!

After listening, Su Ruojin understood what was going on.

The child who had fallen into the river was pulled out. Because he was rescued in time, he was not in any danger. However, the river water was freezing cold in winter, and he was shivering all over, and his lips turned purple.

“Let’s go!” Su Ruojin said.

Since others had bullied them first, Yuan Hong had done nothing wrong. Xiao Bao was also frightened, and she thought she should quickly take them back to the clinic to clean them up.

"Stop!" Someone ran over and blocked Su Ruojin's way.

The newcomer had a face full of scars and looked like a fierce demon: "What, you think you can just leave after hurting my young master? There's no such thing as a free lunch."

Su Ruojin coldly stared at the people in front of her: "Which family are you from?"

Luo Biao sneered: "We are the Zhao family of Yanyang, and the prefect is my master's brother-in-law."

The Zhao family?

Isn't this Zhao Jiao's family home?

After Su Ruojin came to the Lin family, Zhao Jiao never introduced her to her family, let alone now that she had kicked Su Ruojin out of the Lin family, and would never mention this former adopted daughter again.

Seeing that Su Ruojin remained silent, Luo Biao assumed she was afraid and became even more smug: "Go, send your two brats over to kneel down and kowtow to my young master to apologize. They can only stop when the young master says so. Also, send a thousand taels of silver to the Zhao residence to apologize. If anything happens to my young master, your two little brats will have to pay with their lives!"
