"Where am I?" The boy's complexion improved after he finished dressing. "What kind of poison have I been poisoned this time?"
The boy looked bewildered, his pale face revealing a hint of fragility.
“This is my residence. You don’t know when you were bewitched, which is why you fainted,” Qu Qingxi patiently answered the boy’s question.
"Gu? What is that?" Upon hearing this, the boy's expression became even more puzzled.
"It's a Gu worm, a type of insect."
"Oh, I see. No wonder. I was just wondering why I felt tired and sleepy while walking down the street, and then I lost consciousness." The boy suddenly realized and smiled sheepishly at Qu Qingxi.
"Then can you tell me your name?" The boy looked at Qu Qingxi expectantly with his eyes wide open.
"My name is Qu Qingxi."
"Hello, my name is Cang Yuan." The boy's eyes lit up as he enthusiastically introduced himself.
“Cangyuan?” Qu Qingxi raised an eyebrow slightly and repeated the sentence.
"Yes, my mother said that Cangyuan is an elegant name for the sea, so she named me Cangyuan in the hope that I could be like the sea and be a person who embraces all rivers." Cangyuan spoke with pride when he mentioned his name.
"A very nice name." Qu Qingxi nodded approvingly, it seemed that Cangyuan's mother was a very learned and cultured woman.
"Then whose young master are you?" Qingdai had sent people to investigate Cangyuan's identity yesterday, but strangely, they still hadn't found anything by this morning.
This matter is somewhat strange. Given He Liufeng's influence in the capital, even a small merchant who came from out of town yesterday afternoon would be recorded so that things could be investigated later. Yet Cangyuan couldn't find anything.
If Cang Yuan were an ordinary person, it might be possible that no one would have been able to find him. However, Cang Yuan's appearance and everything else suggest that he is not from an ordinary family. If someone with such obvious characteristics cannot be found, there is clearly something fishy going on.
Since we can't find out, we might as well just ask him directly; he's right here anyway.
"I am the son of Lan Zhiming, the governor of Jingzhou." Cang Yuan paused for a moment before revealing his identity, but his tone carried a hint of reluctance, as if he was unwilling to mention his identity.
"So you're Lord Lan's son." Qu Qingxi said, turning to look at Qingdai and gesturing for her to check if Cangyuan was lying.
When did you first notice something was wrong with your body?
"What time is it today?" Cang Yuan didn't know how many days he had been unconscious, so he had to ask what time it was today first.
"You collapsed on the street yesterday at noon."
"Yesterday?" Cang Yuan scratched his head, a look of confusion flashing across his face. "Yesterday, I think I felt a little tired after waking up in the morning. I thought it was because I slept too late the night before, so I didn't pay much attention to it."
"Did you encounter any strange people the night before, or have you offended anyone recently?"
What Cang Yuan said fits the characteristics of the Dream-Eating Gu. The person infected by the Gu will not actually notice anything unusual, but will feel a little tired. However, most people will just think that they have not rested well and will not take it to heart. After falling asleep, they will not wake up again and will be tormented to death by nightmares.
"Strange people?" Cang Yuan lowered his head, frowned and thought for a while, then shook his head. "I didn't see any strange people. It's just that last night I took some people to a tavern to buy wine and had a small conflict with a middle-aged man, and that was it."
"A middle-aged man?" Upon hearing this description, Qu Qingxi almost instantly thought of the person Xu Yanyan had mentioned who used Gu poison; that person's voice also sounded like that of a middle-aged man.
"Well, that person's clothes and appearance were not bad, but I don't know why he had a bad temper and was very stingy. Even though the wine shop owner said it would cost ten taels of silver, he said it was too expensive and that this kind of wine was not worth the price at all."
The shop owner argued with him for a bit, then he angrily threw down the wine he had already bought and turned to leave, and I happened to be standing right behind him.
I couldn't dodge in time, and he almost knocked me over. He even said I was blind. My servant couldn't hold back and argued with him for a bit. He then glared at me fiercely and turned to leave.
When Cang Yuan mentioned the man from last night, he frowned, a hint of disgust flashing across his face.
"Is there anything particularly special about his appearance, like a big beard or any moles on his face?" Qu Qingxi pressed, hoping that if she could find out the person's features, she might be able to find out.
"Anything special about him? I don't think so. He just has a very ordinary appearance. I haven't noticed anything else." Cang Yuan thought for a moment, then shook his head, unable to recall anything particularly noticeable.
"Does he have any strange smell, like a bad smell or something that doesn't smell nice?"
"The smell? It seems to be a strange smell, but we were in a tavern and there were a few other people drinking there, so I'm not sure if the strange smell is from him."
Seeing Qu Qingxi's thoughtful expression, Cang Yuan asked curiously, "Why are you asking such detailed questions? Do you know that person?"
"No, that's not it." Qu Qingxi looked at Cang Yuan and smiled gently. "It's just that when I saw you, I felt that we were destined to meet. I wanted to ask you more details and also investigate this matter to avenge you."
Upon hearing Qu Qingxi's words, Cang Yuan's eyes lit up, and his ears turned slightly red. "Really? Thank you."
"No need to be so polite. You've just been cured of the poison, so rest well now. Leave this matter to me, and I'll have someone investigate it thoroughly." Qu Qingxi stood up and looked at Cang Yuan gently.
"Okay, I understand." Cang Yuan nodded. He also felt very tired and was about to lie down when he suddenly remembered something.
"What kind of Gu poison did I get? You're so amazing, you can even cure it." Cang Yuan looked at Qu Qingxi in surprise, clearly not expecting that Qu Qingxi knew this, after all, Qu Qingxi looked to be about the same age as him, yet she was so powerful.
"You have been afflicted with the Dream-Eating Gu. This Gu will make you feel exhausted, then put you to sleep, and cause you to have endless nightmares, and then die in your dreams."
"So vicious?" Cang Yuan's eyes widened instantly as he looked at Qu Qingxi in disbelief, then his gaze fell on the two small porcelain bottles beside him. "Was that Gu worm stored in these?"
"Yes, it's in here." Qu Qingxi pointed to the small bottle on the right.
