Chapter 25 Fainting During Acupuncture

After dinner, He Liufeng still hadn't returned. Qu Qingxi frowned. Today was the day she was supposed to give He Liufeng acupuncture. Knowing that He Liufeng was busy, she had already postponed the time to the evening. Why hadn't he returned yet?

"Qingdai, go and ask why the prince hasn't returned yet." It doesn't matter how long I wait, but He Liufeng's poison can't wait. He needs to be treated with acupuncture on time. He Liufeng knows this, so why hasn't he returned yet?

Qingdai was fiddling with the set of jewelry that Qu Qingxi had bought for her last time when she suddenly heard the princess mention the prince. A sudden idea flashed in Qingdai's mind.

A prince? Jewelry?

Qingdai slightly widened her eyes. So, the reason why the prince was unhappy that night was that the princess went out shopping and didn't buy him anything?

No wonder, no wonder the prince suddenly disliked me. It turns out he was jealous that the princess bought me things but didn't buy anything for the prince.

Having found the reason, and recalling how the prince had been treating her with disdain these past two days, Qingdai smiled, knowing she knew what to do.

"Qingdai?" Qu Qingxi finished speaking, but saw Qingdai sitting there motionless with a slightly eerie smile on her face. Qu Qingxi called out again in confusion.

"Huh? Your Highness, what did you just say? I didn't hear you." Qingdai suddenly came to her senses and glanced at Qu Qingxi awkwardly.

"I just said, go and ask when the Prince will be back. He has important business to attend to today," Qu Qingxi said helplessly, repeating herself.

"Important matter? Ah, I understand, I'll go ask right away." Qingdai was momentarily confused, but then realized what the important matter was. She quickly closed the jewelry box, turned around, and left.

But Qingdai never returned, and Qu Qingxi lost her sleepiness and sat in her room waiting.

It was almost dawn when He Liufeng finally returned with his men, looking travel-worn.

He Liufeng originally intended to go directly to the study, but his feet involuntarily led him to Qu Qingxi's courtyard. When he saw the light on in Qu Qingxi's room, he knew that Qu Qingxi had not slept all night and had been waiting for him.

Hearing the deliberately heavy footsteps in the courtyard, Qu Qingxi only slightly raised her head. As a doctor, she really hated it when her patients didn't listen to her.

When He Liufeng pushed the door open and came in, he saw that Qu Qingxi's face was not good. He Liufeng sincerely apologized, "I'm sorry, it was my fault today."

"Take off your clothes and sit down," Qu Qingxi said calmly, her voice unreadable.

Although Qu Qingxi spoke in a calm tone and didn't say anything, He Liufeng knew that Qu Qingxi was already angry.

"Am I here today?" He Liufeng was about to take off his clothes when he suddenly remembered that he was in Qu Qingxi's room.

Qu Qingxi didn't say anything, but just glanced at He Liufeng. He Liufeng immediately understood, obediently took off his clothes, leaving only a pair of pants, and sat on the bed.

This was the first time He Liufeng had sat on Qu Qingxi's bed since they got married. There was a faint fragrance in the room, and the fragrance was stronger on the side of the bed. He Liufeng glanced at it casually and quickly noticed a sachet hanging on the headboard. It was clear that the fragrance was coming from the sachet.

As He Liufeng was wondering what kind of flower petals were inside the sachet, a sharp pain suddenly shot through his back. He Liufeng closed his eyes slightly as the pain in his back intensified.

It wasn't that Qu Qingxi intentionally hurt He Liufeng, but rather that the poison in He Liufeng's body was extremely potent, and to suppress it, one had to endure such pain.

Knowing that He Liufeng was in pain, Qu Qingxi did not dare to relax and quickly inserted the silver needle. She noticed the cold sweat on He Liufeng's forehead and his tense jawline.

Qu Qingxi turned around, found a clean handkerchief next to her, folded it, and handed it to He Liufeng's mouth.

"Open your mouth and bite it."

He Liufeng looked up at Qu Qingxi and saw a hint of worry in her eyes. He then forced a smile and, without any hesitation, bit the handkerchief that Qu Qingxi offered him.

Not only was her bed fragrant, but so were her handkerchiefs. He Liufeng had never smelled such a faint fragrance before, nor could he identify what it was.

The dense array of silver needles on his back felt like sharp swords, bringing excruciating pain. It was as if two streams of true energy were surging wildly within his body, colliding with his internal organs as if trying to tear them apart. Attacked from both inside and out, He Liufeng felt extremely uncomfortable. His hands clenched tightly, the veins on his arms bulged, and cold sweat dripped rapidly down his face.

However, He Liufeng had no strength to wipe it away; all his strength was used to resist the pain in his body, and he couldn't care less about the sweat.

Seeing He Liufeng's pained expression, Qu Qingxi sighed inwardly, turned around and found a soft cloth, gently wiped the sweat from He Liufeng's head, and slowly spoke, trying to divert He Liufeng's attention.

"Why are you back so late today?" Qu Qingxi's voice was soft and warm.

He Liufeng lowered his head, and the moment he heard Qu Qingxi's voice, he felt as if the pain in his body had lessened considerably. He spoke in a hoarse voice.

"The national treasury was robbed, and the Phoenix Palace was also robbed. My imperial brother ordered me to investigate this matter. It is of great importance, and I dare not take it lightly. I have no time to come back."

The theft of the national treasury was supposed to be a secret, but He Liufeng didn't hide anything and told Qu Qingxi everything.

"You've been investigating for almost a day and a night. Have you found any clues?" Qu Qingxi was slightly taken aback when He Liufeng revealed everything to her. It felt as if something had gently touched her heart, but it quickly disappeared.

ā€œI’m in charge of investigating the national treasury. Almost half of the things in the treasury are gone, and there are no traces left at the scene. We have no clue at the moment, so we can only lock all the people guarding the national treasury in the dungeon.ā€

Of course, no clues were left behind; Qu Qingxi was very cautious in her actions.

Qu Qingxi asked a few other questions intermittently, mainly wanting to talk to He Liufeng and tell him to stay alert.

About half an hour later, Qu Qingxi stood up and quickly took out the silver needles.

Without the silver needles, He Liufeng felt instantly relieved, and the pain in his body disappeared in an instant, as if the previous excruciating pain was just an illusion.

"Qingxi." He Liufeng suddenly called out Qu Qingxi's name.

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Qu Qingxi, who was sitting opposite He Liufeng, was about to take his pulse when she looked up at him. She could tell that He Liufeng was in a bad mood.

Unexpectedly, He Liufeng collapsed onto Qu Qingxi and fainted, his head resting on Qu Qingxi's shoulder, losing consciousness.

Qu Qingxi paused on He Liufeng's wrist, slightly at a loss. She wanted to ask someone to take He Liufeng back to his courtyard, but then remembered that he had just received acupuncture and should not be exposed to the wind. So she stood up and helped He Liufeng lie down on her bed.
