"Yier..."
"Yier..."
Nan Yi was talking to Yiren in the outer room when Yinzhen called out anxiously from the inner room. The two were startled, and Nan Yi turned around and walked into the inner room.
As soon as she lifted the curtain, she was pulled into someone's arms and held tightly.
Seeing this, Yiren, who was following behind her master, chuckled to herself and quickly left the room.
"Hiss—my injury, be gentle." Nan Yi frowned, still wondering, the Fourth Master had never been this clingy before.
Perhaps he suddenly realized that she was very important to him.
That shouldn't be the case. This guy respects the primary consort, values the fertile secondary consort Li, has his heart set on secondary consort Nian, and also favors Princess Li Jia. It shouldn't be her turn.
"Where have you been? Why aren't you lying in bed?" Yinzhen asked in a deep voice.
When he woke up and didn't see her, he thought the person he saw before going to sleep was just a dream, which made him very anxious.
Nan Yi: "I can go. I'll just chat with the girl in the outer room. I've been lying in bed these past few days since I got back. My body parts are about to break down."
She glanced at the ground, then pulled Yinzhen inside. "Your Highness, please put on your shoes first. Would you like to stay for dinner? Granny Zhao has prepared some new dishes."
"You're the one who did this, aren't you? I've heard that Zhao Mama is just an ordinary cook, her skills are only slightly better than the average nanny. I thought you'd dug up a treasure somewhere, but it turns out the treasure belongs to someone else."
Nan Yi chuckled lightly, "It's best for me to keep this to myself, but don't tell anyone."
She's a foodie. The dishes Zhao Mama made were to her liking, but they were a bit bland. She prefers strong flavors and loves spicy food. If she wants something delicious, she has to personally give her some pointers.
She only talked, but luckily Zhao Mama was quick to understand and could cook any dish immediately, so she didn't have to put in much effort. If she had to cook it herself, she would never have been able to do it.
Yinzhen rolled his eyes at her. "I'm not that stupid."
The two of them went to the outer room hand in hand. Yiren brought in water, and after the Fourth Master washed up briefly, the two of them sat on the couch. A small table was placed in front of them, and the meal was already set out.
Nan Yi looked at the food and said, "Hey, you didn't bring me roast duck?"
"Ugh~" Nan Yi rubbed her forehead, glaring angrily at the perpetrator, "Why did you hit me?"
"I've already consulted the imperial physician. You can't eat that stuff. Behave yourself." Yinzhen picked up his chopsticks and started eating. He had only had some tea and snacks that morning, and his stomach was already growling with hunger.
Halfway through the meal, Yinzhen remembered his father's instructions: "In a few days, I will go to the palace with you to pay my respects. Mother said she wants to see you."
Nan Yi's head tightened, and she exclaimed, "She's summoning me to the palace again. What trick has she come up with to torment me this time?"
She was truly afraid of Consort De, but she couldn't confront her like she did with the Fourth Prince. Consort De was the Emperor's favorite concubine, and the slightest mistake would be met with accusations of insubordination, disobedience, and filial impiety.
"Shut up!" Yinzhen's face turned cold. "My mother is of noble status. It's not worth arguing with you. You're just being petty and treacherous."
"Don't you feel guilty saying that?" Nan Yi muttered angrily.
"Smash!" Yinzhen slammed his chopsticks on the table, his eyes flashing with anger as he glared at Nan Yi. Don't think he didn't hear him; Tong Shi's mouth was getting sharper and sharper.
He tolerated their disregard for him and their constant tantrums, but he would never tolerate their disrespect for his mother. It was outrageous!
The hairs on her neck stood on end. Nan Yi shrank back. The Fourth Master hadn't yet said how he would pursue the matter of her escape, so she decided to keep a low profile for the time being to plan for the future.
Braving the chill, she placed a piece of lotus root in Yinzhen's bowl, grinned at him with a fawning smile, her almond-shaped eyes narrowing into slits, "I understand, I will definitely prepare well, and I will not fight back or talk back when I am hit or scolded. Your Highness, what gift do you think I should bring to the palace? Or how about this, I know a beauty and health recipe, I can present it to Mother, and I guarantee it will keep Her Majesty forever young..."
The more Yinzhen listened, the angrier he became, to the point of spitting blood. His face darkened, and he kicked over the table in front of him with a bang. The Fourth Prince then turned and left.
Qingyun and Yiren, who were guarding outside the door, were startled. The two rushed in and exclaimed, "Master, everything's alright! What happened this time?"
Nan Yi was still holding chopsticks in her hand, looking dazed. Hearing Qingyun's voice, she threw down the chopsticks in dejection, got up listlessly, and asked the maid to clean up the broken bowls and plates on the ground.
"Master?" Yiren looked at her with concern.
Nan waved his hand, "It's nothing, I just flattered the wrong person."
She took a breath and stretched, "Oh, girl, quick, my back." She groaned, raising her arms.
"What's wrong, mistress?" Two maids stepped forward to help her up.
"I think I'm having a seizure. Help me to bed." Nan Yi instructed.
The maidservant dared not delay and helped her into the room to lie down. Her mistress had an injury on her side, and she was afraid that she might accidentally tear open the wound that had finally healed.
Yiren stamped her foot and ordered her maid to fetch the imperial physician.
“No need,” Nan Yi said, pulling her back. “It’s the other side, just massage it for me.”
Qingyun massaged her, and Yiren, worried that her mistress hadn't eaten enough, brought her some soup from the kitchen. Nan Yi drank it, chatted with the two maids for a while, and then fell asleep again.
Yiren helped Qingyun put down the curtains. Qingyun asked, "Why do I feel like Master is particularly sleepy?"
"Yes, Granny Qiu added a calming medicine to the nourishing soup. Master is restless, which is not good for his recovery. He should get more sleep," Yiren explained.
Qingyun sighed softly and walked out with Yiren, muttering anxiously, "Now that we've angered Master, they'll be laughing at him again."
Yi Ren raised an eyebrow, thinking to herself, "Not necessarily."
This girl is clever and resourceful; she comes up with ideas as soon as she thinks of them. She told Qingyun to go eat, while she ran to the old women guarding the gate and told them to close the gate and not open it for anyone.
The old women were completely confused, but Yiren was the mistress's favorite and their biggest source of income, so they naturally obeyed.
For several days in a row, the gates of Wanyue Pavilion remained tightly closed.
In the study in the front yard, Su Peisheng, bracing for his master's wrath, knelt down with a food box in hand, saying, "Master, this servant has not completed the task."
Yinzhen paused, the ink dripping from the tip onto the paper, blurring the writing. He slowly put down the pen, glanced at Su Peisheng, and said indifferently, "Send this to Consort Li and tell her that I will have dinner at her place tonight."
In Fangfei Courtyard, Madam Li received the news and directed her servants to run around in a flurry of activity. She also sent someone to the main kitchen to deliver a message. For some reason, Madam Li's personal maid and Madam Nian's head maid, Xiangxiu, started arguing.
Xiangxiu, who always relied on the power of the Nian family, blurted out a disrespectful remark to the Li family. The Li family couldn't hold back and rushed to Weifang Courtyard to question her.
The two concubines were arguing, and the servants couldn't stop them, so they had to go and summon the primary consort, Lady Nara. When Lady Nara arrived, Lady Nian was already unwell.
Chaos erupted in Weifang Courtyard, and Li, who had caused the trouble, also cried out in pain, forcing the imperial physician to run back and forth between the two places.
"My lord, something terrible has happened. Consort Nian has miscarried," said Yiren as she entered the room.
Nan paused for a moment, "Go..." She was about to say she would go visit, but then stopped herself. Why should she go visit Nian Shi? The two of them had never gotten along.
After Nian's miscarriage, seeing her might make him think all sorts of things.
