Chapter 166 Two Knives

The enemy only wanted the prince's life. The men in black surrounded him, and Nan Yi and two guards did their best to protect the Fourth Prince in the middle.

In less than a quarter of an hour, one of the two guards was killed and the other wounded. Nan Yi's sword dance was so dense that it was impenetrable, but the number of men in black who surged up only increased.

"Yi'er, be careful!" Yinzhen suddenly shouted, reminding Nan Yi behind him.

Nan Yi was unable to break free and dodge in time. She was stabbed in the side and groaned. She swung her sword back and struck the assassin who had attacked from behind. The assassin was instantly killed.

Her body swayed as she stood up. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a cold light behind Fourth Master. Startled, she acted faster than she thought, leaping forward and tackling Fourth Master to the ground.

"Hmm~"

A cold, sharp blade pierced her back, and excruciating pain overwhelmed her entire body. Her vision went black, but she gritted her teeth and tried to get up.

"Yier~" Yinzhen's eyes reddened with anxiety, his heart filled with horror. He deflected the man's sword with a slash and asked in a trembling voice, "How are you?"

"It's nothing." She bit her tongue hard, stretched out two fingers, broke the sword behind her, and with a frenzied expression, unleashed a powerful move that injured three people in succession. She kicked away the black-clad men blocking her way and dragged Yinzhen away.

Her body grew colder and colder, probably from excessive blood loss. She dared not stop and ran for her life, holding her breath. She didn't know how long she ran, but her legs became weaker and weaker, her vision blurred, she saw double, the world turned upside down, and she had no strength left.

"Yi'er, that's enough, stop." Yinzhen held her limp body in his arms, knelt on the ground, and touched the wounds on her body. His voice trembled. "Stop for a while, let me bandage your wounds first."

She still had a broken sword on her back, which also needed to be removed.

Having run this far, the assassins shouldn't be chasing after him, Yinzhen thought, his hands haphazardly tearing at the lining fabric.

He remembered that she was stabbed twice, once in the waist and once in the back, both times for him. She protected him without hesitation, risking her life for him. He thought that this memory would be etched in his mind for the rest of his life, and he would never forget it.

Yinzhen murmured soothingly, "Yi'er, bear with it. I'll help you pull the knife out first. It will hurt, but don't be afraid, it will be over soon."

Nan Yi's consciousness blurred, and only one thought remained in his mind: pain, so much pain. The knife had pierced through his back, and he didn't know if he could survive.

Heaven has been kind and simply took her away, letting her return to her original world, that free and unrestrained world, where she still had to care for her adoptive parents until their deaths.

The Qing Dynasty was such a mess; she didn't want to stay a minute longer. Muttering incoherently, she said, "Bastard, I don't want to meet you in my next life."

"Ouch~ That hurts." The sharp pain in her back brought her back to her senses, and she glared angrily at the dark figure beside her. "You bastard, what do you want?"

"Pull the knife out, Yi'er, just bear with it." Yinzhen's attention was entirely focused on the wound on her back, and he didn't notice what she was cursing.

"Don't pull it out, it hurts so much!" Nan Yi shoved the person next to him.

Yinzhen held her down tightly, his brows furrowed, his tone so gentle it was hardly a threat, "Be good, if you don't pull it out, the injury will worsen. Listen to me, don't move."

"You told me not to move, but you insisted on moving," Nan Yi weakly cried out. "I can't do it anymore. Don't waste your energy. Just run away and don't worry about me."

Her tone was extremely dejected. Given her injuries, she was afraid she would die within half an hour. She was now a burden, with pursuers behind them. Even with Fourth Master carrying her, they might not be able to escape.

"What nonsense are you talking about? I would never abandon you." Yinzhen said angrily. If he was destined to die here, then it was fate, and fate could not be defied.

He never imagined abandoning Nan Yi and fleeing alone.

While she was rambling on, he suddenly reached out and pulled out the broken knife, causing Nan Yi to let out a low cry. Yinzhen quickly used his other hand to stop the bleeding from the wound.

Neither of them had any medicine, so for now they could only bandage their wounds briefly before finding a place to stay.

Yinzhen bandaged her wound, carried her on his back, and walked forward, stumbling along.

Nan was half-conscious and half-asleep. When she opened her eyes again, she was curled up in bed, and the blankets had a faint musty smell.

She struggled to get out of bed, and as soon as she lifted the blanket, she shivered violently, revealing her bare arms.

Her chest and waist were wrapped in thick strips of cloth, not like a doctor's work. It looked really bad. Damn it, at least leave her a robe! In this state, she can't get out of bed to go to the bathroom at all.

I'm in a real hurry.

Nan Yi was considering whether to call for help when the door was pushed open from the outside, and Yinzhen returned carrying a set of women's clothes.

"Yi'er, you're awake." His voice was full of joy. He had been really scared yesterday, afraid that something might have happened to her.

In the middle of the night, he carried her to the inn. She was covered in blood and barely breathing. Even now, thinking about it, he still feels a chill.

"Stop talking nonsense and come help me up." Nan Yi called out anxiously, her face contorted. If he didn't hurry, she wouldn't be able to hold it in and would relieve herself right there.

"What's wrong? Does your wound hurt?" Yinzhen put down what he was holding and rushed to the bedside like a gust of wind.

"Clean room, carry me to the clean room."

Yinzhen was stunned for a moment, his face slightly red. Seeing her impatient, he twitched his lips, wrapped her in a quilt, and carried her to the washroom at the back of the room.

She had to wash up and change clothes, with someone doing everything for her, making her a complete novice when it came to clumsy hands.

Back in bed, Nan glanced around the room before finally having a chance to ask, "Where is this?"

“In a nearby town,” Yinzhen said simply.

"The Stone City incident...?"

"A conspiracy. Take good care of your injuries. I'll feed you something; you must be hungry." He didn't want to say more. The copper mine was nothing more than a conspiracy targeting them.

From the moment those dozens of assassins in black tried to kill him, he realized that this was a premeditated assassination attempt.

At different times, he would offer himself up.

Knowing that it would be difficult to act in the capital, the people behind it released bait to lure them out.

Ironically, they actually fell for it.

Nan Yi probably guessed it too, so she didn't ask any more questions. This matter was quite embarrassing, especially for the royal family.

Fortunately, Thirteen left; otherwise, she might have perished here. After all, the other side had arranged enough manpower, while Nan Yi was the only one. She could protect one Fourth Master, but she might not have the spare strength to protect Thirteen.

It seems like she's been having a run of bad luck lately. She just dealt with Yuan Qingyi, and now she's caught up in this Fourth Master thing. Last time she escaped unscathed, and someone else took the blame for her, but this time it's her turn to suffer for someone else.

Fortune changes like the wheel of fortune.

She encountered two assassination attempts, and then the Fourth Master took over. What happened to the Fourth Master's household? It's been a year of bad luck for them.

"I'll pray to the Bodhisattva another day and burn more incense to ask her to protect me. I don't want to get hurt again. Half of the year is spent being sick. God really doesn't like me."

"Hmm, I'll go with you another day, and we'll add some money for incense and pray for a blessing for you to wear."

Yinzhen thought, "I'll also pray to Guanyin for a child. This time, no villains are causing trouble, so I should be able to have a child soon."

He put the food into a bowl, sat down on the edge of the bed, and fed the person.
